The Sunday Post #260 | September 12, 2021

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

With last Monday being a holiday, it was only a four day work week and I ended up working from home two of those days. It seems like that would have made for an easy week but Thursday and Friday ended up being rather stressful and I was so relieved to have the week come to an end.

By chance I ended up sleeping on the new mattress in the guest room last week and it was... not good. Hard as a rock and it felt like sleeping on a board all night. Ugh. We ended up returning it for another style and the new one was delivered on Friday. The guest room is used infrequently but at least now a comfortable night's sleep will be possible.

I posted on Instagram for the first time in about six months and within three minutes the author left a nice reply. It was a reminder that social media can be a fun and positive thing. I typically avoid social media (I rarely feel good/enriched/happy/or like my time was well spent afterward), but I might dip my toe in now and then.

It's been in the 80's here for the last few days instead of the 90's and it's been such a welcome change. Now it's just regular hot instead of miserable hot. :)

This week's 80's music fix is Is There Something I Should Know (1982) by Duran Duran. (Can someone please explain how this song is almost 40 years old? Ack!) Enjoy!

  1. Mattresses are expensive and hard to find just the right one. At least you found out soon enough and were able to return yours. When I got my new bed, it was much higher than the floor model, and the mattress was over a foot high. Had to send it back (pay a restocking fee). Glad you enjoyed Jay. I am looking forward to more books in that series.

    1. Right? It's like this huge investment and you're basically just taking a chance that you'll get lucky and choose a good one.

  2. Having an author respond to my IG posts is like the most exciting thing!

  3. Aww, that's nice about the Instagram comment. I don't think I've opened my Insta app since the beginning of the year. I also find social media more stressful than useful. I hope you have a great week!

    1. I took a giant step away from social media a year or two ago and have never regretted it. So much negative input - ugh.

  6. That Duran Duran song is now in my head. lol Even before I played the video it started in my head. Short weeks always seem more stressful and almost longer than the usual 5 day weeks for me too. Gah. Hope you have a good week!

    1. Isn't it unfair how short weeks seem to be stressful weeks? Gah!

  7. Social media definitely has its charms. But at times I also don't really like it. Especially when I feel like the posts I make aren't seen the way I hope.
I love the look of that Devney Perry book.
Have a great week and happy reading.

    1. It's hard for me to tune out/filter out all the negativity on social media and just concentrate on the good stuff. I feel better just avoiding it altogether, usually.

  9. Sorry to hear your work week was stressful. That's great that you were at least able to return the uncomfortable mattress and find a better one. And wow, it seems completely impossible that Duran Duran's music is 40 years old. I feel ancient, lol.

    1. Right? It's like how can that be 40 years ago? It was an instant reality check. LOL

  10. So great the week ended and you could have a nice weekend. It's wonderful you were able to return the mattress. Yes, I'd like to get back to the 80s but we are going to have more 90s this week.

  11. Oh wow Instagram. I haven't updated that in AGES. Yikes...

Short weeks are weird. Sometimes they go by SLOWER for me, I don't get it. Ugh. Hope your new week is good though.

    1. Yeah, I've been absent from social media for ages but I dipped my toe back into IG. That's the only one that I have even a little interest in.

  14. Getting a new mattress is the worst, you can't really tell until you test it out if it will work out or not.

    1. Exactly! It's really a chance thing trying to pick a good one by testing it in a store for 5 minutes.

  15. I had to buy a new mattress last year and it was such a stupefying process because it matters much more than you expect it to!
It’s inconceivable that both DurannDuran and I have aged 40+ years!

Wishing you a great reading week

I'm sorry it was a rough end of the week, but I hope you had a nice weekend and this week is much better! I was sick most of last week, so that was a bit ugh for me too!

  18. Why is it shorter work weeks always feel more stressful? It wasn't a holiday here in the Uk but I had booked Monday off of work and it felt like I returned to slowly building chaos through the week. Oh well, at least you managed to sort the mattress for the guest room. Even if it isn't used often, when you know it wouldn't be a comfortable experience that do come and stay wouldn't be fun for you.

    1. Sometimes taking days off doesn't even seem worth it. Sure you enjoy the time away, but then you return to utter chaos.

  19. I’ve been avoiding social media lately too for the same reasons. Just trying to focus more on making my piece of the world a little happier instead of the masses online.

So true about calling too! Last way to get ahold of me. 😂 I hope this week is kind to you!

    1. Amen to that! There's so much drama and negativity on social media. I want no part of it. Obviously I don't have to engage in it, but I don't even want to see it. Just taking it in feels draining.

  22. I need a new mattress. It's so hard to pick one because there are so many choices and they're not cheap! We finally narrowed it down to one and I hope it works out. Nice that you tested your guest and were able to exchange. I'm sure any visitors will appreciated it!

I was on call for Labor Day and didn't get called in, but that meant I was swamped on Tuesday and the other sonographer called off! It was a week from hell from that point because every day was a catch up from the last. So glad it was over. This week was a little better. Hope you got some rest too, Tanya!
