THE WEEK IN REVIEW
It's been a couple weeks since my last Sunday Post and it feels good to be getting back to my regular schedule.
We took our trip to North Carolina to visit my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Her health has been declining and we had not seen them since pre-Covid. While it was hard to see how much her health has deteriorated in the last couple years (she has Parkinson's), it was a good visit. I truly hit the jackpot when it comes to in-laws because they are the best people. ❤
The day after we returned, The Husband and I got our updated Covid and flu vaccines. I ran a low-grade fever for two days (and had terrible chills) but otherwise bounced right back. Apparently Covid vaccines are no longer free and I was so thankful for good insurance that covered the cost. The cost of the vaccine listed on my paperwork was rather shocking.
Today we are getting some honest to goodness fall weather! The high is just 75 degrees (24 C) and I am loving it. The coming week will be back in the 80's so I'm enjoying this while I can.
Hockey season starts this week and I am beyond excited. There were a lot of trades at the end of last season and it feels like a different team (the Tampa Lightning). It's odd seeing so many new faces (and missing those who were traded - including my favorite player 😭).
Today's throwback song is Sunday Girl (1978) by Blondie. Enjoy!

NEW ADDITIONS
Good to know about the cost of the COVID shot. I'm planning on getting my COVID and Flu shots this week, so I'll keep you posted on my own side effects!
ReplyDeleteEthan - Apparently the vaccine is still free depending on where you go. My insurance paid but apparently some pharmacies are participating in a CDC program to keep it free. Hope you will be side effect free!
DeleteI had heard from people who did their Covid shot at the same time as the flu shot that it was a bit tough. Glad you weren't down for too long. Is Sunday Girl one of those deep cuts? I do not believe I ever heard it, but it's a rather fun one for Blondie. Glad you had a nice visit with the in-laws, and yeah for fall weather. Gosh, it was 80s here last week. I am so glad to see it go.
ReplyDeleteSam - I don't remember Sunday Girl being a big hit so yeah, probably one of those deep cuts. I've always liked it, though. Wow, seems late for y'all to be getting 80's up there. Hope it's more fall-like this week.
DeleteI've really got to get Fourth Wing read! Maybe over Christmas break, or I'll make it my first TBR. Challenge read in 2024, lol. Sorry to hear about your family being sick. My uncle had Parkinson's. It's rough to watch someone going through that. We are finally having beautiful cool fall weather here! I'm so in for it, and yes, I am ready for the bugs to be gone! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteLisa Loves Literature
Lisa - I hope you'll love Fourth Wing if/when you get to it. It definitely lived up to the hype for me!
DeleteGlad your trip to NC was good, but I'm sorry to hear about your sister in law. Parkinson's is tough. I keep putting off my vaccine. I don't know why. But good to know about the price
ReplyDeleteSamantha - I think the vaccine is still free at some places so that's a bonus.
DeleteI'm glad you had a nice trip to NC. I've been loving the weather here. yes luckily our insurance covered the cost also. They are pretty good on preventative stuff. I had no problems but my daughter continued with migraines and some arm soreness. We are going to get to 80 again this week, which is fine.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thanks Anne. The morning we left NC it was in the 50's Felt positively delicious outside. :) Hope you get some more of that. (Athough I think you are on the opposite side of the state from where I was. )
DeleteI'm glad you got to spend some much-needed time with your in-laws. It sounds like a good trip. I haven't gotten the updated covid booster yet. I did get my flu shot yesterday, but I'm waiting a couple more weeks for the covid one. I've never got them together, so thought I wouldn't change that. I am happy you enjoyed Fourth Wing and I'm Your Guy. I also got that Sheridan book, so curious to hear your thoughts on it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteDeanna - I think I got my Covid and flu vaccines together last year so I decided to just go with it. I'd still say my side effects were pretty mild. But I tend to stick with my normal routine, so I can understand that. :) I am riveted by the Mia Sheridan book! So, so interesting!
DeleteGood to know! I'll have to try to get to it soon.
DeleteI'm so glad to read you had a great trip. It's always good to visit family! Mostly.. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to read you loved Fourth Wing too! It's definitely my favorite read of this year! And I can't wait for book two :D
Happy reading!
Maureen - I'm actually glad I read Fourth Wing when I did. Now I don't have too long to wait for the next book! :)
DeleteI'm sorry for your sister-in-law's declining health, but I'm glad you finally got to see them. Henry got his flu shot this week, too, and he was not happy about it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela. I'm glad we went up to NC for the visit, too. Poor Henry! I imagine he was not a happy camper.
