The Sunday Post #124

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

The big news this week? We closed on the old house last Tuesday so that sale is in the books. *cue sheer relief* It feels great to have that behind us. We had a super productive day yesterday with the delivery of the stools for the kitchen island, the unpacking of a few more boxes, weeding out some files, and hanging some artwork. Plus, The Husband installed these nifty little things on the kitchen cabinet doors that makes them close softly instead of banging shut. *stops to marvel at the fact that genuine excitement is being felt at soft-closing cabinet doors*

I've signed up for the Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop which is co-hosted by Kim @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. There was a time that I braved the crazy crowds on Black Friday but now I'm all about staying in and enjoying a quiet day at home. And if that can be combined with a bookish giveaway... even better. :) Are you taking part in the giveaway hop?

We stayed in last night and watched Pitch Perfect 3 and all I can say is... meh. As someone who loves the first movie, and truly enjoyed the second one, the third was quite a letdown. There were a few good laughs but it mostly fell flat and often felt ridiculous. *womp womp*

Shatter Me fans: did you see the news?! Kenji is getting his own novella! *YAS!!* I've been wanting something from Kenji's POV since book one and I'm so excited it's finally happening. And the cover... a thing of beauty! The wait until March 5th begins!

Today The Husband is headed to a car show and I'm going to do some organizing in the library and maybe take a little jaunt to T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. And read. Definitely need to make time to read. What's on your agenda today?

WHAT I FINISHED IN THE LAST WEEK:

Not a thing. Very little reading time in the past week.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:
Still reading this one. It's not at all a slow read, and I'm totally enjoying it, just very short on reading time this week. :(

KINDLE BOOKS:
Despite the sorta cringey cover, I was taken in by the synopsis. I've never read anything by Meghan Quinn but this one sounds good and angsty.

AUDIO BOOKS:

I've never read anything by Force but OMG is this woman prolific! According to GoodReads she has something like 120 distinct works. Um, wow. Anyway, the military aspect of this one captured my interest and I pre-ordered the audio version.

I just read this one a couple weeks ago and totally enjoyed it. I happened to hear a snippet of the audio version a couple days ago and fell in love with the narration. It's so perfect! Sometime soon I'll do a re-read but on audio this time.

I listened to the first three books in the Royally series earlier this year and was surprised at how much I loved each one. I used Overdrive to listen the first time but decided I needed to own them myself. Obviously. Plus it's narrated by Andi Arndt and Shane East and they are always perfection.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. You had such a busy day. Ahah, the smalls always bring so happiness. :) I haven't watched Pitch Perfect 3 yet - I was a bit disappointed with the second film. I probably only watch it now if it's on TV.

The cover of Shadow Me is gorgeous! *.*

    Wishes of a good week!

    1. If I see Pitch Perfect 1 or 2 on TV I always stop to watch. Should I come across #3 in the future... I’ll probably keep going. Just wasn’t impressed. *sigh*

  3. YAY for the house stuff! I just watched PP3 yesterday. I agree it was underwhelming. What If It's Us is one I need. Maybe I will go for the audio! Have a great week!

    1. So it’s not just me with PP3. It just wasn’t that funny. And the whole plot just seemed ridiculous. THey should have stopped at #2.

    1. Same here, Samantha! The first two movies were genuinely funny. The third just fell flat. They should have stopped after #2. Blah.

  7. I am with you on Pitch Perfect 3 it was meh and yet I also loved the first two! Now thank you for the heads up about Kenji's book!!! I did not write a Sunday Post as I binge read the whole weekend. Oh but one recommendation: Go watch A Star is Born with Bradley Cooper and lady gaga. It was brilliant!

    1. Ha! So it wasn’t just me with Pitch Perfect 3. My husband even brought it up again last night... about what a disappointment it was. We were actually planning on going out to see A Star Is Born Saturday night but decided to stay home and watch PP3 instead. Bad move! LOL Forsaking a Sunday Post in order to binge read makes perfect sense to me! :)

  8. Congratulations on the closing! Now you can focus all your energy on your new home. Kenji is totally worthy of his own book. I am really hoping his love match works out, because he's fabulous, and I want him to get an HEA. Hope the car show was fun (and that you get some reading time, because I want to know what you thought of December!!!!)

    1. Thanks Sam! It’s so good to have that behind us now. And you’re right - now I can concentrate fully on getting the new house unpacked, decorated and settled. I am so excited for Kenji’s book! Which reminds me I need to pick up Restore Me soon. And I’m trying so hard to finish up December! I read all during lunch today and made it to 75%. Work is totally cutting into my reading time. LOL

  9. East and West -- haha! I swear they sounded almost exactly the same! I really love that series and hope to own the audio versions myself one day, but for now I'll be happy getting the physical copies for my shelves.

Softly closing cabinets are awesome! The kids bang ours closed all the time, and it's just become a normal thing, lol.

I don't leave my house on Black Friday. I've never been a fan of large crowds, and people go insane for items that are usually on sale all the time anyways. I remember working in retail and dreading Black Friday. We would just move our "on sale" stuff to the front (things that have been on sale forever), and people would go nuts trying to buy them. It's insanity! Staying home with a book, or taking a trip to the playground, is much safer.

    1. You mixing up Steve West and Shane East still cracks me up. LOL
I am still kinda obsessed with the soft-closing cabinets. :)
Isn’t that crazy that the deals on Black Friday are usually the same old sales and yet all of sudden people are willing to camp out for them, wait in line for them, and come to blows over them? It’s ridiculous! I’m with you, I’ll stay home with a good book.

  12. Yaay I'm so happy that you closed. Now you can focus on the new and pretty house now! :)

I watched Pitch Perfect 2 and it was not my cup of tea so I figured that I wouldn't like the third one. Sorry that it disappointed.

    2. Good to know because I was sitting here thinking, Matt... Matt... do I even know a Matt? LOL

I really loved PP1. PP2 not as much but it was still okay. You did well by skipping PP3. It doesn’t even come close to the first one. Blah.

  13. I think I heard about Kenji's novella awhile ago and I'm STOKED. He's my favorite character compared to all the others so I'm super excited to take a peek in his brain.

I think I watched the second Pitch Perfect but don't remember doing so. 😂 Sorry to hear the third wasn't as good as you hoped, but from the previews, I don't blame you.

    Congrats on closing the deal!

    1. Getting Kenji’s POV will be so much fun! I expect lots of laughs... and hopefully some romance in his future. :)

I skipped Pitch Perfect 3 at the theaters and now I wish I’d skipped on cable, too. Ha!

  18. Isn't it funny the things that excite us as we get older? LOL I went to TJ Maxx yesterday and found a cute utensil holder for my kitchen.

Oh, man. That cover for Shadow Me IS stunning!

    1. LOL Yes! What makes us happy certainly changes over the years. Can you imagine if someone told you as a teenage that one day you’d get excited over a utensil holder? :)

I’m loving that cover for Shadow Me!!

  19. Congrats on getting the house sold! And on the quiet cabinets. My kitchen drawers have "brakes" on them so they don't slam shut. I love them! ;) I hope you enjoyed your Sunday and got lots of good reading time. I was in the PNW last week with my son doing a final round of college visits. It was sunny there and we came home to cold and snow. But there was a day of sitting by the fire reading so... not all bad. ;) I'm happy dancing over Shadow Me! Have a great week, Tanya!

Brakes on the drawers? I sense another project for The Husband coming up. LOL
Cold and snow... oh my gosh, that is so bizarre to me at this time of year. Yesterday it was 90 here!
