From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

MY THOUGHTS

Jillian was just eight years old when Brock came into her life. Taken under her father's wing as a troubled fourteen year old boy, Brock seemed like the only one to really see Jillian. She became his shadow as they became best friends. As Jillian matured she waited for the day that Brock would see her as more than a little sister or a friend. Just when she was certain that day had finally come, tragedy strikes and changes Jillian forever.

Six years have passed and Jillian is living a quiet life, one with out risks - and without Brock. All her dreams and goals were put on hold or set aside six years ago but she's finally ready to make a fresh start. Quitting her boring job at a insurance company and taking a position at Lima Academy, a successful MMA training facility owned by her father, is a step in the right direction. The Academy is her father's legacy and has always been a part of her life. What she doesn't expect is Brock Mitchell, now the general manager at the Academy, back in her life. Not only is he now her boss but he also seems determined to regain the friendship that was abandoned years ago. Friendship... and even more.

It was so easy to feel for Jillian. Jennifer L. Armentrout is a master at creating down to earth, relatable characters and Jillian was no exception. Her background was revealed slowly with flashbacks interspersed throughout the first half of the book and it was the perfect way to get to know Jillian while slowly learning what the event was in the past that made her so self-conscious and intent on keeping others at arm's length.

Brock was a total alpha force to be reckoned with and it was impossible not to fall for his cockiness and charm - and his won't-take-no-for-an-answer attitude when it came to Jillian. Even though he'd achieved great success as an MMA fighter, he had his own troubled past to contend with. I loved the respect and loyalty he had for Jillian's father and the confidence and belief he had in Jillian.

"You have a fire in you, Brock. You were determined to do more than survive,
but to make something out of your life. To succeed and - "

"And you don't think you have that?" His eyes searched mine. "After what you've
survived and where you stand today?"

The chemistry between these two was off the charts and I loved watching as they came together. Jillian had a lot to work through considering her past had left scars both physical and emotional and I appreciated her strength as she pushed herself to take chances and really start living again. Whether you have followed this series from the very beginning or choose to read Fire In You as a stand alone novel, you're sure two fall in love with these characters and their story as much as I did.

  2. I have a couple of these books, but not all of them. Is this the type of series that you have to read in order or are they all standalones?

    1. Hey Nicole - they're considered companion novels and I hear everyone say they can be read as stand alones but I disagree. I mean, obviously you can grab any of them and go but I think it's sooo much better to read them in order. Like, right in the first couple pages of this one there are big times spoilers from the previous couple of books. That might not bother some people but it would me - especially if you plan n reading the whole series.

    1. This is such a good series, Brandee. Although I have to admit that Wait For You, the first book, remains my favorite. I'm even doing a reread on audio right now. Cam (from Wait For You) is the ultimate book boyfriend. I mean, a hot, sexy guy who bakes cookies? Yes please! :)