DeleteI did all my COVID vaccines so far but don't know if I should keep doing them or not... we'll see! But I am glad that you had a good visit even with your sister in law's deteriorating health Tanya!
ReplyDeleteSophie - I decided to get another Covid vaccine since it's been updated to combat the most current variants. I'll take whatever protection I can get. :)
DeleteThat's interesting about the Covid vaccine, I didn't know they were charging now. I better look into it. Lol about the bugs quote. Right? It's 52 (!) here at the moment so Michigan is definitely in the cooling off stage.
ReplyDeleteOh no about your favorite player! :(
Have a nice week!
I used Couldn't Get It Right for my Song of the Week this week... thank you for the inspiration! :)
Greg - I read a little more and it seems like free vaccines can still be had, as long as the pharmacy participates in the CDC's Bridge Access Program (?). My insurance paid for mine for which I was certainly thankful!
DeleteYes, my favorite Lightning player was traded to the Minnesota Wild at the start of the summer. I'm still not over it. lol
Loved seeing Couldn't Get It Right in your post! :)
Glad you had a good visit with your in laws! And yay for some beautiful fall weather. I love the cooler temps and the changing leaves. I just wish it lasted a little longer. Have a great week. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark! I wish we got more of a fall season here in FL but it's really just a few random days that are slightly less hot. LOL
DeleteAwesome about your trip. Glad you had a good visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Nas.
DeleteMy mother-in-law has been struggling with Parkinson's too. Since her diagnosis a couple of years back she's declined quickly, but last I saw here she seemed to be doing ok. It's hard to see the people you love enduring heath issues. My heart goes out to your family!
ReplyDeleteI'm going back and forth about getting the new Covid vaccine because I have such awful flu like side effects. My husband is going to get it, and I'll get the flu one for sure. Still, debating with myself.
Glad to hear you're enjoying more mild temps! Yes, that random! The bugs! :)
Rachel - I'm so sorry to her that your MIL has Parkinson's, too. My SIL was diagnosed 10+ years ago and the decline was fairly slow. But now it has really sped up. It's hard to see, isn't it?
DeleteEven with the sore arm and low grade fever I'd consider my side effects to the new Covid vaccine fairly mild. I still consider it a worthy trade-off and feel safer getting it. :)
Oh wow I didn't know it wasn't free either! Good to know, I need to schedule mine soon, and the kids'! I am very sorry about your sister-in-law, but glad you were able to see her, too. And looks like you had a pretty great reading 2 weeks, too! Glad you guys are getting fall. We might be here, too? It was very hot, mid-80s, all week, but now it seems to be a bit more temperate, fingers crossed for us both!
ReplyDeleteShannon - Thanks. Yeah, it was hard seeing her health so compromised but we still had a great visit. As for the Covid vaccines, apparently they can still be gotten for free if the pharmacy participates in the CDC's Bridge Access Program. I guess a simple phone call could sort that out. Hope we both get some fall weather!!
DeleteSorry to hear your brother in law and sis in law are not doing well.. especially the deterioration of her Parkinson's. It's hard to see vibrant people become shadows of themselves.
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to read Fourth Wing.. everyone is raving about it.
Thanks Hena. It's hard to see my SIL's condition worsen, but I'm so glad we got to spend some time with her.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your sister in law but so glad you got to see them! I've got to get my covid booster but am not looking forward to the side effects. I really enjoyed Fourth Wing and it's not my usual genre so it was a fun surprise. Yes on the bugs going back to the hell they belong! It's so nice going outside without getting swarmed by mosquitos! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - It's hard to see my sister-in-law's health decline, but I am so glad we went up to visit. Fourth Wing definitely isn't my usual genre either, but I love Rebecca Yarros so I knew she'd deliver a great story. :)
DeleteI just lost my grandmother to Parkinson's. It's such an ugly disease. Glad you had a wonderful visit, though. How are you liking Sheridan's book? It sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteAlison - Oh no, that's terrible. I'm so sorry to hear that. Such a cruel disease.
DeleteOn a brighter note, I am loving All the Little Raindrops. I am so hooked!
Sending you all the hugs your way for your sister-in-law, that is such a horrible disease. I'm so thankful that you got to go visit them! And yay for fall weather! We're in the 60s here today, which sounds cold but being up so high in elevation I was in shorts and a tank top playing soccer in our backyard. It feels more like low 80s with how intense the sun feels today eeps.
