The Sunday Post #204

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Things are very much the same since the self-isolation/quarantine/call it what you want continues. I'm about to start week six of WFH. I changed my set-up in the home office and it's working much better for me. Little victories.
  • The Husband's retirement gets closer and closer. April 30th is his last day. They actually called him this week to ask if he'd be interested in extending another month. His answer was a resounding "thanks but no thanks."
  • My orders from my recent shopping spree have started rolling in. Kitchen knives, an egg bite maker (similar to the sous vide eggs at Starbucks), some hand soap from Bath & Body Works... and the list goes on. One of my favorite finds is this over the sink rack/drainer that rolls up. It can also be used as a trivet.
  • This week's 80's music fix is Der Kommissar. Falco (the Rock Me Amadeus guy) did it first in 1982 but I always preferred this version by After the Fire (1983).
WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:
WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

READING:
Finally decided to give Kristen Ashley a try. Seeing snippets and quotes and excerpts from her books over the years gave me the feeling that her writing style probably wasn't for me, but I'm going to give one a try and see what I think.

LISTENING:

PHYSICAL BOOKS:

Readers have been asking Katie for years for print copies of all her short stories and novellas. For the longest time she said it was in the hands of her publishers but she apparently decided to just do it herself. I think I had my copy ordered about two minutes after her announcement. :) It includes short stories and novellas that she's released over the years (usually as bonus content for pre-orders) for the Pushing the Limits series, the Thunder Road series, and even a prequel novella for Only a Breath Apart. Love it!

KINDLE BOOKS:

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. I think we're all beginning to notice more of the same in our updates. As no one is going anywhere it gets a bit repetitive. I spend my days in my spare room/home office and then move to the living room and kitchen for the evening and then repeat that daily. Glad the purchases are rolling in though. They're useful purchases at least which is always good. And I saw Katie McGarry had released all the novellas as a physical copy which is always so satisfying for anyone who collects the physical copies of a series to finally have the full collection.

    1. I've seen these funny memes about traveling from room to room in the house. And they're so true. LOL Katie McGarry is one of those few authors where I like to have physical copies of her books. And it's always needled me that I couldn't add the novellas to my shelf. So this one made me really happy. :)

  2. Those are some snazzy little things you got there. Yum, egg bites! Let me know how the Katie McG novella collection is. I am most interested in the Thunder Road novellas. I wish we had gotten more books in that series.

    1. Me too, Sam. I loved that series and didn't want it to end.

  3. Good luck with the Kristen Ashley! It took me quite a while to get used to her writing style... It bugged me a lot and still does sometimes but I love her Chaos boys (grown ass men) so much that I can let it go, lol.

I'm waiting on a whole load on online shopping to arrive too. Most of my packages seem scheduled to arrive on Wednesday so that'll be fun. :)

    1. I hope I'll feel the same, Nicci. The dialogue is taking some getting used to. She seem to write it in a way that just seems choppy to me. Or something. When I'm hearing it in my head it just sounds clunky... like I can't imagine the guys really talking like that. I don't know, I'm not explaining this well. LOL

  4. Ha! Yes, I would also like to cancel my 2020 3 month trial please!

Yeah we start week 6 this week as well and I'm just sick of it. I'm trying to stay positive, since I know I'll be in this situation for at least a few more weeks, if not longer.

I had to laugh that they asked your husband if he wanted to stay on. In this mess? No thanks, I think I'll start my retirement on schedule, thanks. Early would be OK too! Lol!

Stay safe and have a great week!

    1. Same here, Berls. I keep telling myself this is temporary. And being asked to just stay home is not exactly cruel and unusual punishment (LOL), but I'm still so ready for it to be over.

  5. I'm debating buying some more hand soaps from B&BW - I'm really waiting for free shipping!

My dad is potentially retiring this year, and now that he's "working from home," we keep asking him if he'll just do it now - so far, no!

    1. I should have waited for free shipping but I got such a deal on the soaps (they were 4 for $20, I think) that it was easy to justify the shipping charge. :)

  6. Ooooh retiring in just a few weeks! That's good for him Tanya! I would too if I could LOL. Have a wonderful week even if we too are on our sixth week of quarantine and in a routine!

