This Week's Top Ten Tuesday Topic:
Backlist Favorites:
Books I Read and Loved Before Blogging
This week's prompt of Forgotten Backlist Titles is kind of wide open, so I decided to
focus solely on backlist favorites that I read before I started blogging (2015). I believe all of my picks were read between 2013-2015. I noticed two things when browsing my Goodreads shelf from that period. 1) The new adult genre was booming 8-10 years ago, and 2) I was reading a lot of it. While it's no longer a category/sub-genre that I'm drawn to (I prefer characters that have moved beyond the new adult stage of life), I was eating it up a decade ago. 😉
Here are my picks for some favorite backlist titles that I read before Girl Plus Books came to be.
Have you read any of these books?
Colleen's books are titles I see everywhere, but have never read. Maybe someday since I know hers are books readers tend to universally like. :)
ReplyDeleteRissi - I got a chuckle from your comment since Maybe Someday is one of Colleen's book titles. Not sure if that was intentional on your part, but if so, well played. :)
DeleteObsidian is one of the titles I overlooked when it first came out, but now I'm thinking about it again.
ReplyDeleteDeb - I was so completely hooked on Obsidian (and the whole Lux series) back then. It remains a favorite.
DeleteI’ve never read any of them, but I’m glad you liked them. :)
ReplyDeleteHere is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Lydia
Thanks Lydia :)
DeleteYes. I read so much new adult back then. Ugly Love was my first CoHo book. I always liked it.
ReplyDeleteSam - Ugly Love seems to get bashed a lot these days (a lot of hate for the male mc) but I really loved that one when I read it.
DeleteAside from CoHo's book, the only one on here that I really have heard about is Obsidian! I'd never heard of it until I got into the book community but it seems to be a backlist favourite for many!
ReplyDeleteDini - I was so obsessed with Obsidian and the whole Lux series. Years ago I got to meet the cover model for the main character and I was ridiculously excited about that. LOL
DeleteI was happy when I discovered the new adult genre because it was close to my stage of life, but yeah, I have since outgrown it a little as well!
ReplyDeleteAngela - I was well beyond new adult when the genre took off, but I still enjoyed it. Now I'm just too far removed from that time in my life to be able to relate all. That was like, 30 years ago. lol
DeleteGreat List! Easy by Tammara Webber and Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover are two of my favorites! The other eight books are all new to me! I just added Ten Tiny Breaths, I Want It That Way, and White Hot Kiss to my never ending TBR! Thank you for bringing these books to my attention!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great Tuesday!
Alecia - Ten Tiny Breaths was such a great story. I hope you'll love it if/when you get to it!
DeleteI'm sad that NA never really became a thing, and that where it did become a thing, it was only really in romance fiction, I would have loved more NA fantasy!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2023/08/01/top-ten-tuesday-431/
NA seemed huge back around 2010-2013 or so, but then again I was mostly reading contemporary romance. I wasn't aware that it did not extend to other genres.
DeleteVery fun list! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark :)
DeleteYESSSS! I read and loved Ugly Love and The Girl You Left Behind before I blogged. Easy and Ten Tiny Breaths were ones I read shortly after. Great backlist books list!
ReplyDeleteDeanna - Ugly Love seems to get a lot of hate these days, but I loved it. And Easy is one that I couldn't stop thinking about.
DeleteI think people just like to hate on Hoover's books because of her success. It was written back in 2014 and shows the trends of that time. You should try C.W. Farnsworth's Fly Bye. It reminds me a bit of Ugly Love without his trauma. Easy was so good!
DeleteDeanna - I agree. Colleen's success has built over the years and now has exploded. There will be haters because of that. People do love to tear someone down. *eye roll* I'm making note of Fly Bye.
DeleteOh new adult even though I never read any, I remember when it was hot. And some of these covers... Ten Tiny Breaths I'm sure I saw around, and Ugly too. Someone told me I'm drawn to covers with water on them. must be true!
ReplyDeleteGreg - It's funny someone has mentioned the water on the covers thing, because I've noticed it, too. :)
Delete:)
DeleteI remember seeing TEN TINY BREATHS around a lot back in the day. It was on my TBR list then, but I never read it. Maybe I should now. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Susan - It's been years since I read Ten Tiny Breaths but I still remember it well. Such a great story.
DeleteI loved Easy so much! Ten Tiny Breaths and Obsidian as well. Great list!
ReplyDeleteRachel - Easy was one I loved, too! Such a great story and one I thought about long after I finished it.
DeleteAh, Obsidian. The book that made me cringe and swoon all at the same time. Thanks for this throwback. Happy reading. My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/book-with-one-word-titles/
ReplyDeleteStefani - LOL I can understand the opposing feelings. :)
DeleteTen Tiny Breaths looks familiar. I'll have to check that out. I have read a couple of Colleen Hoover's books and loved them
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Sherry - Ten Tiny Breaths was the first I ever read from K.A. Tucker and is still a favorite.
DeleteI had The Girl You Left Behind high up on my TBR for ages but somehow never got to it and then forgotten about it. And the same with basically anything by K.A. Tucker. Great list!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - If you still have any interest in it, The Girl You Left Behind is definitely worth reading!
DeleteSuch a great list with so many of my old faves here! I still need to read Leo, though. That's crazy since I love Mia Sheridan.
ReplyDeleteAli - Leo was the first one I ever read by Mia Sheridan and is still special to me. :)
DeleteHow interesting to go back to 2013-2015! I haven't read any of the books from your list, but have considered reading the one by Jojo Moyes.
ReplyDeleteLucy - I've read a few by Moyes and I think The Girl You Left Behind is still my favorite.
DeleteI've read about half of them. Tamarra Webber was the first indie author I had ever worked with and she's just wonderful and I ended up beta read for Ann Aguirre so had been blogging awhile at the time of this series.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I didn't even read much before blogging. I accidently became a book blog lol
Karen @For What It's Worth
Karen - Ann Aguirre is a blast from the past. She had a NA trilogy that I really loved. After that she seemed to shift to sci-fi and urban fantasy.
DeleteDamn I have so many memories here!!! I nearly read them all!
ReplyDeleteSophie - Some of these really took me back, too! :)
DeleteI have a few of these on my tbr but haven't read a single one of them! It is always fun to see how our tastes change over time.
ReplyDeleteCarole - I agree! While I'm not drawn to new adult these days, I really loved it a decade or so ago.
DeleteTen Tiny Breaths is on my TBR! I hope to read it soon, so glad to hear you loved it!
ReplyDeleteLindsey - It's been so long since I read Ten Tiny Breaths, but I still consider it a favorite.
DeleteUgly Love is the only one I've read. I really enjoyed that one.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne - Ugly Love seems to get a lot of criticism these days, But I loved it when I read it years ago.
DeleteI love the books that you picked up there. I have read and loved the KA Tucker and need to get back to that series. I do want to read that Mia Sheridan. I applaud you for remembering what you read before blogging. I don't know that I could do this haha
ReplyDeleteRenee - Well, Goodreads makes it easy to check what I read when, and determine if it was pre-blogging. I definitely can't depend on my memory alone. LOL
