Top Ten Tuesday: Rainy Day Reads

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic:
Rainy Day Reads

This week's topic is pretty subjective and I'm interested to see what others consider a rainy day read. For me, it's basically the antithesis of a beach read. The opposite of light and fluffy. Something that is angsty or dramatic - or just a story that is so immersive and compelling you don't want to put it down. Here are ten that fit that bill for me:

What do you consider a rainy day read?

  1. Great list! I really want to give Taylor Jenkins Reid a try this year, I've heard such good things about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six.

    1. I highly recommend Taylor Jenkins Reid. I've read 4 or 5 by her now and have loved them all. Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones are the real stand-outs!

    1. It was a good one, Brooke, but plenty angsty. Save it for when you *don't* want light and fluffy. LOL

  4. I haven't read any of the books listed here. I've got some in my TBR pile though so I'll have to check them out. Mostly, I have the Hoover books. I'm sure they're great, thanks for sharing Tanya!

    1. I think Ugly Love was one of the first I read from Hoover and it was plenty angsty. Verity was something else entirely. Crazy!

    1. Your grief books don't fall into light and fluffy, do they? Or are they light and fluffy because they have a hopeful ending? I'm genuinely curious.

  7. Hi Tanya! I'm back to stalking your blog :D For me it's a mix of crime fiction and a light read, complete opposites LOL. I totally loved Verity! So good! And I need to pick up Daisy Jones.

    1. Yay! Great to see you around again, Gen! We do go for opposites when it comes to rainy day reads. Ha! Wasn't Verity great? But completely messed with my mind!

  8. Daisy Jones made my list this week too. Actually Evelyn Hugo did too. I love the way TJR's books just suck me in and make me completely forget about the outside world.

    1. Well, I certainly don't choose what I read based on the weather... LOL But these are what came to mind so I just went with it. :)

  10. These would be my idea of a rainy day read too, and I need to check out three of them: Daisy Jones, Verity, and Watching You.

  11. I haven't read any of these, but there's lots on my list. I definitely agree with the opposite of a beach read.

    1. Yeah, for some reason I just don't think of light and fluffy when I think of a rainy day.

  12. Oh, how interesting--I love seeing your definition of what a rainy day read means to you. I never really thought about it, but I guess for me a rainy day read would be the type of book that draws you in, where you could read it all in one sitting.

    1. Oh, I'm so excited for you to read it, Tracy! I kind of wish I could read it again for the first time. It was so atmospheric and started to mess with my mind!

  14. I still need to read all of these, haha. I don't really choose books based on the weather. I'll read anything in the rain! It's usually whatever I'm already reading, because I don't seek out specific types of books when the weather is a certain way.

  16. I think a good thriller is a good rainy day read. It might add something to the spookiness of the book. Instead of maybe a beach read. I usually just read what I have started no matter the weather.
