The Sunday Post #207

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Week 7 of self-isolation is behind me. The work from home order hasn't been lifted but my state is pushing hard to reopen. The beaches are open (*insert eye roll*), restaurants are reopening at 25% capacity, and starting tomorrow hair and nail salons are allowed to reopen, with restrictions, because those are so essential (*insert more eye rolling*). It seems way too soon but our governor is pushing hard. I won't be among the ones rushing back out into the world any time soon.
  • A couple goodies arrived this week that made me happy. I had pre-ordered a Book Beau back in mid-March and it came this week. The pattern is called "Bookish Babe" and it's so cute. I also ordered a couple cases for my markers because putting each marker back into the slots of the cases they were packaged in was driving me crazy. One holds my Staedtler Fineliners and the other is for my Crayola Supertips. Love the new organization. :)

  • I loaned my mom Colleen Hoover's Regretting You and for the first 100 pages she kept threatening to quit it. According to her nothing but bad things were happening. She texted me last night when she finished it and I just had to laugh. My 75 year old mom commenting on the teenage love interest was too funny. :)
  • I attended an online book event Monday night that was so much fun. Jennifer Weiner did a live stream with Tattered Cover bookstore to talk about her new release, which happens to be what I'm reading right now. I loved hearing her talk about her inspiration for the book and characters, her process in writing the book, and the research she did. She was so personable and one of those people I would love to sit down and chat with.
  • This week's 80's music fix: Men Without Hats was known as a one hit wonder for The Safety Dance but I always liked this (very) minor hit even better.

  1. I actually know your song this week! I though it was a hit, but Safety Dance was definitely bigger. I agree with your mother , Hoover's stories are exhausting, but now she can say she's been CoHoed

    1. LOL "Been CoHoed." I like that. I think this is the third or fourth she's read by Colleen and she does this every time. She's convinced that CoHo is a sadist or something with the way she tortures her readers. Ha!

  2. I want to have a chat with Jennifer too. Your mom is too cute. Stay well.

    1. She seems like such an interesting/intelligent person. I'd love a chance to talk with her. :)

  3. Our parks and golf courses are open (at 50% capacity), and the governor is hinting that the beaches may open by Memorial Day. We'll see! I feel like the last place I would want to go right now is a hair or nail salon - I mean, that's a lot of physical contact!

    1. That's my thought, too, Angela. Hair and nail salons have up-close, hands-on contact. And I won't be doing that for a long while!

  4. Okay, the teleporting meme has me laughing. Love it! My state is slowly opening things up...starting May 15th. I think they are doing what they can to limit how many people can be in places, but we'll see how it goes. I'm definitely not planning on really doing much different for awhile! I'm so curious about Big Summer - and the virtual event sounds like such fun!

    1. It was so fun to attend the virtual book event. It's nice to still be able to enjoy author events... just in a different way.

  5. I remember this song! It is such a fun song. I really think that everyone is in too big of a hurry to get out in the world. I am planning to stay home as much as I can for a long time. I am glad you are still able to work from home. I hope you have a great week, Tanya!

    1. I'm with you, Carole. I will continue to stay safely at home for as long as possible. It just seems smarter.

  6. Oh that just made me laugh so hard. I miss teleporting too 😂.

I want things to go back to normal SO BADLY. and still, I hate that TX is moving so fast. We're in phase 2 already, even though our numbers keep going up since they announced phase 1. Announced it, not actually started it. I think we'll pay for the rush worse in the long run.

Have a great week and stay safe!

    1. Exactly, Berls. I'd love for things to reopen, but not when it's so early on and will likely lead to a spike in infections. I mean, just... why? Err on the side of caution. *sigh*

  7. I'm with you on the eye-rolling. We are going out any more than we must. Yay for your pretty new organization items.

    Take care and happy reading!

  8. I wish my mom would read too Tanya! I only had my dad so not exactly reading romance LOL. Now though I have my kids ;-) What do you think of Jennifer's book so far?

    1. I would have been super impressed if your dad had been a romance reader. :) Although that could have been awkward. LOL

I just finished Big Summer this afternoon. Went in a direction I totally was not expecting but once I shifted my expectations I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  9. I just got the audio of Big Summer, so I'm really looking forward to it. I love that you and your mom are able to share books like that! My mom and I share a love for reading, but our genre preferences are too different for us to read the same books lol.

    1. I can't wait to see what you think of Big Summer, Ethan! I just finished it this afternoon.

  10. I've been frustrated with the reopenings as well. At least here things are going VERY slowly. No haircuts for us (and I prefer it that way).

    Love your new Book Beau!

