With a past like hers, Jessica Clayton feels safer in a life spent on the road. She's made a career out of helping others downsize--because she's learned the hard way that the less "stuff," the better, a policy she applies equally to her relationships. But a new client is taking Jess back to Cape Sanctuary, a town she once called home...and that her little sister, Rachel, still does. The years apart haven't made a dent in the guilt Jess still carries after a handgun took the lives of both their parents and changed everything between them.
While Jess couldn't wait to put the miles between her and Cape Sanctuary, Rachel put down roots, content for the world--and her sister--to think she has a picture-perfect life. But with the demands of her youngest child's disability, Rachel's marriage has begun to fray at the seams. She needs her sister now more than ever, yet she's learned from painful experience that Jessica doesn't do family, and she shouldn't count on her now.
Against her judgment, Jess finds herself becoming attached--to her sister and her family, even to her client's interfering son, Nate--and it's time to put everything on the line. Does she continue running from her painful past, or stay put and make room for the love and joy that come along with it?

This is only the second book I have read from Thayne and both have been such feel-good stories that were exactly what I needed at the time. While these characters were dealing with some serious issues and had heartache in their pasts, the tone was never too heavy. I certainly recommend this heartwarming tale to readers who enjoy stories of family connections with a side of romance.

I really like the idea of the juxtaposition between Jess's professional life and her personal life. It makes for such an interesting dichotomy!
ReplyDeleteShe was such an interesting character.
DeleteRachel seems like a very relatable character, and that cover is so dreamy!
ReplyDeleteI really felt for Rachel. And the cover makes me want to go there! :)
DeleteI have never read this author, but I am always looking for the feel-good books. Glad this was a good one for you
ReplyDeleteThis is maybe my third (?) by Thayne and each one has delivered such a feel-good story. Perfect for my mood at the time.
DeleteThis is one of those authors I've seen around a lot and never read. It's good to hear that you enjoyed her book. Makes me more willing to give her a try someday.
ReplyDeleteI think this is only my third from Thayne and while it's not my usual style I'm finding that sometimes they really hit the spot.
DeleteI've read one of her books (a Christmas story) and it was nice, low key, sweet story. I need more of that!
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
Nice, low-key and sweet... that's been my experience with her as well. And sometimes that just what I want. :)
DeleteI'm just starting this one today even though I should've had it read already. I'm a little behind! Nice to see you enjoyed the story and I'm happy that it's not too heavy even though dealing with some heavy issues. I imagine having a child with special needs would put a big strain on a marriage! My heart goes out to couples in that situation.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed it, too, Rachel!
DeleteI've never read anything by RaeAnne Thayne, but I'm always up for a well written feel-good story. This one sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteThayne is definitely on the lighter/sweeter side, but sometimes that's just what I want.
DeleteI really like the sound of this one. I have read so many good reviews for ReaAnne Thayne's books but have yet to pick one up!
ReplyDeleteI've only read two or three by Thayne but I've enjoyed the low-drama, sweet nature of them.
DeleteI constantly see her books added to my library's Overdrive, I really need to read one of them! I love tales that have romance, family and personal struggles woven together, I bet this one would be a hit, I need to add it!
ReplyDeleteJen @ Star-Crossed Book Blog
She definitely has a hefty backlist! I don't read her all the time but sometimes something on the sweeter side, with lower drama, really hits the spot.
