The Sunday Post #203

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Day 4,271 of quarantine. Or something like that.
  • The Husband was off on Friday so I took the day off as well and we made it a three day weekend. Sounds odd when we both work from home and we didn't really leave the house... but it was still a good day. :)
  • I sat down yesterday and worked out our menus for the next week. Since we eat every single meal, every day at home ( I have never spent so much time in the kitchen) I like having a visual. Makes me feel organized and in control (because that's in such short supply these days).
  • My new quarantine hobby is apparently shopping online. Amazon, Bath & Body Works, Etsy... I'm an equal opportunity spender. I should probably try to rein this in. But it really is providing hours of entertainment.
  • My reading continues to be so slow that it's practically at a stand-still. I really am enjoying what I'm reading but I can only seem to read a couple pages at a time. My attention span is shot.
  • This week's 80's music fix is Don't Leave Me This Way by The Communards. I may have shared this one before but that's fine because it's that awesome. :) It's a remake but this is my favorite version.

  1. Doesn't sound odd at all, even though you're spending most days together and can't go far it's still nice to have a day off from working and a chance to spend some time doing as you please. Love the meal planning, as well. I've heard it's also meant to be a great way to ensure you use everything you have at home. I probably should start doing that but as I'm exercising far less my appetite has gone right down. I'm not even really snacking anymore. And you're not alone, I've done so much online shopping lately, it really does give hours of entertainment, it's like window shopping but in the comfort of your pyjamas.

    1. I'm envious of your lack of appetite! I mean, I know you say it's from lack of exercise but still... I wish I had that issue. LOL I've been eating from stress, eating from boredom, it's not good. Ha! I should probably try to rein in the shopping this week. I went a little crazy the past few weeks!

  2. My husband originally had a vacation day scheduled for Friday since we were supposed to go away for the weekend, but he cancelled it. Honestly, he's doing so little work at home, he might as well use some of his many vacation days, or his department is going to have problems when they all go back to work and still have to use weeks of vacation time before the end of the year. I've been wanting to make a meal schedule, too, since I am so loathe for us to be wasting any food these days. Part of me has been wanting to do some online shopping and support smaller businesses, but another part of me just wants to save money since everything is so uncertain! I did give in and buy bookish tee shirts for my sister and myself!

    1. My husband is actually retiring at the end of April (it's been planned for 6 months or so) and he just figured that he has enough PTO to take off the rest of the month. I don't think he'll do it, he'll just take the pay-out, but I know it's tempting. LOL

  3. I know the disco version of that song. It's pretty close to the original. I recognized it before they even started singing. I have been shopping a bit too. I ordered a coat, because of the sales, but it was too slim fitting. It fit (and was really nice), but I would not be able to wear a sweater under it. So, back it went. I am hoping the shirts I ordered work out better, though, I am not sure if they will ever ship. The slippers were great though .

    1. Yep, I think it was Thelma Houston that did it back in the disco era. I love both versions. That's a bummer about the coat. Are you exchanging for a different size or just returning? I hope the shirts work out better... whenever they arrive.

  5. I'm having issues reading, too! I think it's because I am so exhausted from working all the time, though. Enjoy your new books, and SHOPPING! haha

    1. I'm actually finding I'm working more at home than I did at the office. Fewer distractions means I'm actually getting more done.

  6. From Blood and Ash sounds and looks amazing! I was so surprised when that released. Need to get to it soon... You know, when I'm able to read a freaking book again. :)

I don't think time off at home is weird. We have two bank holidays over Easter so we have a four day weekend to spend at home in the garden doing a lot of nothing.
I'm not losing my mind. Nope. Not even a little bit. *eye-twitches*

Here's to another week of it! :)

  7. Thanks for The Communards Tanya! And yes I am also going overboard with online shopping! The only thing that I used to ordre online aside amazon books and the occasional candles was food and now that's so needed, we can't do it anymore! PS I also got From Blood and Ash! Stay safe my friend!

