January Wrap-Up

The first month of the year is in the books and overall it was a good one. Here's what happened:
  • I had a couple medical appointments that I'd been putting off (for no other reason than timing). It felt good to get them taken care of and be proactive.
  • My niece turned 11 (how is that possible?!).
  • We had unseasonably warm weather almost all month with only a few cold days here and there. *pouts*
  • I attended my first hockey game... and loved it!
  • I had a great mail day when I received a physical ARC of The Girl He Used to Know by Tracy Garvis Graves.
  • I had my first 5 star read of the year.

WHAT HAPPENED ON THE BLOG
Somehow I managed TWENTY blog posts in January which is probably some kind of record for me. So, yay me. :) That included six book reviews (yay me, again!): The One You Fight For, The Christmas Sisters, The Simple Wild, The Wicked King, Only a Breath Apart, and Moonlight Scandals.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING
I'm only 20% in and still trying to figure out Brooke's background and Jake's story, but I'm definitely enjoying it.

  2. Hmm... I think my favourite January read was The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan and it was an audiobook too! That's a double win for me. :)
I don't go for psychological thriller/mindfuck reads but Verity sounds like it might be kinda fun... Plus I'd like to see what the fuss is about.
11 books is a great start to January!

    1. I hear awesome things about Riordan's books but have never been drawn to them for whatever reason. I don't usually go for the psychological thrillers, either, but I'll read anything CoHo writes, soooo... now I'm so glad I read it because it was quite an experience!

  6. Did you throw stuff on the ice during the hockey game? I went to one once, and we were expected to throw stuffed crawfish (toys) after something happened... I can't remember now! They even had people that worked there just to sweep them off the ice. It was a fun experience. I really enjoyed both The Wicked King and Only A Breath Apart! TWK was twisty and kept me on my mental toes, while OABA gave me all the feels.

I hope you have a lovely week, Tanya!

    1. There was one point where people were throwing some special colored pucks onto the ice but because it was my first time there I didn’t know what was going on and hadn’t come prepared. :) I was kind of surprised at how much “extra stuff” happened beyond just the game itself!

  7. Happy birthday to your niece! My niece is supposed to be born next week. I’m excited to finally see her instead of those creepy 3D ultrasound photos. Congrats on your first 5 star read. Have a great February!

    1. I know, right? For me that's a lot! :) Oh my goodness, Archer's Voice about destroyed me, Sophie. It instantly became an all-time favorite. I'll look into Transcendence (as you add another book to my TBR). LOL

  9. Yeah for book mail! I knocked out 41 books last month, and only rated one a solid 5-stars. It was a book I bought in 2015, that was old when I got it - The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart. I can't wait to get to On This Ice. I should be reading it next week, since it's my last Feb ARC.

    1. OMG, 41 books! Can I be you when I grow up? LOL I'm surprised only one 5 star out of all that. I am super stingy with my 5 star ratings but I feel like you typically have more than that. I really enjoyed On Thin Ice. To me it had a different feel than the first two but I honestly can't put my finger on why.

    1. For as rare as I give out 5 stars, it's funny to me how I almost always seem to have a 5 star read in January each year. Starts the year off right. :)
