The Sunday Post #302 | September 11, 2022

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news:  a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

Last Sunday took a turn when my mom tested positive for Covid. Thankfully, she was able to get a prescription for Paxlovid (at 77, she is definitely considered at-risk) and started on that right away. My sisters and I quickly made a schedule so that someone would be available to deliver meals and check on her for the first several days. The Husband and I have also FaceTimed with her, both to check on her and provide a little long-distance contact. Thankfully, it seems her symptoms never progressed past the severe head cold stage so she's been okay at home just treating her symptoms. But I've definitely been worried about her. 😟

To be a four-day work week it was incredibly busy (hence only one blog post this week). I kept hoping to find time to at least write a quick review but it never happened. I was wiped out by the time I left the office each afternoon. By the time the evenings came I was ready to do nothing by decompress. 😵

I love this video of a graduating high school student who snuck in two light sabers. And I love it even more that his principal played along. :)

This week's 80's music fix is Casanova by LeVert, a pop/R&B hit from 1987. This song takes me back to such a specific time and place - the year after high school, going out with friends at night, and cranking this when it came on the car radio. 😁  Enjoy.

21 years ago, our nation was attacked.

Every American felt the blows at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in a field in rural Pennsylvania.  Some lost family, friends, and colleagues, but all Americans shared grief in the aftermath of 9/11.  However, as we grieved, an amazing thing happened.  Hope, resilience, and a sense of national unity lifted us up as a country.

Today, it is more important than ever that we remember the compassion we showed to one another, the resolve we demonstrated to the world, and how, in the face of unfathomable loss, we rose as one unified America.

  3. Oh no, I hate that your mom tested positive for Covid. I am glad that her symptoms weren't any worse than they were. I totally understand what it is like not to have any energy to blog at the end of a hectic day. I hope that next week is less stressful for you.

  6. Today is still such a tough day. I can see the lights from my town. LeVert, wow! You take me back. At the doctor's yesterday, whatever channel they had on played "Tender Love". I was like 13 when I was obsessed with that song. Hope mom is doing well and that she was able to get the treatment. When I gave covid to my family, my dad got that infusion they were doing back then. Though he was asymptomatic, he is immunocompromised. Thankful they found ways to keep the virus sort of under control for some people.

    1. Sam - I know 9/11 is hard for you. You have a connection and proximity to it that so many do not. :(

Oh my goodness, Tender Love at the doctor's office... now there's a throwback. I remember that one well!

  7. Oh, man! I'm sorry your mom has covid. I worry about that with my parents. I'm glad she was able to get some help for it and is doing okay. My kid came down with a stuffy nose yesterday and no other symptoms. We tested her yesterday and today and it was negative, but it still has me stressed a bit. It's either a cold or from the wildfire smoke we've got going right now. I hope your mom is over her illness quickly.

I LOVE that Casanova song! It makes me happy when I hear it.

  8. Oh, I'm so sorry for your mom, but I'm glad her symptoms aren't too bad. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery! Can't believe it's been 21 years since 9/11 - sometimes it still feels like I'm still in high school, watching it on the news.

  9. It really is a weekend of reminiscence. The passing of the Queen is the end of an era and I can't believe 9/11 is 21 years ago. Wow!

I also don't get to blogging as much as I would like to, but at least we are still here and trying our best.

Have a good week ahead and good luck with work!

  14. I'm sorry about your Mom. It seems like there are such extremes with Covid. My Mom had it at 94 and was asymptomatic. I was also very worried. They tested at her nursing home with some regularity. I hope she doesn't have any long-term issues.

  16. So happy to hear your mom didn't have worse symptoms. My sister also got Covid two weeks ago and it was the same for her. Her symptoms lasted for like 10 days, though! She's okay now.

I hear you on being tired. I hoped to get more reading done last week, but between work and chores I was beat.

Can't believe 9/11 was over 20 years ago.

  20. I'm glad your mom is ok. Both my in-laws got it a few weeks ago and both took Paxlovid and they did ok. They got hit hard but mostly with exhaustion. My MIL has several auto immune/pre existing conditions and both are almost 80 so I'm thankful it wasn't worse.

  22. I am so sorry to hear your mom caught COVID. I hope she is feeling better. It seems like every day someone calls in sick at work to report they've got COVID. You described how I've been feeling--work wears me out and although I have the best intentions to get some review or blog writing done, I just don't seem to manage it. I'm so tired and want very little to do with the computer. Hopefully this week will be better for you. I hope you are having a great week and happy reading!
