The Sunday Post #304 | September 25, 2022

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

Last Sunday ended up being a pretty perfect day as far as birthday's go. I had a good breakfast (take-out from Waffle House), I wasn't hungry by lunchtime but I did pick up my free Starbucks drink and grabbed a pumpkin cream cheese muffin (my first pumpkin treat of the season). I puttered around in my library, rearranging books, and I unpacked my order of the Devney Perry Lark Cover special editions (purchased through her Kickstarter campaign). I watched the Jaguars game (my local football team) and they completely shut-out the Colts 24-0, so that was exciting. And, best of all, it rained and stormed almost the entire day which made me incredibly happy.

Monday seemed to continue the birthday goodness when Starbucks served me a hot chai tea latte instead of iced, so they gave me both. I drank my hot chai in the morning, poured my iced chai in an insulated tumbler, and had it after lunch. Winning!

This clip made my day. Between the ages of about 11-13, roller skating was my world. You'd find me at the skating rink every Saturday, and during the week I was skating up and down my driveway at home. :) These guys are awesome and made me want to lace up some skates again... but since it's been 40 years since I skated, probably not the best idea. 😂

Last Sunday I had asked about blogging ahead/scheduling posts vs. blogging on the fly and I was surprised at the comments! I assumed most of you were uber-organized and had posts scheduled weeks in advance and I was the only one furiously drafting posts at the last minute. Ha! Turns out I am far from alone as it seems many of you fly by the seat of your pants just as I do. Glad to know I'm not the only one who struggles to blog in between work and life!

Since my early 80's roller skating days are still on my mind, this week's 80's music fix is You Dropped a Bomb On Me (1982) by The Gap Band. They played this song every single time I was there. I'd never seen the video before today... and the low-budget cheesiness makes me wish I hadn't now. LOL

I received my order of Devney Perry's Lark Cove special editions a little earlier than
expected. These were only available through her Kickstarter campaign and I totally
splurged on the hardcover editions with gold foil and sprayed edges. They are sooo
gorgeous in person and I felt like a kid on Christmas as I unwrapped each one. :)

FOR REVIEW

I received an advance listening copy of A Little Too Late this week and I dove right in.
I love that Sarina Bowen, Devney Perry, and Rebecca Yarros teamed up again for
another trilogy. Those three ladies are among my absolute favorites and they never disappoint.

  2. I am happy to hear your birthday was to your liking. I had to push Stone's book to next week. I have to read some of my library loans, but this is a good. You can mentally prepare me for it. YES! United Skates of America was my place. We also lived on a dead end street in Brooklyn, and all of us roller skated up and down the block with our pompoms on our skates. OH, YEAH! Good times! Those guys are amazing though. I was never that level.

    1. Thanks Sam. I'm struggling a bit with One Last Gift. I don't know if I'm just not in the mood for it or what. I'm still only 30% in or so. United Skates of America... love it! I had my own skates but I was always jealous of the girls who had the pompoms. :)

  3. I'm glad to see the Jags have turned it around. They just needed a better head coach. Here's my Sunday Post: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2022/09/25/sundaypost-precious-memories/

  4. Glad the birthday fun continued! That is always nice. And yes, that video is cringey for sure! But, I think most of the early 80's were cringey so it fits right in!

    1. Samantha - You have a point - most everything in the early 80's was cringey. lol

  5. I think we would all be surprised at how similar we are - whether it's blogging, or exercise, or whatever. We're NEVER the only ones to struggle, to feel stupid, to feel joy or whatever. It's the human condition. It's ALSO the human condition to think we're the only ones feeling that way. This is a good reminder to me too that others are blogging the same way as me. :)

  6. I used to roller skate all the time too, and we lived in New England so winter meant ice skating too. I adored that roller skating video! So cute. I will be reading One Last Gift sometime this week too.

  7. Glad you had a good birthday! I remember roller skating to songs like that, lol. My Chiefs are playing the Colts right now and not doing as good a job as your Jaguars did. Oh well. They're still winning at the moment! Hope you have a good week.

  8. I'm glad it was a great day for your birthday. I used to roller skate once a month with 4-H kids, after that it was sporadic with my daughter once in a while. But I have my own skates. It's probably been 10 years since I skated though. I love those pumpkin cream cheese muffins. Of course, I wouldn't get them any more, but I just pulled a recipe for pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting (gluten free) to make this week.

  9. Happy belated birthday!!! Waffle House is on my bucket list. I know we have them here in Arkansas but it's never worked out for me to go to one. LOL Mmm pumpkin cream cheese muffin!!!!

I grew up in Arizona so rain was a big deal to me and, being that my birthday is in January, I almost always did get some rain on my birthday! Always made me so happy. I'm glad you got a rainy, stormy day on yours!

    Bonus Starbucks is VERY exciting!

I missed the survey last week, but no, I don't schedule any posts, but then I only do a Sunday post so I don't really count. LOL

  10. Glad you had a nice birthday! Oh my gosh roller skating. You'd think it's just like riding a bike, right? You never really forget? Um, not. I went a few years ago and man was that hilarious :(

  13. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY!!! It sounds like you had a fabulous day!
I did a lot of roller skating, but it was late 80's for me. That was the thing to do in elementary school. I don't remember You Dropped a Bomb on Me from that. I more remember it from 80's dance nights at the club when I was 18 and 19. That and we used to play it all the time when we were out on the lake. It's a great song to wakeboard or wakeski to it.
    I hope you love Bowen's book -- I did!

  16. Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a wonderful one! Fun fact, I met my husband at a roller skating rink, lol! That's the 80s for you. He was a way better skater than me, nailing the backwards skate every time. My heart was a-flutter, haha! And yes, I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type of blogger. Glad I'm not alone too!

Those Devney Perry special editions are so pretty! I love the color of the pages. Score on the Starbucks snaphoo! Love the random!
