The Sunday Post #278 | January 30, 2022

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

Another week of working from home (again). Based on what I'm hearing from my boss, a return to work isn't on the horizon any time soon. Cases are still running rampart in the city and at the office (because there are some still working in-office). On Thursday I realized I hadn't stepped foot outside of the house since the previous Sunday... and it was getting to me. We ditched our at-home dinner plans, went for a drive, grabbed some take-out, and ate in one of the finest parking lots in town. 😁 It was a much needed break.

Winter is here and I'm loving it. Yesterday actually set some records, I think. The coldest day we've had in years. The high for the day hovered right around 40 degrees. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and laugh but that is seriously cold for northeast Florida! Last night actually dipped into the 20's. Ack!

Yesterday we had to attend a funeral. It's fine, it was for my sister's husband's mother (my sister's mother-in-law), someone I barely knew. We just went for my brother-in-law. Interesting service. It was my first time at a Catholic church. Because of the cold, we skipped the graveside service. At that point it was still in the 30's with wind gusts of 40 mph. Not a real outdoors kind of day.

I'm looking forward to the playoff games later today. My main sport is hockey but I do enjoy some football, too. I'm hoping the Chiefs win their game; I'd love to see Patrick Mahomes make it to another Super Bowl.

In light of the blast of cold we're getting, this week's 80's music fix is The Bangles cover of Hazy Shade of Winter (1987). Stay warm!

I'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT!

  1. I grabbed that Walsh boxed set too. I mean, less than a dollar. Cold is a relative thing. I grew up in the northeast and will never get used to these frigid temperatures. It's 12F right now, but 0F with the windchill. Cold to me. I feel you with the WFH. I hardly leave the house either. I didn't even do my shopping this weekend because of the snow. Enjoying a parking lot meal is a nice change of pace.

    1. We've been dining in parking lots for the last two years... it's become a thing. I won't know how to eat in an actual restaurant by the time this thing is over. LOL

  2. Well see what we are reduced to do to have some fun Tanya! Eating in parking lots LOL And it's unseasonably warm here. Not a speck of snow in sight!

  3. Wow, that is really cold for Florida! Crazy! Yeah, I get a little stir crazy when I am stuck home for a while, so I get that getting out and driving around! I'm wishing that my school would go to virtual again, as my new job doesn't make me want to be at work like my last one did. Hope you have a good week, and I'll be rooting for the Chiefs today as well!

    1. I was so sad to see the Chiefs lose the playoff game! I'll be pulling for the Rams to beat those Bengals this weekend!

  4. one of the finest parking lots. lol you crack me up. yay another mahomey fan. i'm with you. also i will be rooting for stafford and the rams. i am a lions fan, and have a detroit jersey with stafford's name and number. yeah, i live in florida and i am not liking the weather, though the sun is shining and feels nice. maybe i'll step outside to clean out the robot and skimmers and fire up the pool. we have oak tress around us and they are constantly shedding their leaves and i need to stay on top of it for the robot to handle them. have a great week

  5. YES! I'm so glad you're getting winter weather finally! I wish my school would go online... I saw on some website (so idk if it's actually true but it felt true), that my state (OK) was rated as the lowest state in all of America in terms of Covid safety. Makes sense. No one cares out here.

  6. I hope the Chiefs win as well. I like that with my job I have a choice whether to be working at home or not. I will only work at home if I get sick because I am so antisocial and would never be around other humans haha I think most states are seeing the rise in cases mostly due with how easily this spreads at least the symptoms and quarantine is way less so count the blessings in that.

I am really eager to see what you think of Best Men, I have been wanting to read it so badly.

Happy Reading and stay healthy and joy filled.

  7. I love Hazy Shade of Winter. It's very fitting for this time of year. I'm glad you were able to get out of the house. I am pushed out to my daughter's school and sporting events, but feel like I'm home way too much too.

  8. yes it's nice to get some different seasons of weather. I don't mind the cold - it's the wind that is the problem. I'm not watching football. I always preferred college to NFL. I am getting excited for the Olympics!

  9. Yay for cold finally arriving!!

We finally had a warmer (40's) and sunny week. I was starting to get a little stir crazy myself. We've had a thing called an inversion that basically keeps us cold and foggy all day. Can't see a thing driving so I just stayed home most days unless I really needed something.

Cases are quadrupling in our area, so we just do our thing, going for walks and eating outside.

  10. It is hard. My wife just got Covid from work (her idiot boss came in- sick- and didn't wear a mask). So she's recovering... her workplace is one of the bad ones though, I know not all are.

I've heard it's been cold in Florida!

    Hazy LOVE that.

  11. Honestly, those temps are cold, even for where I live! 20s at night is really chilly.

  12. I am glad that you are able to work from home. We take a lot of walks so I am usually okay to stay home for quite a while but I am understand the need to get out. I hope that you have a great week. Go Chiefs!

  13. I have had several FL friends talk about the cold-and the lizards falling from trees. Glad you got out of the house a bit.
As a resident of Cincinnati, I can't say I'm rooting for the Chiefs!

  14. I'm happy you got out of the house! Whenever I get cranky it's because I've been inside too long. Chicago's covid numbers are calming down.

  15. This Florida winter is killing me! I hate when I get that cold air funny feeling in my lungs. XD I hope you enjoy your new read!

  17. That does sound cold to me, but I live in Southern California, lol. Glad to hear you're still able to work from home. It is nice to get out and about to break things up, too. Glad to hear you enjoyed your parking lot dinner! :)

  18. I'm seeing a lot of bloggers rooting for the Chiefs, so guess I'll root for ya!
Over here the snow is not kicking in yet, but storms are.
We always name storms, and this one is called Corrie, which is also my mom's name and my BF his mom's name, so we have been making a lot of jokes the past few days!

  19. Yikes, that is cold! Sounds like you had a nice evening out ;)
You've read some great books. I can't wait to read your thoughts on some of the ones I read as well.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  20. So glad to hear you finally got that colder weather you've been hoping for. And I hear you on going stir crazy. I went out to get my hair cut on Saturday and I'm pretty sure that was the only time I left my house all week. That couple of hours was enough though. I saw enough unmasked people that I was scurrying right back home after my appointment, lol.

  21. Great wrap up! I'm kinda jealous that you're getting some wintery vibes (from someone who lives in the tropics lol it's mind-meltingly hot here right now)! You've got so many great books on here. I also got the Reluctant Hearts series and The Best Men—I can't wait to read both of these 😍 Hope you have a great week!

  22. My husband and I have had parking lot dinners regularly for almost the past year! Haha! Now it's almost become preferable. We fire up a podcast and people watch. ;) Here in Texas, 40 degrees is cold, as well, so I completely understand where you're coming from. Love your song choice! I still need to read a Meghan Quinn book. I have several on my tbr. Happy reading and stay warm!

  23. Yay for getting out of the house for a bit. It really does get to be a bit much after awhile!

I'm glad the Bengals one, as I'm a Cincinnati fan. LOL :)
