The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

It was a short week at the office as I was off on Thursday and Friday. The network issues from the previous week were finally resolved so even though it was a three-day work week, I got a lot done.

On Thursday The Husband and I headed down to Tampa. Upon arrival we discovered our hotel was in a horrible area - something you can't always tell when booking online. I in no way felt safe there. We managed to cancel the reservation without penalty (which took a while but worked out) and booked another hotel about a mile from the arena (at double the rate - ack!). The Lightning game (Tampa's NHL team) was a super exciting one. It was a physical game and midway through the third period a major fight broke out. The refs handed out 21 penalties among 10 players. I wonder if that was a record? LOL The game went into overtime and unfortunately the Golden Knights scored first, so the Lightning lost 3-4. Womp womp. Still a great time, though, and I'm so glad we were able to go.

We got back home on Friday and all was well but by Saturday The Husband was not feeling well. He seemed to go downhill all day so we went to urgent care around 9 PM. They did Covid and flu tests and... he is positive for Covid. He's pretty miserable and I feel terrible for him. Since I have obviously been exposed, I also have to quarantine for 5 days so I'll be working from home most of the upcoming week. So far I am testing negative and hopefully it will stay that way... but I suppose that isn't very likely. 😣 We've been super careful and hyper-conscious for three years now - we still limit contact with people, we still wear masks - and after all this time, it still happened. Ugh.

Since I could use a little musical pick-me-up, I'm sharing a favorite even though I've used it before (possibly more than once). Here's Don't Leave Me This Way (1986) by the Communards. Enjoy!

HOW WAS YOUR WEEK?

  1. Oh no, Covid isn't fun but it just depends on the person. I think covid will end up being something like the cold or flu, I don't think we will get away from it, but I do think the symptoms will die down and be less serious. But Americans are bad about hygiene so it doesn't shock me, I think everyone will get it eventually at least once. Hope you have a healing week and the recovery goes smoothly! Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers this week. Hope you enjoy that Giana Darling, not sure how I feel about that cover, her original is so much better lol

    1. Renee - Covid definitely isn't going anywhere. I imagine it is here for good just like any other virus (flu, cold, etc). Thanks for the good wishes. Hopefully my husband will feel better soon.

I was just so-so on the regular cover for Lessons in Corruption so I used this one. I really like the cover for the second book, though!

  2. I hope the Husband is doing OK. I had Covid twice. I wasn't death's door, but it was no picnic either. Here's to a mild case for the Husband. I had a similar experience with a hotel I booked for a show. I got no refund, and when we were driving home, there was a blizzard. We ended up not too far from Yale at a really beautiful hotel. Worth every penny for my comfort and sanity.

    1. Sam - I remember you having it twice. It's so strange how it affects people so differently. Today he is running a fever and the cough seems worse. I ran out and filled his prescriptions so hopefully they help quickly.

I have zero regrets about paying for the second hotel. Totally worth it!

  3. I am sorry your husband got COVID Tanya! We still haven't caught it here but maybe it will catch up with us soon. Who knows? Now, this week I thought of you because I was reading Icebreaker and I was thinking that I could become a hockey fan like you because that seems so intense! I hope your husband will get better very soon!

    1. Thanks Sophie. We were actually surprised it was Covid. We've been so careful for so long - vaxed, boosted x 3, masked, etc - but here we are.

Hockey is definitely an intense game! So physical and so fast. I love it! :)

    1. Thanks Angela. I am being *so careful* around him. Staying masked when I'm in the same room as him. Otherwise staying way on the other side of the house.

  5. Sounds like a fun game! The fight reminds me of the old Red Wings/ Avalanche brawls lol.

Sorry to hear about the Covid! Is this your first time with it then? It does suck that you can do everything right, tale the precautions, and still get it. Hoping your husband is feeling better soon and that you stay Covid free!

    1. Greg - Oh my goodness, that Lighting/Vegas brawl was insane! 10 separate penalties. Crazy.

Yep, we'd managed to avoid Covid for 3 years until my husband got it. And I never did get it from him... three negative tests. Weird, but I'm glad!

  6. That is all horrible, the hotel, the Lightning's losing and your husband getting covid.

  7. At least you got to have some fun before the covid diagnosis? That really sucks. I can only imagine how you feel. I've been sticking with masking, but my family hasn't done as well. We've had a couple of illnesses this year, but no positive covid tests. I feel like it's only a matter of time. I hope you can avoid it! And that your hubby feels better soon.

  8. Sorry to hear about your husband's COVID diagnosis! Hope he's doing okay and you're staying healthy! My mother also caught it 2 weeks ago, after being so careful for so long - luckily she didn't have it too bad but it is concerning how you can be so careful about everything and still catch it. But I am happy you at least had a nice weekend!

  9. Oh I'm so sorry to hear your husband has covid! I just got it this February and was so annoyed as I had gone so long without it. My husband didn't end up getting it so there is hope for you! The hockey game sounds fun. It's been forever since I've been to a hockey game but I used to love them. Have a great week and I hope you stay healthy and your husband feels better!

  12. So sorry to hear about your husband, Tanya! Hopefully you won't get it! At least you did have a nice time at the game! Awesome that you were able to change hotel rooms without penalty. It's no fun to be in a place where you don't feel safe.

  13. I read The New Guy. Pretty generic and predictable but I did enjoy it anyway.

  15. I started the month with a positive COVID test myself. It wasn't better or worse than the last time I had it, just different. Wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping that you've been spared the sickness for yourself. Thankfully my husband tested negative the entire time!

    1. Ethan - Sorry to hear you had another bout with Covid! Thank goodness your husband didn't get it. I somehow managed to avoid it myself when my husband had it last week - but still managed to get sick with some random virus that knocked me down hard. So Covid or not, I was still sick. Ugh. Here's to both of us feeling better!
