Top Ten Tuesday: Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! | Mardi Gras Edition

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

THIS WEEK'S TOPIC:
Mardi Gras Edition | Books with Purple, Yellow and Green Covers

Mardi Gras isn't exactly a holiday I celebrate, or even really think about. But coincidentally, I just read a news article yesterday about how the 2020 Mardi Gras events in New Orleans spawned approximately 50,000 coronavirus cases and turned the city into a COVID hotspot. This year they've closed the bars and put restrictions in place so hopefully there won't be a repeat.

Even though Mardi Gras isn't a thing for me, Top Ten Tuesday turns it into another reason to peruse my shelves and admire the pretty covers. And that never gets old. :) Here are some purple/yellow/green covers from my Goodreads 'Read' shelf.

HAVE YOU READ ANY OF THESE BOOKS?

  2. It's crazy to think a year ago everyone was going to festivals without even thinking about disease control. How the world has changed.

    1. Isn't that the truth? What a difference in just one year.

  3. I will never get tired of cover-related TTTs! You found some really great ones, I can't believe I forgot about Evelyn Hugo, such an iconic green cover!

  4. So many pretty covers! I can't believe I forgot to include Evelyn Hugo with my green ones. That's probably my favorite green cover but it completely slipped my mind while doing this post. Same thing with Well Played for yellow. That's great that New Orleans is trying to be safer when it comes to Covid this year. Hopefully their efforts will pay off.

    1. It was actually a little tricky coming up with so many green and yellow covers. I had to dig deep. :)

  5. I have the same relationship with Mardi Gras. It's been cool to see everyone's reactions to it. Thanks for stopping by earlier.

  6. WOW! 50k Covid cases!? That's insaaaane 🙈 Great covers though! Lol. I had Bride Test and Love and Other Words on my post today too. Such great books! 😍

  7. I don't celebrate Mardi Gras either. I live in St. Louis where they have a huge celebration and parade every year (I don't think that they did this year though). I went one time. It was my first date with my husband and let's just say he's lucky that he got a second date. These are some beautiful covers!

    1. Ha! I hope he made up for it with the second date, Carole. :)

  8. Perks of Being a Wallflower!! I love that book. My French teacher in high school used to do a King Cake, and I've gotten one for my house a few times in the past. Besides that, I don't really celebrate. I mean, it's essentially Fat Tuesday before Lent so when I DID celebrate Lent, I guess we would eat lots of fun food today? haha

    1. It's been sooo many years since I read Perks. Both the book and the movie were so good.

  9. I actually read 7 of these! I think I included Love at First too. It has a very pretty purple cover. I don't celebrate Mardi Gras, but I do observe Lent. Wish I was having something better for dinner tonight now.

  11. I'm loving your choices -- and the fact that they put in measures to try and prevent so much covid spread this year in New Orleans.

  13. I don't celebrate Mardi Gras either, but these colors do look good together :) Love Evelyn Hugo!

  14. Mardi Gras isn't a thing here either, we have Pancake Day, basically eating up all your "bad" food before Lent, though a lot of people (like me) just do it for the pancakes!

  16. I'm not a party person, so Mardi Gras is definitely not my thing. It's not celebrated in Arizona, anyway. The MG colors make for fun book cover collages, though!

    Happy TTT!

  17. Mardi Gras isn’t a thing here, so I didn’t even know it was Mardi Gras until I saw the TTT topic. I do love looking at pretty covers, though!

  19. Great list! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo made my list this week, too, and I keep meaning to give Well Played a try. I need the libraries to reopen so I can borrow it!

  20. Wow, didn't know that many cases resulted from last years celebration! Good thing they closed down this year, even if it is sad. It's not my thing, but I'm sure the traditions and the money the city earns from the celebration makes it tough to skip.

I know, I love looking at pretty covers! I enjoyed Well Met and The Bride Test. Great picks, Tanya!

    1. Yeah, I'm sure they'll take a heft financial hit but hopefully they choose to think public health and safety trumps the $$.

  21. I do want to read The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo, heard so much about it ! But I'd also love to pick Fix her up by Tessa Bailey, I read quite a lot of hers not so many years ago and I loved her style and her spunky heroins :)

  22. The only one I have read is Malice, which I loved, but I also need to read Perks someday, and Evelyn Hugo! OH wait I actually read CIty of Bones like, 27 years ago hahah. Sad that Mardi Gras was such a messy situation last year, and equally sad that we are still in this hellscape a full year later. Good for NOLA for trying to control the situation though, that is quite responsible of them!

  23. All the pretty covers! I'd love to spend Mardi Gras in New Orleans one year... I'm not a fan of crowds and chaos (so it's an odd choice, I know!) but I'd love to experience something I've read so much about for YEARS. :)

    1. I'm surprised you want to hit up Mardi Gras since you're not a fan of crowds! LOL That's the main reason I don't have any interest in going. I hope you get to experience it one day!
