WWW Wednesday #109 | November 3, 2021

WWW Wednesdays is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words
Just share your answers to three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you'll read next?

Question: Does anyone else feel like it should be Friday?
I mean, this week already feels so long. I decided to work from home
tomorrow just to break up the week. Come on, weekend!

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

Currently reading: I've been on a mission lately to complete series that I've had in-work and the Tin Gypsy series (recently rebranded as the Clifton Forge series) is one of them. I'm thrilled to get Luke's story after loving him in the previous book.
Current progress: page 79 of 364 (23%)

Currently listening: The jury is still out on this one. Just last week someone (Rachel, maybe?) gave me a heads up about the attention placed on the age difference between the main characters. So I was prepared, but it's still annoying. And unfortunately I am not warming to April in the least. Hopefully that will change as the story progresses.
Current progress: 27%

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

Recently read: My Twist of Fortune was a freebie I picked up from an author newsletter and my first by Piper Rayne. While there was nothing super remarkable about this one, it must have been the right book at the right time because I enjoyed it so much. Older main characters (40-something), small town, no drama... it just checked all my boxes and gave me such a good feeling. I'll definitely continue the series and read more by Piper Rayne.

Recently listened to: Color me sad to see my time with the Bishop Brothers come to an end! Kennedy Fox has become a real go-to author for me this year and this is the second series of theirs that I've completed. This last book had something of a suspense element which added some tension and of course the romance/steam was off the charts.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

I never know what I'll read next, but both Fallen Jester and Getting Real are possibilities.

  1. I thought that Tin Gypsies series got better with each book. It would be a fun series to binge. I hope Well Matched gets better for you. The age thing didn't really bother me, but maybe I wasn't cued into that part. I am also excited to hear what you think of Getting Real. I can't wait to read that one myself!

    1. I agree, Deanna. The Tin Gypsy series just gets better and better. Devney Perry is so good at adding suspense elements to her stories.

  2. I feel like my experience with Well Matched was through the lens of a single mom, and therefore, I understood April and the things she did and said. The age gap was significant and with her daughter being as old as she was, it's a bit sticky with your beau being that young. I'm just saying...

    1. We definitely all bring our own experiences to the table when reading and that surely impacts our views on any given story. I can see where you would connect more with April. I just feel as if she's unreasonable hung up on the age difference. She talks as if she's ancient (at 40!) and like Mitch is barely out of college.

    1. I agree, Renee. The original covers were *chef's kiss* I'm so glad I bought them all in paperback before she re-branded.

  8. I really enjoyed Well Matched but I did think April was a little too hung up on the age difference and on making 40 seem like she was practically ready for the nursing home, lol. Sometimes it felt like she was just using it as the most convenient reason why she shouldn't pursue a relationship with him.

    1. Unfortunately, the further I get into the story the less I am jibing with April. She's kind of ruining it for me. lol Thank goodness for Mitch, Emily and the others.

  10. Loved Mitch! He was so sweet and went out of his way to help April and she wasn't very nice about it. I wasn't a fan of her making such a big deal about the age difference and I didn't like how she kept herself apart, not only from Mitch but everyone else, too.

I just started listening to Getting Real and I'm really liking it! Doesn't hurt that Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt are narrating. Love their performances!

    1. Mitch was such a gem! Loved him and his (surprisingly) tender heart. April about ruined it for me.

I just started Getting Real this morning... Zachary Webber's voice is so delicious. lol

  11. I have my eye on Devney Perry's books, so I can't wait to read your review on this one! She has books on KU, in a different name, and I'm looking forward to dive into her Christmas series hopefully next week. They sound like a lot of fun! And you always seem to love her books. :)