  7. It's fun getting shipments in the mail. Something to look forward to right now. Your kitchen looks nice! I think I'd say "no thanks" too if I was scheduled to retire. It's years away for me, but I can't wait!

Ooooh, I want Want You to Want Me!!! Hope you enjoy Kristen Ashley. Even though Own the Wind is book one in the Chaos series Motorcycle Man is more the first book to me. I love both stories, but KA isn't for everyone. Crossing my fingers you like her. :)

    1. I wish that was my kitchen, Rachel! That was just the pic from the sale page for the sink rack on Amazon. :)

The jury is still out on the Kristen Ashley book. I'm liking the story well enough but she seems to have a very distinctive writing style and I can't decide if I'm gelling with it or not.

  8. I have both the books you are currently reading but have yet to read them. Sometime. Yes some things are more the same and some are different. I had a better week for getting some things done.

Stay safe and have a great week! Happy reading!

  9. Glad to hear you got a better set up in the office! Hope it alleviates the pain you were dealing with. Congrats to the hubs on his upcoming retirement! I have only read one Kristen Ashley series. I really enjoyed the first book, but then each of the guys in the other 2 books seemed to use the exact same unique style of speech and their personalities were all very similar. If I had read them far apart it probably wouldn't have bothered me at all. But, it's had me scared to pick up more of her books. My best friend loves her, though. I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on Own the Wind.

    1. It actually has, Alison. Instead of switching back and forth between computers and chairs, I now have both computers (personal and work) side by side on one desk and I'm in my same comfy chair all day. Such a difference.

I totally get what you mean about the unique style of speech used by KA's characters. I'm not totally gelling with it and it feels kind of clunky to me. But I'm enjoying the actual story so I guess I'll see how it goes.

    2. Glad it's helping!!! And good to hear that you're enjoying the story despite the style of speech. Oh, but I just remembered. I really enjoyed The Will by her, but it's been quite a while since I've read it, and for some reason never finished the series. But, that doesn't mean anything. I always have a thousand series going at once.

    3. Well, unfortunately I decided to DNF Own the Wind last night. Or at least set it aside for now. I made it to page 100 and realized that I simply didn't care what happened. Not a good sign. LOL

  13. Congratulations to your husband on his upcoming retirement! I am glad you were able to work out a better set up for your home office. Mine isn't ideal. I might have my husband bring my desk chair down from upstairs. He's stationed upstairs working from home, and I get to be downstairs. It's not as comfy work space wise though. I hope you are enjoying your reading! You'd think I'd have more time to read with everything going on, but I find I have less time. It's crazy. I hope you have a good week. Stay safe and well.

    1. Thanks Wendy. :) His plan had been to shift from full-time work to part-time volunteering with the Navy Marine Corp Relief Society. But that can't happen right now so I'm not sure how he's going to spend his time after the 30th. It'll be an adjustment for sure. I hope the change in chairs works for you... it sure helped me. And my back! LOL I'm finding the same thing... instead of more time to read now, it seems I have less!

  14. I absolutely ADORE Kristen Ashley, however, her style isn't for everyone. You have to like strong alpha males especially. Which I do so I love them. And I do love that she writes more mature age characters most of the time. So I hope you are enjoying those books. I really like Own The Wind.

    1. Thanks Renee! I have no issue with uber alphas (usually) but I think it's how KA writes her dialogue that I'm not 100% gelling with. I am enjoying the story... so hopefully I'll get used to the speech patterns.

That's awesome your husband is so close to retirement, but whew, what a weird time to be doing it! LOL I'd still be excited though.
And there are definitely books I love that I really need to try and see if they're available in print.

  17. Yes, please cancel 2020. isn't it funny that we were just hoping to get through 2019 last year. How naive we all were lol

I'm trying to slow my roll with the online ordering. I was way out of control and probably spent more staying at home than if I went out lol

  19. Congratulations to your husband on his almost retirement! I don't want to wish the years away but how I long to be free from the workplace. I do like your sink drainer. 1. He does this week! LOL But up till now he's been super busy so even though he's been WFH for well over a month now, it's kind of been busy as usual for him. But with just 3 days left to work... he's definitely feeling the clock ticking now. :)
