Sunday Post Meme

The only news here this week is Hurricane Irma. 

Everyone here has been consumed with news reports, forecasts, planning and preparing. For those who don't know, I live in Florida, which is where Hurricane Irma is taking aim next. The latest forecast puts my area slightly more out of range than we were, but we still anticipate feeling the effects Sunday and into Monday. 

We had plans to evacuate about 80 miles to the north, but the hotel where we had reservations called to say that they are evacuating, so... our reservation was cancelled. Oops. Between that and the fact that Irma's path shifted to the west, we decided to stay home. Believe me, if I thought we were in real danger we would leave without a second thought. But I'm not in a flood zone, I'm not under mandatory evacuation orders, and by the time it makes its way to the northern part of the state (where I am) it should have significantly weakened, so we should be okay.

Jill from Kissing Max Holden
I was so impressed with Jill. She was a girl with such a good head on her shoulders. She was going through a lot of changes in her life (dad and stepmom fighting, a new step sibling on the way, her dream of culinary school suddenly in jeopardy) but she never wallowed in self-pity or threw a tantrum. She was usually level headed and determined to make the best of what she was dealt. No drama, no angst. I loved that about her.

Luke from Ready to Run

I had so much respect for Luke. And, truthfully, I think I liked him even better than Jordan, the female main character. Being labeled a "runaway groom" after three weddings that didn't happen, Luke was the subject of a lot of gossip. I loved that he never shared details, refused to 'kiss and tell' about the hows and whys, and instead took all responsibility and allowed people to think what they wanted. He was such a stand-up guy - self-sacrificing and dignified - and that made him an easy choice for my favorite male character of the month.

Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino

I'm starting to think that Carlino is one of those always spot-on authors for me. As in, she just always seems to get it right. Wish You Were Here was the third book I'd read from Carlino and it was another hit. She has a way of introducing characters that feel so real that I can imagine them being my real-life friends. She also has a way of making me completely invested in their lives - so much so that I feel like I'm experiencing their every sadness and joy. She pulled out all the emotional stops with this one. I laughed and swooned and cried (and then cried some more) and was left feeling so hopeful. Wish You Were Here was an easy choice for my best book of the month.

• Back from a mini-getaway to our favorite resort. We were only gone Wednesday thru Friday but it was so perfect and just the downtime I needed. A few days of reading by the pool (or sometimes reading in the pool)... my idea of heaven.

• My leopard print boots arrived! It has to be wrong to love a pair of shoes so much. LOL They're going to have some competition for my affections because I just ordered these pink crushed velvet mules. 💕

  

• Today is my monthly breakfast with my mom and sisters (which I should be getting ready for instead of sitting here writing this post). One of my cousins is joining us this time and I'm so excited to see her. 

• Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur - I don't know who this guy is but I can't get enough of this song lately. 

Only one post this past week. I didn't check my blog or anyone else's while I was on my little getaway. And yesterday, when I planned to do a post and some catching up... I decided to extend my little break and I loved it. :)

This one has plenty of good ratings on GoodReads, but it still seems like it came and went without much fanfare. 

Time Between Us | Tamara Ireland Stone

I rarely ever see anyone mention this duology but I enjoyed Anna and Bennett's unique story so much.

The Summer I Found You | Jolene Perry

#SorryNotSorry if you're sick of me talking about this one, but I'll never stop singing its praises. With only 1,800 ratings on GR, this one is truly a hidden gem that deserves so much more attention. 

The Things You Kiss Goodbye | Leslie Connor

To this day I'm still unsure how I feel about the ending of this one. But even so, it was a moving and emotional coming of age story.

Off the Ice | Julie Cross

This one doesn't necessarily offer up anything new and different, but I totally fell for the characters. With less than 400 GR ratings (how can that be?!) I definitely consider this a hidden gem.

A Girl Named Digit | Annabel Monaghan

This duology is nonstop fun. Math genius Farrah (aka Digit) unwittingly cracks a terror group's code and finds herself working with a hot FBI agent. Loved this one!

Me Since You | Laura Wiess

Powerful, beautiful, emotional, heartbreaking.

The Edge of Juniper | Lora Richardson

This gem totally took me by surprise and does not get the attention it deserves.

Glass Houses | Rachel Caine

I know the series ended several years ago, but even then I don't remember seeing much talk about the Morganville Vampires. I don't typically go for uber long series (this one consists of 15 books) but this was totally addictive. I even got my husband to read them. :)

Audrey, Wait | Robin Benway

Another by Robin Benway. Why does she not get more attention? Maybe that will change with her new release in October. This one was funny and and entertaining and just an all around good read.
