The Sunday Post #262 | October 3, 2021

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

My Fall Weather Watch continues. And is still producing no results. It stayed in the mid/upper 80's all week - with more to come. Woe is me.

Thursday night I heard a loud boom just after I went to bed. So loud it felt like it shook the house. The next morning I learned that it was actually the SpaceX Dragon Capsule returning to earth and breaking the sound barrier. Apparently it could be seen and heard in parts of Florida and even into south Georgia. Pretty cool!

Thursday was my younger nephew's birthday. Um, how is it possible he is now 23? Ack! He is such a great guy. He'll graduate from college in December, he's already working a full-time internship in his field (while balancing his classes), is president of his university surf team, has a great girlfriend, and has always been so independent and such a go-getter.

Tomorrow is my sister's birthday (mom to Jackson) and would have been my dad's birthday. I always thought it was so great that they shared a birthday. October 4th was always a big deal in my family as we celebrated them both together. Tammy (my sister) told me she plans to bake our dad's favorite cake tomorrow. I know her birthday is now kind of bittersweet for her since it's no longer a shared celebration.

My company is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness this month and I am LOVING the nod to Mean Girls. 😁 Now to make sure I have some pink in my closet. #WednesdaysWeWearPink

This week's 80's music fix is Perfect Way (1985) by Scritti Politti. I remember my younger sister and I blasting this one loudly anytime our parents weren't home. :) Enjoy!

  1. *crying* ((HUGS)) to you all. That is kind of bittersweet, but I thought it was beautiful that your sister will make dad's favorite cake. That's wild about the sonic boom. I had no idea that happened from way up here. Right now, it's in the 50s but is supposed to be in the 80s this afternoon - WHY!

    1. Thanks Sam. *sad smile* It is bittersweet and I know it's even more so for my sister.

Wow, in the 80's there, too! Is that normal for October! I would have though by now it would be cooler up there.

    1. Yeah, sad but true. :) Fall in Florida is always very warm to hot. We're almost always running the AC at Thanksgiving. :)

  4. Hope everyone had a happy birthday. Sorry it's a bittersweet occasion with your dad being gone!

We were back in the 90's this last week, so I feel your pain! Somehow the leaves are starting to change still, though. I think it's because we go from 90s down into the high 50s low 60s. Where I live in Southern California is basically a desert so we get that wide spread of temps. I laughed at that random because it's the same for us!

    1. Thanks Rachel. It's been three years since my dad passed but birthdays and holidays are still a bit difficult.

Wow, that's quite a variance between your highs and lows! It's will be quite a while before we're seeing lows like that.

  6. That capsule must have made such a noise!! And happy birthday to your nephew (he seems to be amazing!) and to your sister even if it's bittersweet!

  7. That would have been cool to hear! Although, I might have been a little freaked out not knowing what it was. Around here we probably would have thought Mt. Rainier blew or something! Haha! Happy birthday to all of those in your family.

    1. Yeah, it was crazy to hear such a loud, house-shaking noise late at night!

  8. #WednesdaysWeWearPink :)

That is wild about the capsule! And I'll try to send you some fall weather. It's been 70's here during the days and getting down into the 50's at night- really nice. Hope it lasts...

I hope the Lisa Jewell is good- I'm a little behind on her books.

  9. We heard a Space X boom a couple weeks ago when the civilians were on their way back and it was crazy! We had no idea what it was!

  10. I would have been very startled to hear the sonic boom if I wasn't expecting it. Crazy! I love that your sister is making your dad's favorite cake on their shared day. It finally feels like fall today and I hope the weather stays this way for a bit. Have a great week and happy reading!

  11. We're getting beautiful fall weather right now. With some rain but we do need it.

We used to go out in our driveway for the space launches. It's kind of cool to be able to do that.

  12. I just love it when companies especially your own, recognize Breast Cancer, cancer really kills so many out there. I hope you get some cooler temps soon, I hated it when I lived in the south not getting a fall season. Maybe decorate your house with everything fall and then you can pretend its fall outside haha

    1. Now that’s a good idea! And coincidentally, just tonight my husband offered to get the fall decor out of the attic. 😊

  14. I hope you'll get some fall weather soon. We had a few days of cooler weather which I loved, but then the temps jumped right back up to near 90 again so we don't seem to be quite there yet either. I hope you're enjoying the Lisa Jewell book. :)

  15. After a brief tease of cooler weather, we've had mostly days in the upper 80s here too. We did get some pumpkins and decorate the house for halloween, so I'm willing the fall weather to come and stay for a while haha.

  16. I'm so glad we have cooled down a bit, 70s-80s. We could use a bit more rain and may get a bit more this week. Maybe.

October 4th was my dad's birthday. He would have been 107 this year. He survived several heart attacks and a stroke but eventually his heart gave out. He's been gone awhile but we were very close. My mom was younger by 14 years but they were older parents, closer in age to my friend's grandparents.

  18. We saw on the news that some people even here in Missouri were able to see the streak of the capsule returning, so that was cool! You got some good books there. Your nephew looks and sounds like a great guy! I love when we get to see family these days after a year with being careful. Have a great week, and thanks for visiting my post earlier!

  19. How cool the reentry could be heard so far out. It is pretty awesome, even if I don't totally agree with the whole rich people going into space efforts, space travel in itself is very awesome. I would definitely struggle with wearing pink for work. I love the colour but turns out I don't really wear colours.

  20. Happy Birthday to your sister and father. My father died 4 years ago and I always feel just a bit more sad on my fathers birthday. Some way it's one of those days that I tend to think about him more...

I'm sure you can celebrate and remember in a beautiful way with the cake your sister is going to make!

  21. My Grandpa's birthday was one week earlier then mine, so since I've been 1 we always celebrate our birthdays together. And he always told everyone he was 1 week younger then me lol. Even when my husband and I lived in the midwest for 3 years I'd always fly home around our birthdays so we could blow out our candles together. The first year he was gone in 2017, I didn't even want to celebrate my birthday. It's hard having those rituals and memories tied into your special day too. Sending all the hugs and love to you and your family, hugs, hugs, hugs!
And that's so amazing your company is doing that for breast cancer! My mom got diagnosed 2 days before I found out I was pregnant with my youngest, who is now 8.5. And every 3 months she goes in for blood work and it comes back cancer free my heart is so happy! I'm always so thankful when companies and organizations recognize October for breast cancer!
