The Sunday Post #237 | January 31, 2021

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
What a week! Work has been incredibly busy as I've been working on a new project. It's coming together but there are a lot of moving pieces right now to pull together. Luckily, I'm a details kind of person so this is right up my alley and I enjoy it, even though it's a lot right now.

Do you ever have those days when you feel like you're being plotted against? That was me Friday afternoon. I decided to take a break from work and actually leave the house for lunch. The first place we went, we placed an order at the drive-thru but when we received the order we realized they apparently only heard half of it so The Husband got his food and I didn't. They were already incredibly slow so I didn't want to place another order and wait even longer. So on the way home we stopped at another place. After sitting in the drive-thru for five minutes and not moving up even once... I decided I obviously was not meant to eat. LOL The universe had spoken. But on the plus side, I got out of the house for a while. Ha!

My mom comes over once or twice a week for dinner (the only person I'm ever around other than The Husband) and we usually end up playing a game. Our favorite lately has been Parcheesi. Anyone remember that one? It's funny because The Husband is super competitive, my mom totally is not, and I'm in the middle. It leads to some interesting games. It's hard to find games that work well with just three people, instead of four or more. Anyone have any recommendations for games that work well with three players?

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to head back to all the 80's goodness. Here's one from Pat Benatar - Invincible (1985). Bonus points if you actually saw the movie it was from, The Legend of Billie Jean. :)

  1. I know, that you know, that I saw Billie Jean, and I was a total Pat Benatar fan. I will never forget the Tory twins using Miss Piggy and Kermit hand puppets to act out Hit Me with Your Best Shot. The nuns were speechless. You had quite an unfortunate Friday. I hope your next foray into the world goes better. Good luck with the project! Ooh, you reading the Ice Knights books. I liked them all, but the 2nd was my favorite. Hope you are enjoying it!

    1. Billie Jean was so much fun. That montage when she was on the run and getting rides from different people always made it seem like she was gone for weeks and weeks. But in reality it was like a couple days. LOL That always made me chuckle.

  2. Sorry about the food situation. That would be stressful for me because I love to eat! I would have made Husband share. Have a good February.

  3. Its always a plus to be able to get out of the house. If I didn't work frontline I think I would go stir crazy and I am a introvert LOL

I hope you enjoyed that Linda Howard book I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to see your thoughts on it.

    1. I tend to go too long without getting out of the house. I need to start taking more walks or drives... just for the change of scenery.

    1. Hangry, for sure! As soon as I got home I was scrounging for food. LOL

  6. I hate that when they forget my food. Hope you got a good lunch despite all the difficulties. I'm not much of a board game person, but it seems like 3 players would present a challenge.

    Hope you enjoyed MacKenzie's Mountain!

    1. Mackenzie's Mountain fell into the "just okay" range for me. The heroine was so prim and proper that I felt like I was reading a historical. I had to keep checking that it was actually published in 1989. LOL

  8. Oh, I hope you ended up getting something for lunch! We grabbed something from a drive through last week which we rarely do. We ended up with an extra sandwich...so maybe I got yours?! I did see The Legend of Billie Jean. Many times actually! What did you think of Roommate? Have a great week!

    1. LOL Yep, you must have got my sandwich, Carole! :)
The Legend of Billie Jean was such an 80's classic. Kind of over the top but so much fun.

  9. Haha, that drive-thru situation would have made my husband so mad!

  10. I can totally relate to the busy week at work. We got a standard poodle puppy this weekend, and I've taken off for the next week. Naturally the team I managed was moved under a different boss and group 2 days before I was out. I'm sure it will be a mess when I get back in, but I'm really enjoying the time off with our new family member!

  12. I left the house yesterday for the first time all week. Masked up and picked up some fresh veggies and meats. The 30 minutes or so did me a world of good. We like playing cards like Kings and Progressive Rummy.

    1. I forget sometimes how long I've been cooped up in the office. Then I go out for something and it's like, oh, this is what the outside world looks like. :)

  13. Wow.. that definitely sounds like you just weren't supposed to eat! LOL!! I'm glad you could see the humor in it though.
I've been playing Rummikub on my phone this last week. It's an app, and you can play it with strangers or with your husband. LOL!! The only down part is, it's on your phone. But it's addicting for sure.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  18. "plotted against?" Haha right? I have those days... and drive thrus are their own adventure these days, it seems. I feel like I could take a nap half the time and not move.

Benatar! Nice. I was lucky enough to see her live once, it was fun :)

  20. OMG, your Friday drive-thru fiasco would have made me so incredibly cranky and hangry, I can already imagine it! :)

  21. The drive through stuff would have given me the rage... I don't do hungry well, lol. My poor husband would have been cutting off his own arm just to feed me so I stopped breathing fire. 🙈

I've never played Parcheesi! It's one of those games that I've heard of through tv/movies/books but it's not really a thing in the UK... I had to google it... Given we have games that are similar in nature, I can honestly say there'd be chaos in my house. We're all super competitive, lol.

Glad you're all doing ok! Hope this week's books are good ones and that the universe is kinder if you leave the house for lunch again. ;)

    1. LOL I'm just imagining three competitive people at your house playing Parcheesi. Or any game. That would be fun to watch. :)

And yeah, I think I'll be staying home for lunch this week. At least I know I'll get fed. Ha!

  22. Oh wow, I think the drive thru experiences would have made me crazy. My husband and I have been playing Backgammon lately, which is fun, but I think it's meant for only 2 players. When we have 3 players, we usually switch to something like Trivial Pursuit or just cards.

    1. We're total backgammon fans here. My husband and I started playing way back when we were dating. We've moved from an actual physical board to playing against each other on our iPads, but it's every bit as fun. We play almost every evening. :)
