The Sunday Post #263 | October 17, 2021

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

It was such a busy week at the office. By Wednesday I was over it. And by Friday I was ready to drop. It's been a while since I've felt so mentally drained by a work week. My plan for the weekend: as little as possible. :)

I only blog when I feel like it, hence the scarcity of posts over the last week or two. Forcing myself to post when I'm not in the mood sucks every bit of joy out of it for me. I didn't feel like doing a Sunday Post last week, I wasn't feeling the TTT prompt (and next week isn't looking so great, either)... but I did manage a review post on Thursday, so go me. :)

Hockey is back! The 2021-2022 NHL season started this week and I've been so happy to have it back. My Lightning have won one and lost one so not a bad start. (I'm writing this before their game on Saturday night so by the time you read this hopefully they have another one in the Win column.)

Friday night I was having family over for a super casual dinner. They're all fully vaccinated now (woo hoo) and these small gatherings are now possible. But then my mom called and said she couldn't come because she was coming down with a cold. Then my younger sister called and they couldn't come. The dinner was dwindling fast so I just postponed it. The Husband and I went from expecting a gathering of eight, to the two of us grabbing subs from the Publix deli (a grocery store) for dinner. LOL

This week's 80's music fix is... not actually from the 80's. I could have sworn Kiss Them for Me (Siouxsie and the Banshees) came out in 1989 but Google is telling me it's 1991. But it's a great song so I'm going with it. Enjoy!

It was a mixed bag this week: one disappointment, one good, and one fantastic.
I read Down Too Deep by J. Daniels earlier this year and absolutely loved it. So I decided to pick up Four Letter Word and... I couldn't believe it was written by the same author. Man, did I struggle with this one. I started another Kennedy Fox series this week and the first book, Taming Him, was a good one. Loved the lack of unnecessary drama. And then there was The Night She Disappeared. I'm working on my review but I will say that I consider it Jewell's best book to date and it will definitely be among my top picks of the year!

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell - ★★★★★
Taming Him (Bishop Brothers #1) by Kennedy Fox - ★★★★
Four Letter Word (Dirty Deeds #1) by J. Daniels - ★★★

Heard it in a Love Song is one of my most highly anticipated books of the year. (I almost hesitate to say that because it sets up such incredibly high expectations, but it's still true.) I adore Tracey Garvis Graves and this synopsis really grabbed me. I've had the arc for at least four months but I've been holding off, enjoying the anticipation. But the time has come and I'm so happy to be diving in. Page three - what do I see? A character named Tonya. Different spelling, but I'm totally taking it as a good omen. :)

HOW WAS YOUR WEEK?
I'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT!

  1. HOCKEY! I haven't been able to watch any games because they've been happening while I'm at work, but I'll probably catch one this week. I always miss hockey and don't know what to watch during the summer.

  2. Your song this week was one of my jams! Loved Siouxsie! The trains are packed with hockey fans on my commute home in the evening. So, well aware that the season has begun. LOL! I just picked my own TTT topic for this week. I always do that when I don't like the topic because I do enjoy making lists of books. I am doing Bromances. I am curious where that J Daniels book comes chronologically for the author. Is it an earlier work? Later work? Usually authors debuts are fab (because they may have had a long time to work on it, polish it) and then later works are better because they had grown as writers. Sorry you were a bit disappointed.

    1. I think that was the absolute tamest I ever saw Siouxsie look (in that video). I mean, that was *not* her normal look. LOL I wish I was better at coming up with TTT topics on the weeks where I don't like the topic. I have no issue going rogue but then I blank on what to do. Ugh! Four Letter Word was the first in that series, but not the first book from Daniels. This one came out in 2016 and I think her first was published in 2014. But the one I loved, Down Too Deep, was three years later in 2019 and there was a huge difference (to me). I might skip the rest of the series because I'd hate to dislike the others and have that taint my feelings for the whole thing. Down Too Deep was so, so good.

  3. I have never heard that song before, but it's great! I know what you mean about forcing yourself to blog, I took a couple year break before getting back into it. I hope things get better. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks! If I force myself to blog it feels like such a chore. So I just post when I feel like it. It makes all the difference.

  4. Sorry your family was ill this week. Also sorry work was so draining. That is always frustrating! Hopefully you got a lot of nothing done this weekend!

  5. I am sorry that your dinner plans fell apart. Hopefully you can reschedule soon. I have been forcing myself to blog a bit lately. I haven't been so good at forcing myself to blog hop though. I am seriously going to try to cut back on obligations and try to make it fun again. I loved Heard It in a Love Song and think that you are going to enjoy all of the music references. Have a great week!

    1. Heard it in a Love Song isn't quite what I expected, but not in a bad way. I'm just over halfway through and can't wait to read more tonight.

  6. LOL to the drunk elf... yes!!

I'm sorry this week was draining but yay for a relaxing weekend doing nothing. Sounds like the canceled family dinner came at the right time, though I'm sorry your mom wasn't feeling well.

I agree, don't blog if you aren't feeling it!! If you're ever not feeling the TTT prompt, I co-host a pretty laid back tuesday prompt called Tell Me Something Tuesday. It's pretty fun and I enjoy reading everyone's answers :)

Hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks for the heads up about Tell Me Something Tuesday! Sounds like a great alternative to TTT when I'm not feeling the prompts.

  7. I'm definitely a proponent of blogging when you feel like it! It can be difficult to consistently push out posts every week!

  9. Oh I had such a good laugh at the auto correct elf now! Elf on shelf just became elf in the cell.

I also only blog when I can and don't want to force it, then it takes all the joy out of it for sure. TTT is one of my favorite memes, but I don't do it every week, like you say - if I don't feel the vibe, I don't take part. Won't be taking part this week either.

Have a good week and happy reading!

  10. It was a crazy week at work for me too. I found myself just coming home and collapsing on the couch. Luckily, I took off on Monday, so I have a nice little 3 day weekend to enjoy. The cooler weather has arrived here finally, so I'm making all the soups haha. Tomato Basil with grilled cheese happened yesterday, and today I'm roasting a chicken. Tomorrow I'll use the bones to make a giant batch of chicken stock and have plenty in the freezer for the season!

I'm sorry to heart about your dinner! You just never know! Hopefully everyone is feeling better soon and you guys can reconvene. :)

    Love your music pick!

  13. It's funny that you struggled with Four Letter word. That was my first J. Daniels' book and I was in love with her writing from there. But I do think it has matured and gotten better in her more recent books, so that might be why...
Hey, post whenever you feel like it. Just don't leave us! I feel like everyone is disappearing and I hate it!

    1. I don't know if it was the writing style or just the situations, but I felt such a huge difference between book #4 and book #1.

If I don't feel like posting I don't. A year or two ago I took on a much more relaxed approach to blogging and it was a game-changer. I refuse to stress over blogging. LOL

  17. I feel you on the draining work week. Last week pretty much did me in as well. I'm trying to catch up on my blogging and commenting now but I'm still tired, lol. I hope Heard It in a Love Song ends up being a wonderful read for you.

  18. Sometimes you don't feel like blogging. No judgement here, I didn't even have work as an excuse, I just didn't fancy it. Sorry you had to postpone your family gathering, I know how exciting it is to be able to meet up with people but it'll be better when you can all be there.
