The Sunday Post #42

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

I had an unexpected night out on Friday when I suddenly remembered that we had tickets to see comedian Kathleen Madigan. The show was at 8 PM. I had my last-minute epiphany at 6 PM. Yeah, that was a last minute scramble to dash out of the house, grab some dinner, get downtown, find parking, and get to the venue. It was a fantastic show (I love Kathleen Madigan) and I would have been sooo upset if I hadn't remembered until a day or two later!

This past week I suddenly decided that I'm bored with our master bedroom and want to pretty it up a bit. (Actually, it was watching Sam Schuerman's recent living room and bedroom tours that inspired me.) So I spent much of Saturday shopping at TJ Maxx (love that store for home decor!) and HomeGoods for all kinds of pretties. My duvet is plain white so I'm adding accents in gray and pale pink. I just love that blush color that seems to be everywhere right now. I got pillows and throws and a rug as well as a few items for my home office. But these are my favorites:

Monday, January 23: Monday was my stop on the blog tour for Katie's McGarry's Long Way Home, the third and final book in the Thunder Road series. I adore Katie McGarry and I've loved this series. The book releases on Tuesday, January 31 so there's still time to pre-order your copy and register for the bonus content!

Tuesday, January 24: For Top Ten Tuesday I shared the series that I want to complete or start reading. I loved all the input on which series I should pick up first! It's great to be able to depend on book friends for input on what to read next. 😊

Friday, January 27: In my effort to (one day) get caught up on my book reviews, I shared quick reviews of two contemporary romances on Friday. Back To Us included a realistic look at a Marine with PTSD and Blurred Lines solidified my love of Lauren Layne.

Saturday, January 28: By I can't be the only one excited for the live action Beauty and the Beast movie, right? I mean, Belle has to be the most relatable of all Disney princesses. The girl just wants to be left alone so she can read. 😉 I had fun doing the Beauty and the Beast tag

It pains me to say, but I'm feeling a little slumpy. Ack! This almost never happens but I've set aside the last two books I've tried to read. I got about 30 pages into each and just wasn't feeling it. So for the past couple days I've read nothing. Who am I?! I'm listening to an audio book when I'm in the car but otherwise... nothing. Maybe I need to reread a favorite. Maybe that will snap me out of this?

Finished:
The Selection - Kiera Cass
Rome (AUDIO) - Jay Crownover

Set aside/Abandoned:
Black Box - Cassia Leo
The Bear and the Nightingale - Katherine Arden

Current
Nash (AUDIO) - Jay Crownover

KINDLE BOOKS:
Vein of Love - R. Scarlett
The Pawn - Skye Warren

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
You know I want to hear about it! :)

    1. I never get slumpy! I'm like, wth is going on, because this is so unacceptable! Gah! Anyway, I pre-ordered Infini but who knows when I'll read it because - are you sitting down? - I haven't read Amour Amour yet! So cool that you're using gray and blush, too. And it's funny you mentioned white fur accents because I also bought a white fur rug! :)

  2. I'm not typically a pink girl unless you're talking fuchsia and magenta, but that blush is very pretty.

    1. Ah, you go for the bold and bright pinks. :) I love those, too, but not so much for decorating. Thanks for stopping by, Tiffany!

  3. I have tried to read Nowhere but Here a couple of times and just cannot get into it. Everyone loves the series, and I have enjoyed other Katie McGarry books, so I am going to keep trying!
    Have a great week!

    1. Oh, you're breaking my heart, Samantha! lol But, seriously, not every book is for every person so maybe it's just not a book or series you like. Interesting that you've liked other Katie McGarry books, though. Maybe it'll click when you're in the right mood for it. :)

    1. I love to wander HomeGoods... and was actually at two different ones last Saturday. I have fun piecing things together.
It's not like me to have a reading slump so I'm hoping it ends fast!

  6. Aw slumps are no fun, hope it passes quickly. I hate it when a book just doesn't work and I have no motivation. :) The comedy show sounds fun, glad you remembered the tickets!

    1. Yeah, slumps are the worst. This very rarely happens to me so hopefully it'll pass quickly.

  8. aww I want to decorate my house badly, maybe when hubby goes back to work we can hit our TJ Maxx and Homegoods. I never been into homegoods.
Black Box - Cassia Leo looked good, until I noticed you abandoned it XD

    1. HomeGoods is similar to TJ Maxx in that you kind of have to be willing to look and sort through things to find the hidden gems. But the prices make it worth it! :)
I'd been looking forward to Black Box but I don't know what happened... just wasn't clicking with me. I plan to try it again another time, though.

  9. I'm glad you made the show! I would have been mad at myself too. :) Glad you had a great time.

I get bored with my decorations too and I always have to rearrange furniture.

Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen

    1. Thanks Aleen! I would have been so annoyed if I'd remembered the show days (or weeks) later! I wish I could rearrange the master bedroom furniture but it's kind of limited of how it can go. But it's still fun to decorate. :)

  10. HAHA I love the quote you included about purses. I LOVE a good purse:) might just be the inner fashionista in me though! LOL
I can't believe you forgot about your tickets to see Kathleen until a few hours before the show! Luckily you remembered! i've done that a few times too with some events and it's always a mad rush to get there on time!
I hope you break out of your reading slump soon! and I can't wait to read your thoughts on the selection because I LOVE that series! not a fan of the spin off series though I can't get into them.

    1. Purses are my weakness! For some people it's shoes, for me it's purses. My closet is full of them. And when I'm at an outlet with a Coach store or a Betsey Johnson... look out! LOL
Oh my gosh, I would have been sooo upset if I'd remembered about the show days later. Ugh. Thank goodness it worked out.
The Selection was so much fun. I mean, kind of silly and fluffy but who cares. I read the first book and I've read one short story/novella (The Queen - about Amberly when she was in the Selection) and I'm excited to keep reading the series. I am so Team Maxon! I just knew Aspen would get assigned to the palace but I want him to go away. LOL

  12. I'm so happy you didn't miss your comedy show, Tanya. That would have been awful. And I love the accents you shared the pics of - particularly the throw with the tassels. :)
I'm sorry to hear you're in a bit of a fun. That stinks. It rarely happens to me either so that makes it all the worse. I do hope you're enjoying Crownover's Marked Men series. I've only read the first one but I liked it. :)
I hope you've had a great week. I'm behind per usual. It's almost Sunday again. :/

    1. Oh my gosh, I know. I would have been kicking myself if I'd missed the show! I finally decided I had two choices with the reading slump - just stop reading for a week or so and quit trying to force it, or fall back on a tried and true favorite. I went with option two because I just couldn't bear not reading at all. :) So I'm reading Oblivion which is the first three books in Jennifer Armentrout's Lux series, but told from Daemon's POV. And you know I love me some Daemon Black. LOL SO it's been fun. I just started the third book, Opal, from Daemon's POV and I'm enjoying it. I think I'll be good to go after I finish this one.
Hope you've had a great week, Brandee... I spent the entire week trying to get through my inbox and get caught up. We'll see how long it lasts. Ha!
