The Sunday Post #169

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • This week at the office was a killer. Deadlines and stress and way too much peopling. By Friday afternoon I was so done. So mentally drained that I declared Saturday a hibernation day. I stayed in pj's and vegged all day. Just what I needed.
  • My mom is finally retiring (at the age of 74). Friday was her last full day of work. She goes in tomorrow briefly but that's it. Not sure how she's going to fill her time now - maybe volunteer work - but I'm glad she's no longer commuting to a full time job every day.
  • Otherwise it's been a thoroughly uneventful week. Today is supposed to be stormy so it sounds like a good excuse to hibernate again. :) How was your week?
  • A favorite from the early 90's...

WHAT I READ IN THE LAST WEEK:

Just as I predicted... another powerful 5-star read from Bryn Greenwood. Review to come (hopefully) this week.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

When I say I'm currently reading this one I mean that I'm on page 2. LOL So I really have no thoughts on it at all just yet... but I have high hopes! :)

  1. I'm sorry about the office-related stress! I hope you have a calmer week going ahead.
Wow! Your mother is a rock-star!! Stormy weather is the perfect hibernating weather. You should make it a relaxing at home spa day!
Have a good week ahead, Tanya!

    1. Thanks Nick. I'm hoping this week is a lot calmer, too. (For you and me both!) I like your idea of a spa day! :)

  2. I do not miss the office stress. It's the worst. Then again, being a teacher has its own added stress so now thinking about it, Idk which one is worse LOL. I'm so glad your mom is done with her full-time job!!! She should enjoy her life like going on cruises, gardening, etc.

    1. Oh yes, I'm sure your job has plenty of stress! Yikes! I'm pretty relieved my mom is retiring... now she just has to decide what she wants to spend her time on. :)

  3. Congratulations to your mom! She earned her "golden years". I hope she fills her days doing all the things she never had time to do when she was working full time. I liked The Flatshare. I hope you are able to get past page 2.

    1. Thanks Sam. I know she envisioned spending her retirement years with my dad but as we have got used to saying, this is the "new normal." She's already talking about cleaning out some closets and looking into some volunteer work. I still haven't got far into The Flatshare (from page 2 to page 32 LOL). Still getting used to the way Leon's chapters are written.

  4. Scream and jump!!! You got it!!!! And now I will sweat wondering if you'll love it! This Reckless Oath is my current read (page 10 LOL) and The Flatshare is also one I want to read. We really are in sync Tanya!
Now about hybernating...maybe you should call it summernating because ...but I get what you mean! That's what I've done yesterday in my garden in the shadow of a tree: just reading! Let's hope next week will be less stressful for you!

    1. As always, we book twins seem to be in sync! :) I loved This Reckless Oath We Made so hard! I've been mulling over my thoughts and hope to get my review written today or tomorrow. I so hope you'll love it, too! (Gentry is now one of my favorite fictional characters EVER!) Reading in your garden sounds lovely! Here's hoping we both have an easy, stress-free week.

  5. I've only heard good things about The Flatshare - which is great, but also makes me a bit nervous to read it! Hope you love it!

    1. Hyped books tend to make me a bit nervous, too! I'm only about 30 pages into The Flatshare (I barely read all weekend) but so far I'm enjoying it. The male main character's chapters are written in a different kind of way and it's taking some getting used to.

  6. My mom is in her 70's and still working full time! Its crazy. She knows when she retires she HAS to have something to fill her time. If she says home she might kill my dad (who has been retired for 20 years)!
Hopefully this week at work is less stressful!

    1. That's funny about your parents. I know my mom was looking forward to spending the time with my dad so now with him gone it will be an adjustment in how she plans to spend her time now. Fingers crossed we both have an easy week! :)

No concrete plans for my mom but I know she has ideas. She's taking 5-day bus trip with a senior group next month (going to Nashville, I think). And she's going to look into some volunteer work.

  9. Oh, I do love a day of vegging out! Sounds like it was much needed after that stressful week! Wow, your mom waited a long time to retire, cheers to her! :)

Glad to hear the Greenwood turned out to be a 5 star read. I love Roni Loren's books so I hope her newest is good!

    1. I know, right? But she kept hanging in there because they knew the company was closing this office and that they would likely get severance packages. So she stayed and it paid off... she was among the first to go and got an awesome package. :)

I'm so excited for the Roni Loren book! I've been loving this series.

  14. Yay to your mom retiring! Working in your 70's is tough, she deserves some relaxation. I hope she's gonna find something that's gonna keep her busy though but the kind of busy with no pressure like a workplace. And something that makes her happy. Hang in there, Tanya. Work's a killer but I'm glad you gave yourself some time to rest and have a whole day to yourself. It's really important to have some me-time after a stressful day/s. *sends you a hug* You're doing great :)

    1. Thank you, Chai! I just have to say, you leave the best comments. Always so thoughtful. I appreciate that. My mom has mentioned looking into some volunteer work. And taking part in some classes at a local senior center. The weekend of downtime was just what I needed and it did me a world of good. I hope your week is off to a wonderful start, my friend. {{hugs}} right back to you!

I hope your mom enjoys the retired life! Some people love it and then others get bored. It's a great opportunity to do other fulfilling things though that aren't quite as stressful.

  17. Deadlines take a serious toll on us all so I hope this week treats you better and is a bit more laid back! Glad you were able to rest up a bit on Saturday. Nothing more well earned that a lazy day after a freakishly long week. I have a feeling that is going to be me this week--I'm already overwhelmed and it's only MONDAY and I'm basically like, yes, hello, can I have weekend now?

    Hope your mom enjoys retirement!

Excited to hear about your thoughts on The Flatshare! It's on my TBR and it sounds super fun!

    1. Thanks Jessica. :) The two days of vegging did me a lot of good. This week is off to a better start. Sorry to hear your's is already trying, though. Come on, Friday!

The Flatshare is starting out cute but it's not totally pulling me in yet. Probably because I'm still hungover from The Reckless Oath We Made.

  18. That's an amazing career your mum must have had Tanya, congratulations to her and hope she can put her feet up and relax in retirement. My mum is the same age but she retired around ten years ago. She loved her work but I felt relived when she retired, I worried about her travelling each day. A day of rest sounds perfect Tanya, I'm planning on doing the same myself this upcoming weekend.

    1. Good for your mom for retiring early! I wish my mom had been able to but it just wasn't possible. :( I'm glad she'll be able to take it easy now and just be on her own schedule - however leisurely it might be. :)

  19. I finds that I need a hibernation day every so often. It's nice to unwind, sit in your pj's and just veg all day. Covet looks like a book I'd like to read, and I've read Roni Loren's books in the past and really enjoyed them! Happy Reading your two new books!

  22. Hopefully your mom enjoys her retirement! Working fulltime at 74 can’t be easy. I can relate to too much peopleing. Whenever I get a day off, I spend it asleep and not speaking to anybody. I hope you’re having a great week!