  8. Yes, online shopping has become somewhat of an obsession for me as well. Even if I'm not actually buying anything, I'm constantly thinking about it. That's great that you and your hubby both took off from work on Friday. My company's CEO was actually talking about that at our meeting on Friday - that a day off now and then is still just as important even though we're all at home.

    1. It's great that your CEO recognizes - and is encouraging - that time off. My husband and I are both finding that we're actually working longer at home - and sitting in front of the computer longer - because there are no distractions like at the office. I think that alone makes time off more necessary.

  11. I love the idea of writing out your menu. I really struggled with keeping my meals organized this week, so I may try to do that.

I definitely relate to the online shopping. This quarantine coupled with us moving into a new house only a month ago means I don't even know what is inside all the packages that I'm getting lol!

    1. Oh gosh, double whammy for you, Ethan! Quarantined *and* buying all the new house stuff. Yeah, I imagine you're doing a lot of shopping. :)

I like having the menu written out and posted. We know what we're having at a glance and it keeps me on track as far as using what we have.

  12. Every day seems similar so they are running together. I've done the necessary stuff but am unmotivated to tackle projects most days. I do plan out menus for the next 5 days after looking at the weather. I like to grill when it's nice and use the oven if it's colder. Breakfast is usually the standard things, then I tend to make one bigger meal a day and then the other meal is leftovers. It works out pretty well. Today is all leftovers but I did make mini cheesecakes for this week.

I hope you enjoyed your day off. My daughter didn't have school for Friday either. We tend to do more sleeping and/or reading. Have a healthy, safe week! Happy Easter!

    1. I agree, Anne. With every day feeling like the one before, and little change, it's hard to get motivated. It helps that I'm working from home so that gives my days plenty of structure. Grilling out has been great... we've done that several times, too. The mini cheesecakes sound wonderful!

  13. I often use my vacation days just to hang out at home so taking a day off with your husband sounds like a great thing to do. I feel like I have cooked a million meals lately. We have another person in the house since the kid had to come home from college and we are eating every meal at home. My husband and daughter have food allergies which make things even more interesting. I think everyone in the house is bored with the meals I am making at this point. I hope you have a great week and stay safe!

    1. Oh yeah, I feel like I practically live in the kitchen these days, Carole. LOL At least I don't have the added challenge of working around food allergies like you do.

  14. I feel like I've never cooked so much either, and we eat in quite a bit. I do feel like so much of my energy and time is spent on food in some way or another right now, lol! I was able to dig into a book yesterday and read it straight through. Also, my re-read is really, really good! My focus is coming back! Oh, a new Mia Sheridan! I'll have to look that up. :)

    1. We get take-out of Friday nights to take to my mom's for our driveway picnics but otherwise it's breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home every single day. Gah! This whole cooking every day thing is a shock to my system. LOL I'm so glad you're having some great reads, Rachel!

  15. Great music pick -- I love that song!

Having 3 of at home, eating 3 meals a day feels like all we do is eat. LOL. Maybe that's because of the whole cooking thing. We haven't eaten out in a couple of months. How was Risky Play? I haven't read a book of hers in a while. I got so irritated with that Arizona bachelors series that I haven't picked one up since I finished that second book.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Right? It's like every day is worked around the three meals. LOL

Risky Play was okay. I liked it but didn't love it. It felt kind of surface-level, if you know what I mean. I liked the main characters, but I wouldn't say I really felt strongly for them, y'know?

  16. Good for you guys for having a long weekend! It is the little things that keep us going I think. :)

I should try online shopping. I think not having to go to the grocery store (or at least, not as much) would be nice given that it's kinda nerve wracking to go now!

  19. I haven't read too many books lately. I like that you plan out meals, it's less stressful and I agree with you I'm shopping a lot lately. I'm in New York, and it's very bad out here. Stores have been out of stock for so long. Stay safe.

  23. I am glad you and your husband were able to take a day off and enjoy a three day weekend. Doesn't matter that you work from home--it's extra time for yourselves where you don't have to worry about work, right? I am having trouble sticking with a book too. It's hard to focus. I hope you enjoy your current reads and new books! Have a good week and stay safe and well.
