On the eve of her thirtieth birthday, sports agent Bess Beringer is ready to make some changes. Armed with a five-year plan—indexed and color coded—she’ll tackle her personal life with the same zeal that she brings to her successful agency.
A big, tall, ripped hunk of hockey player who’s just been traded to the Brooklyn Bruisers is not a part of that plan. Mark “Tank” Tankiewicz has a lot of baggage. He’s a ride-or-die loner with a bad reputation. He’s on the rebound. He’s also the sexiest thing on two legs, and for some crazy reason it’s Bess that he wants.
She knows better. But then she falls stupid in love with him anyway. And for a while it seems like maybe he’ll do the same.
Until she asks him for the one thing he can never give her…

My love for all things Sarina Bowen isn’t exactly a
secret so it should come as no surprise that I jumped at the chance to read an
arc of Sure Shot. And it was an utter delight. Bowen is positively golden when
it comes to creating genuinely likable characters that feel like people I want
to know. Whether it’s the women that I would love to call my friends, or the
guys that would be great to hang out with, I always fall hard for her
characters. And Bess and Tank were no exception.
"My motto is simple. In any situation I just ask myself, what can I get away with? And then I do that."
At age 30, Bess has launched her own sports management
agency and is a success by any standards. Now she’s ready to tackle her
personal life and has a five year plan in place. Enter Mark “Tank” Tankiewicz,
a face from her past and the man who has always remained her ideal. But she has
a hard rule: she doesn’t date players. Plus, Mark is getting a divorce and
being someone’s rebound is not part
of her five year plan.
Things are not going well for Tank. His divorce is
imminent and now he’s been traded from Dallas to Brooklyn. The only bright spot
is seeing Bess Beringer again. Nine years ago their chemistry was off the
charts and they had an under-the-radar affair for several months until Bess
walked away with barely an explanation. It only takes a moment to realize the
chemistry is still there and he’s ready to pick up where they left off and
enjoy some friends with benefits action again. Because he’s definitely not getting serious with
anyone again.
"Maybe you don't like my terminology But you sure as hell like me." And then, just to prove the point, the asshole kisses me. "Even if you're not willing to say so. Even if it's unexpected." He kisses me again. "And even if it fucks up your five-year plan."
This sounds like a brilliant read Tanya and I love that it sounds pretty low on relationship drama as well, it's always something that irks me with romances, why don't couples talk to one another? I think having a history makes for a really charming read, I like when characters are already familiar with one another. I haven't read anything by Sarina Bowen as yet but have a few books on my Kindle that I'll be moving up my TBR. So glad you enjoyed this one, lovely review!
ReplyDeleteLack of communication is a major pet peeve of mine when it comes to romance novels. That definitely wasn't an issue here and I loved that. :)
DeleteI like the sound of this book and great review!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy :)
Delete*High five* I'm exactly the same with all things Sarina Bowen. I just can't get enough of her books. I loved this one. Tank was just... I wanted to squeeze him! Really great review!
ReplyDeleteTank was so great! :)
DeleteI know you love this series, so I'm glad to see this one was another hit!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ethan. It helps that Sarina Bowen is so consistently awesome. :)
DeleteI really like the sounds of these two! Great review!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenea. Both characters were so likable.
DeleteI think I have yet to read one of her books ): I really need to give this author a shot, her characters sound so good.
ReplyDeleteShe's really one of my go-to authors. :)
DeleteSome times her books can be pretty intense (in a good way) and I'm just not in that frame of mind right now but this sounds like a great healthy relationship.
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
It really was a healthy relationship. They were unselfish and they actually talked. Imagine that. :)
DeleteI need to meet Tank! I have no idea, when I will get to this book, because I want to read them in order, and have only read Broolynaire. However, I do own the other three books in the series, so there is hope. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI am usually a total stickler for reading series in order. Even just companion series. But for some reason I dove into this one out f order and didn't mind. (Well, not too much.) I'll definitely be back-tracking, though!
DeleteThis sounds brilliant, everyone is reviewing this and everyone is making me want to read this ASAP. They both sound like brilliant characters I want to get to know. I want to see how their romance will work so much.
ReplyDeleteThey were such likable characters and it made it easy to pull for them.
DeleteWasn't this great! I just loved Bess and Tank and thought that they were perfect together. I do agree that the subplot with Bess's mentor was very well done and I really appreciated the epilogue. I am glad you enjoyed this one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole! Bess and Tank really were so perfect together. :)
DeleteStill haven't read anything by Bowen and I own so many of her books, it's ridiculous. Must get to them! This sounds like another one I'd enjoy and I'm glad it didn't disappoint!
ReplyDeleteWhen you're in the mood for contemporary romance, she's a good one, Nicci!
DeleteLovely review. I love seeing a couple have such ease around each other, it feels so much more natural. I can't wait to continue with this series.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll love it, Renee!
DeleteBess and Tank sound like wonderful characters. I enjoy stories were pasta traumas are dealt with realistically and we get to see character growth. There is something to be said for the ease of a relationship where a couple has a past, and already know each other well. I love when you have an author you can go to, and know that they will deliver characters that you'll love. Wonderful Review Tanya!
ReplyDeleteLindy@ A Bookish Escape
Totally agree, Lindy. I think that's why I enjoy the second-chance romance trope so much.
