The Sunday Post #225

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
Fall(ish) weather has arrived in my area and it's absolutely delicious. Temps are the in 70's this weekend instead of the 90's and I'm in heaven. I can go outside without melting into a puddle. It'll be back in the 80's this week but even that's not as brutal as what we've been having. I'll take it. What's it like where you are?

My Tampa Lightning won the Stanley Cup! Wow, that was exciting! I loved watching them advance through the series and battle through some really tough games (one of which had five overtime periods). I was just thrilled for those guys and I spent the next several days OD'ing on game highlights and post-game interviews. :)

Yesterday's excitement was a trip to Trader Joe's. It's been at least 6-7 months since I was there last (pre-COVID) and it was fun to grab some favorites.

I'm so very over mask-wearing being treated as a political issue. Like staying safe and healthy, and protecting those around you, has anything at all to do with your political leanings. I mean, seriously... what??? It's a medical issue, plain and simple. Why is that so hard to understand? Moving on.

This week's 80's music fix is Lorelei (1984) by Cocteau Twins. I'm digging a little deep for this one, and I never even remember the local radio stations playing this back in the day, but it was one of my favorite alternative/indie songs. Liz's voice is so ethereal and it gets me every time.

    1. We'll be right back up into the mid-80's this week but I enjoyed the cooler temps while they lasted. :)

  3. Fall is here! Let's enjoy it. You know I am with you about the masks. Glad you had some high points this week with hockey and shopping. Thanks for the hit of shoegazing. Loved the Cocteau Twins back in the day

    1. Yeah, the mask thing... what can you even say at this point? Some people are just going to stand firm in their beliefs in the face of all scientific evidence to the contrary.

  4. In the southern hemisphere we're sitting on the warmer side of Spring now! But we had such a long cold winter I'm not upset yet! 🤣 Hope you have a lovely week!

  5. Fall has arrived here as well and I am grateful! Highs in the 60's-70's. Have a great week!

  6. We've had lovely weather this week! I'm so pumped for the fall season! I have Holidaze coming up, and I'm really looking forward to it. 😁 YES! Mask-wearing should not be a political issue, and I'm sick of people choosing not to wear them for stupid reasons. Both of my parents are in the hospital on ventilators because they didn't think the virus was real, and chose not to wear masks or take precautions.

    1. Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your parents, Lindsi. That's terrible. :( I hope they are improving. It's sad to see story after story in the news of people who have refused to take the virus seriously and then ended up sick.

  7. Lots of great books you got here! I'm also sick and tired of the mask wearing thing being treated as a political issue when it should be treated as a medical issue. Hope you have a great week!

    1. Yeah, the whole mask issue is mind boggling because it shouldn't even be an issue. Why would you not want to protect yourself?

  8. The Cocteau Twins, that is such a blast from the past, I loved that sort of music in my teens.

Trader Joe’s is on my list to visit the next time I manage to get to the States, I keep seeing posts on Buzzfeed of so many amazing things, my friend spent a fortune getting a couple of sent over here to Scotland.

Have a lovely week and stay safe.

    1. Oh my goodness, I can't believe your friend had stuffed shipped from Trader Joe's to Scotland! LOL I mean, they have a lot that I like, but probably not enough to pay for all that shipping. Haha!

  9. I’m glad the weather is cooling down. I think it’s in the 70s here right now, but it’s been in the high 30s or low 40s when I walk the dog in the morning. I’m so happy for the Lightning! Finally, a team I was cheering for actually won. Happy October!

    1. The 30's and 40's? Wow! That's downright frigid to me. LOL
I was just thrilled to see the Lightning win. Especially after such an unprecedented and trying season.

  10. It's actually a little chilly in my area this weekend and they are talking about frost tonight. Why can't we just stay in the 70's for a bit? Congrats on your team winning. It was fun living in STL when the Blues won last year. I hope you have a great week!

    1. Frost? Wow, you're moving right on from cooler temps to cold! :)
Oh gosh, I bet it was crazy in St Louis last year! I was sad to see the Blues get taken out so early in the play-off's this year. They're my #2 team. :)

  11. My brother lives in Tampa but I haven't known him to be a sports fan since he was a kid (Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes). He didn't really do sports other than track, more of a computer nerd. I am also loving, loving the weather. It's right around 70, although it will get up to around 80 midweek now but sunny which is letting me do yard stuff. I'll be interested to see what you thought of The Lies That Bind.

  12. HAH love the totally random. Yay for your team winning! That's awesome.
I don't get why masks are still a political topic. It's ridiculous. I assume it's a lot of people who still think one side made up it up or something. I don't know. People are crazy. lol
YAY for some fall-ish weather though. :)

  13. Glad to hear your temps are so nice! Our weather is getting back in the 90's and then high 80's out here which is an improvement, so there is that. I've been up in the Pacific Northwest Thursday-Sunday so I got a reprieve and loved it. Back at home now enjoying my air conditioning. :)

Yes, wearing a mask shouldn't be politicized. It should be a safety/health issue. As we can see with the news of the Pres getting covid that it wasn't such a smart idea to forgo a mask. What can you do? Some people can only learn the hard way.

Interested in hearing your thoughts on In a Holidaze. Like the whole Groundhog Day set up.

    1. So right, Rachel. How many times have we seen on the news stories about those who denounced the virus as a hoax (rolling my eyes) only to end up sick and hospitalized. Some people really will only learn the hard way.

  14. Your temps sound awesome! It's really cooled off here now that we're into fall. And congrats again on the Lightning!

I'm the same with masks. I don't even understand it. It makes me wonder how we have any hope of corralling this thing if half the population would rather fight about wearing masks or whichever.

    1. I was just reading today about how in Melbourne, Australia they have strict curfews, restrictions about staying at home, you can only be out for one hour, etc. And here we can't even get people to put on a mask. Gah!

  15. Yay for fall weather! Ours is here, too. We have fog, a little rain, and temps in the 60s for now. I hope we don't get super rainy too fast. I need a little sun. ;) And I'm with you on the mask issue!

  17. Funny right how the small things that we can do again (or we allow us to do) feel so good whereas they were just normal before COVID? And agreed on the mask situation! Have a great week Tanya!

  19. I have Gypsy King sitting on my kindle waiting on me. I hope you've been enjoying it! And I'm with you on taking the 70s & 80s over the 90s!! I could do without all of the hurricanes, but what can ya do?

    1. I'd been holding on to Gypsy Kind for quite a while, telling myself I wanted to finish Perry's other series before starting that one. But when Maureen's book club picked it, I was ready to dive in. :)

  20. How exciting your team won! I've read so many sports romances where the hockey stars team win the Stanley Cup that I think I'd die of excitement if it happened with my real life team!

I fully support the mini-mask rant. Peoples opposition to wearing one is ridiculous and the common good of all should never be political. In my area, mask compliance seems pretty high. I'd say it's purely anecdotal but our cases are still really low (it's varied between 3 in 100,000 up to 14 in 100,000 over the past month) so I'm willing to bet masks are one of the reasons...

    1. It really was terribly exciting! To watch them move their way up through all the play-off games and finally come out on top... I was so excited for them. :)

I'm sure masks play a large part in way your numbers are so much lower than here. Scientists continually state that masks make a differnece. A fact that our idiot government continues to ignore. >:/
