Happy New Year! And so begins the seemingly impossible task of trying to remember to type 2022. Every year it's a struggle. :)

However you rang in the new year, I hope you stayed safe and healthy. This year, more than ever, we stayed home. This Omicron variant is no joke. While it seems to be less severe, and less likely to requite hospitalization, it's so very contagious. Even though I've not gotten lax with safety measures, I'm even more aware of masking and distancing lately.

My New Year's Eve was filled with takeout pizza, Parcheesi, and the Tampa Lightning hockey game. A pretty perfect evening for me. :)

I'm not one to make resolutions but I do need to get back on track with eating healthier. I've gotten so lax over the last couple months and I can feel the difference. Time to recommit to better eating and getting some activity in. Do you make resolutions? Set yearly goals or intentions?

I watched the Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts Reunion last night and it was oddly emotional. I enjoyed the books and the movies but that's the extent of it. HP was not part of my childhood (I think I was 30 when the first book released) so it holds none of the nostalgia factor for me that it does for many others. I have no emotional tie to the franchise and simply view them as entertaining books/movies. But it was still a bit moving to see the actors reunite and hear them express what the experience meant to them. Seeing their bonds and their tears got to me.

This week's 80's music fix is New Year's Day (1983) by U2. A little on the nose but I couldn't help myself.

  1. I'm still waiting with the HP reunion because it'll probably make me emotional as well and I need time for that xD I'm also super cautious with Omicron, even if it's perhaps less intense, I wouldn't want to spread it any further! Thankfully I just managed to book my booster shot so that'll help set some nerves at ease. I hope you have a lovely week :)

    1. Hooray for scheduling a booster. I got mine in November and am so thankful for it. I hope you'll enjoy the HP special when you watch it! :)

  2. The holidays are terrible for my standard diet, but now we can go back to our regularly scheduled menus. U2 is one of my favorites! Such a good song.

    1. Oh my goodness, the holidays seem to be 99% about the FOOD! It'll be good to put that behind me and get back on track.

  3. I definitely want to watch the Harry Potter reunion - our daughter is named Luna because my husband loved that character so much! I don't make resolutions but I try to have a theme for the year - 2022 is reclaim. I want to reclaim my time by cutting back at work now that my daughter is in kindergarten, reclaim my health by exercising more regularly and eating better, etc. Wishing you a great year of reading in 2022!

    1. How interesting that your daughter is named after a HP character. :) And reclaim is a great word for the year!

  4. Yeah, the holidays REALLY mess up my eating. I've been on an all-sugar diet since Halloween. I need to calm down and go back to eating boring regular food. Happy New Year!

  5. I need to eat better as well. I have just let myself stress eat for the past year and it is out of control. I don't really make resolutions per se, but I know this is a goal for me this year for sure.

    1. Yep, stress eating, boredom eating... I need to find better outlets than food.

  6. Happy new year, Tanya! I definitely need to start eating better soon, too. I didn't eat that great while I was pregnant, so now I need to retrain myself!

  7. I want to watch HP reunion but it's not on Netflix! And yes to keeping social distances and to eating healthier. We did eat pizza and watched Disney+ on the 31st LOL

  8. Can you believe I've never read any of the Harry Potter books? I watched a few of the movies. You New Year's Eve sounded perfect! I want some more quiet evenings. I'm tired and now sick from my granddaughter (not covid, but still!) and we traveled home early yesterday. I hear you on eating better. I need get back on track too! Happy New Year, Tanya!

  12. I constantly work my goals and plans so I don't have ones specifically for 2022 yet. I am working on some reading goals. I have most all of my big house projects complete so I'll be doing more cleaning and working with what I have. There's lots of sewing and quilting projects on hand. Happy New Year!

  13. I just realized that the Return to Harry Potter was out the other night. I need to sit down this week and watch it. I never read the books (except for the last two). HP didn't hit my radar until it was in theaters, but I hope to one day sit down and read the series. I hear that while the movies did an amazing job, you can only fit so much in a 2.5 hr film

    1. The movie adaptations were really well done, but it's true... when a book is 600-700 pages long, there's only so much you can fit.

  14. I do need to get back to eating a bit healthier for sure! I didn't go too crazy over the holidays, but it always messes me up soon. hah

  15. Eating healthier is such a worthy goal, as that is something I am focusing on too. And with this pandemic, having a healthy body can only help you more. I think its good to focus on good hygiene and social distancing. At least its less severe. That is a silver lining.

  16. I'm the same with not remembering what year it is. It's always a nightmare with work as so much of our stuff requires us to put dates. I'm the one confusing the system every year. I've still yet to watch the HP reunion, I might do that today on my final day off before returning to work. I was fully in the Harry Potter hype when the films and books released so I know I'll probably find it a nostalgic watch.

    1. I imagine it will be quite nostalgic for you. There was a moment between Emma Watson and Rupert Grint that brought me to tears. The bonds those people share is obvious.

  17. That meme cracks me up. I've been seeing it make the rounds this week. I know so many of us can relate. I will definitely need to be focusing on eating better this year, too. I was way too lax this past year! I just added Ripple Effect to the TBR!

    1. I started off last year strong and then it just... fizzled. It was such an odd year with the pandemic and working from home. It definitely threw me off my game.

  18. Sounds like you had a great New Year's to me! We just stayed home and I think we watched a movie. I don't even remember. LOL

  19. Your Totally Random is killing me. It's so true, lol. We stayed in on NYE too. I think we started watching a movie and all fell sleep well before midnight. Not that we ever do much for it, but Covid surging yet again definitely put a damper on holiday get togethers.

    1. Yeah, NYE is always a quiet night for us but with Covid cases skyrocketing again we weren't going anywhere.

  20. Happy New Year! I hope it's a good one for you and yours, Tanya.

Good luck with eating healthier this year. I really need to eat better this year too. Last year was a mix of overeating or barely eating anything and I'd just started getting back to "normal" when the holidays hit and threw it all off again... But in a normal holiday indulgence sense which is much better than the other reason, I guess!

    1. Food seems to be everywhere at the holidays. There's no escaping it. By the time it's over I find myself craving veggies and lighter fare.

  21. My resolutions are always try and cook home made food for my boys, walk with my friends once a week, get myself on our elliptical another time a week and then read at least a book a week too. So they're continual resolutions that I try and keep for the most part lol. I borrowed some new cook books on Overdrive and am hoping I like one or a few of them! Wishing you all the luck with eating healthier ♥!

    1. Those are definitely goals were repeating! I hope your find some new favorite recipes to put into rotation. I love trying new recipes! In fact, we're having a new one tonight - a lightened up version of chicken and dumplings from Emily Bites (my favorite blog for healthy recipes).

  22. I don't do resolutions either but I really need to find some type of focus this year. I feel like I've just been coasting for the past 2 years - just trying to hang in there.

I might check out that Jill Shalvis. I just got back to reading her and remembered how comforting her books can be.

    Happy New Year Tanya!

    1. I can relate. It's hard to find focus when it feels like everything is in this weird state of limbo. Like we're all just in this holding pattern, waiting for normal to return.

That was my first by Shalvis and I really enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll seek out more.

  24. I really want to watch the HP reunion! I forgot it was coming and life has been busy. I read HP as an adult as well, but in my 20s. It has some nostalgia for me, for sure.

I hear you on needing to recommit to eating better. So far, I'm not doing so well with that in 2022, but It's only the 7th, still time to get it right lol.

Hope you're having a great start to the year!

Yeah, my eating has been all over the place this first week of the year. LOL I'll have a super healthy breakfast, crappy fast food lunch and then a mostly okay dinner. Baby steps, right? :)
