The Sunday Post #319 | January 1, 2023

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Hope you had a safe and happy New Year's Eve. I'm never awake at midnight (I'm fine with greeting the new year when I wake up on the 1st each year), but last night the fireworks kept me awake and I was actually reading when the clock struck midnight. Not a bad way to ring in the new year. :)

I was off all week and it was fabulous. Some days I was productive, some days not so much. I've loved the time off and will be a little sad to return to the office on Tuesday.

A few photos from Christmas with the family...

Now the tree is down, all the Christmas décor packed away, and while it was lovely, it also feels good to have the house in order again.

Goodreads has been giving me fits this week. If I click on Home or My Books, I stay logged in. But as soon as I click on a book title it signs me out. So annoying. Get it together, Goodreads.

Nothing from the 80's today, but enjoy this classic from Kenny G (I really love this version).

HOW WAS YOUR WEEK?

  1. A husband who buys you books, a definite keeper. Look at all those pretty pink packages. I bet they looked great under the tree. It is hard going back to work after a good stretch off. At least it's only a four day week, right? Now the week after, will be my first full week since September (I think?) I guess it's not so bad since I am still work from home. Happy New Year, Tanya!

    1. Sam - So true. Easing back in with a 4 day week should help. Hope going back to full weeks isn’t too hard of an adjustment. At least you’re still working from home! :)

    1. Renee - It’s not like I’m on Goodreads constantly - just to track my reading - but even so, it’s annoying. Aw, thanks for the kind words. You are the sweetest! :)

  4. I don't know what is going on with Goodreads the past couple weeks. Often I try to find a book and it says search is not working. Check back later. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas. Happy New Year!

    1. Bonnie - I really appreciate Goodreads for tracking and searching but there always seems to be glitches with their system. Hope it clears up for you soon!

  5. Happy New Year! I watched Miley Cyrus and Dolly PArton's New Years bash and it was okay, but she had David Byrne of Talking Heads and that was awesome.

Nice pics! I'm kinda looking forward to taking everything down too.

    1. Greg - I missed Miley and Dolly ion NYE but caught some clips the next day. There were some great performances!

  6. I was also up until midnight reading, my family get together had been over much earlier because of kids we did our countdown at 8:30 pm, lol. But there was a ton of fireworks and I'm pretty sure some guns even with all the warnings about not shooting into the air on the news. Happy new year!

  7. It's great you had such a nice relaxing holiday break and enjoyed some time with family. Goodreads was doing that to me a few months ago and now it's been fine. Weird. Happy New Year and happy reading, Tanya!

    1. Anne - Hopefully it was a temporary glitch at Goodreads. I haven't noticed it the last day or two.

  8. I was having problems with goodreads this week as well. I really am getting super annoyed with the site. But, I'm not totally in love with storygraph either. Happy new year!

    1. Samantha - I haven't tried Storygraph. I'd been with Goodreads since 2007 and have no desire to leave, but when it's glitchy it sure is annoying.

  9. Happy New Year! We weren't planning on staying up until midnight, but the fireworks were freaking my dog out. I don't think I got to bed until 1:30. I'm TIRED today! Goodreads has done that to me. I can usually do the back arrow and then try again and it seems to work. It is frustrating, though! I hope you love Wait for It. I did.

    1. Deanna - I get it! I was tired and sluggish on the first, too, and even took a short nap in the afternoon. I really enjoyed Wait for It by Zapata. Not as much as some of her others, but now we're just talking about degrees of good. :)

  10. Happy New Year! Your week sounds similar to mine - I enjoyed being off and was productive some days, other days not so much. But honestly, resting is SUPER productive for me as I rarely do it.

I hope you have a great week, even with returning to work on the 3rd. Not looking forward to it either lol

  11. Happy New Year!
My husband wont let me tear down the Christmas decorations until the 3rd/4th Jan and it drives me nuts! By about the 27th/28th Dec I'm twitching with the need to restore order and pack it all away until next year, lol. Needless to say, I'm jealous you've got yours down already.

I'm back to work on the 4th and I've been off since the 16th Dec... I've had some productive days but I've mostly existed as a sloth. I'm not sorry, lol. You can't be productive all the time!

    1. Nicci - I think I'd being pulling my hair out if the Christmas decor was still up on the 4th of January. Gah! I totally enjoy it all while it's out, but when Christmas is done I want my house back in order.

I hope heading back to work this week wasn't too painful! :)

  13. I always go to bed before midnight but I know that the neighbors will wake me up with fireworks. I love the photos from your holiday so thanks for sharing those! Goodreads has been so annoying! I hope that they figure out the problem very soon. I enjoyed Dark Room Etiquette so I will be eager to see what rating you end up going with. Have a great week!

  15. I've had the same problems with Goodreads lately too! Yes, I'm totally the go to bed and welcome the new year in the morning kind of girl, as well. I went to bed at like 10 last night, but then someone bright person was driving down the street and was honking the horn. Scared the heck out of me and the hubby because were totally out of it, in a deep sleep. Didn't know what was going on and then it dawned on me that it was midnight *sigh*.

I read a review on Dark Room Etiquette and decided it was not for me. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Yay for having the week off and love the family photos! Hope you have a more restful time at work than previously. I know you've had some hectic weeks! Hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday, Tanya! :)

    1. Rachel - Fireworks are bad enough but honking horns, too? Ugh.

I loved Robin Roe's A List of Cages so even though I longer read YA, I was curious about Dark Room Etiquette. I'm still conflicted and deciding how I feel about it. It definitely elicited some emotions!

  16. I usually just about manage to see in the New Year. I've got a bit of a tadition going of spending it at my mom's watching rubbish TV. We always watch Jools Holland's Hootenanny on TV and this year my brother was round as well, he was shocked to discover it was not in fact recorded live. My christmas tree came down today and it feels a little empty in the living room now but I suppose I'll be fresh for the return to work. I remember reading Wait For It and enjoying it so I hope the audio is good.

  19. We started off the new year with a power outtage because of all the snow we got...12 hours without electricity. What a stellar start to 2023. I hope it's not a sign of things to come. ;D Happy New Year!

  23. I'm such a night person that I'm always up way to late (early). I didn't do much for NYE, though. I rang in the new year with my animals on Animal Crossing, lol. I'm sorry the fireworks kept you awake. That would be annoying. I hope you have a great reading year in 2023!

  25. Happy New Year! From the photos, it looks like you had a wonderful holiday! We got all of the indoor decorations down this week. My poor tree was so dried out! It has been raining all weekend, so the outdoor lights will have to wait for some sunshine filled days. I'm not about to climb onto my wet roof haha.