  11. That's so cool that your mom and you enjoyed the same book. And I'm with you on the reopenings. I think things are happening way too soon and I won't be rushing out when I don't need to either. It amazes me what is "essential" now. lol

Oh my gosh i love that song! Thank you :)

    1. It's odd that practically every comment I see online remarks that it's too soon to reopen. So it's not "the people" pushing for it, and it's definitely not the medical experts, it's the politicians who are more concerned about the economy. *sigh* And oh yeah, when did nail salons become "essential?" *groan*

Love Pop Goes the World! An oldie but a goodie. :)

  12. Things are opening here too, and I am like "good luck everyone. I'm staying home". I get needing to start the economy again, but I'm not sure how many people will actual go. Although, based on a scroll through FB, a lot of people are planning excursions....

    1. Right? I mean, I get it, too, about the economy but it's like, can we take care of human lives before the economy? Sheesh.

  13. Headstrong LIke Us. Sigh. I loved that one. I'm so happy we get another in that series next month.
We're on Week 9 here. Our beaches are still closed -- I don't live close to them anyways. We're starting to slowly open here in WA.

  14. Yeah, getting back to "normal" is going to be tricky and not the same until there's a vaccine, IMO.

You're mom's reactions to Regretting You are priceless! I loved that story soooo much! Probably my favorite CoHo to date. Yes, Miller was the best boyfriend! :)

    1. I agree, Rachel. Only a vaccine will give me true peace of mind (or close enough to it) and from what I read that's a year out at best.

I was laughing so hard at my mom's texts while she read Regretting You. I kept telling her, "You know it's Colleen Hoover, you know things are going to happen, just stick with it!" LOL

  15. Your mom! That's so funny. I've gotten my MIL to read a few YA's but for the most part she's a snob and considers them light reads for when she doesn't want to read *real* books. lol

I'm glad I don't live in FL during this. WA and nearby OR are taking a more measured approach. However, people are over it and opening things anyway. We had a woman cut the tape to a playground and promise kids cotton candy if they showed up. And, of course,t hey did.

I would feel better about reopening (we can't stay home forever) if people wore masks, there was consistent testing and contact tracing - which is what the stay at home order was supposed to set us up to accomplish.

    1. My mom isn't a YA reader but she did kind of accidentally pick up several by Sarah Dessen a while back and read several of hers in a row. It cracked me up.

I wish FL would take a page from CA and the NW but Desantis is pushing hard for the reopening. Such a moron. And OMG, the lady opening up the park and enticing the kids? What the hell?!

  16. Florida is DESPERATE to re-open. I hope you all stay safe!

I am loving all of these virtual author events. I've been keeping an eye on Instagram for when some of my faves randomly go live.

    1. Right? It's like the governor is making it glaringly obvious that the economy comes before public health. Gah!

I love that we're still able to take part in author/book events, just in a different way.

  18. Yes, I find myself eye-rolling at the politicians and protesters so much these days. Reopening some of the things they're reopening just feels so selfish and I'm really worried for all of our seniors and other vulnerable people.

That's so cute that your mom was texting you about Hoover book! I love talking to my mom about books.

That Jennifer Weiner event sounds great. I really enjoyed Big Summer so I'd love to hear her talk about it, especially since it's a bit different from what I'm used to reading from her.

    1. Same here, Suzanne. Everyone seems determined to "return to normal" so fast. :(

I think the event with Jennifer Weiner is available for viewing at The Tattered Cover's YouTube page if you still wanted to view it. I think this is the correct link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF4H7f-krk4

    1. Exactly, Tracy! Haircuts and manicures are NOT essential. And they can surely wait. Like you said, if we're staying at home (where we should be), who's gong to care, anyway?

  20. I love all of your bookish goodies! I love having everything organized too. How fun to get to discuss books with your mom. I enjoy sharing books with my mom, and use to with my grandma as well. It's a lot of fun bonding over authors and favorite reads. I really loved All I Ask and can't wait to see what you think of it. I'm nervous about things starting to reopen, but am glad that it's being done in slow phases where I live. Author events are so much fun, and it's awesome that the focus was on the book you just read :)

  22. Love that your mom was reading some Colleen Hoover, glad she enjoyed it in the end. I'm confused by what your state has deemed essential, though. Salons, really? I mean, I know I want a haircut it's looking a bit crazy right now, but is it essential? Not so much. I know we need to get back out and try and get the economy going again, but I do question if politicians have thought it all through.

    1. I know... salons. Ridiculous, isn't it? And FL isn't the only state doing that. I just saw an Instagram post from a friend in Missouri who went to a nail salon yesterday. It boggles my mind. These things can wait!
