The Sunday Post #226 | October 18, 2020

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
It's been a fairly quiet week. I continued to work from home The Husband had some meetings for a couple Board positions he holds. Otherwise it was business as usual.

Yesterday I got to see my sister (the older one that lives at the beach) and that was such a treat. It had been so long since I'd seen her. I took her birthday present to drop off and we ended up having a great visit (standing outside on her driveway, staying apart). Even though we text all the time it was so good to actually see her live and in-person. :)

While there, we discussed the upcoming holidays. Thanksgiving is basically a wash. Typically me and The Husband host but that won't be happening this year. Everyone will just have to do their own thing. As for Christmas, we always get together at my mom's house on Christmas Eve, but again, not comfortable with that. So we talked about having a together-but-distanced gathering on Christmas Eve. Like a tailgate party. Each family/group will bring their own food (no sharing/passing around dishes) and each family will stay at their own table/tailgate, but we'll still all be together and able to talk and visit and spend time together. We'll have to work out logistics, but it's a good feeling to think we might actually be able to see the whole family at Christmas. :)

This week's 80's music fix is Breakout (1986) by Swingout Sister. This is one that always lifts my mood.

  1. Lydia Bird had me shedding many tears. Hope you enjoy it. Breakout is such a bop. Haven't heard it in forever.

  2. I feel that meme in my soul. So annoying!! I was just beginning to ponder thanksgiving. I'm sure my parents will still host because they don't always take the virus seriously, but I am exposed to so many germs at school, I don't want to risk it.

    1. I can understand that, Samantha. I haven't seen my younger sister in months for the same reason. She's never taken the virus seriously and I constantly see photos on Facebook or IG of her around people (neighbors/friends). I'm not at all comfortable being around her anymore.

  3. The tail gate Christmas sounds like a good plan! We've pretty much given up hope of seeing any family this Christmas except for my FIL who is "bubbled" up with us since he lives alone... But that's not really a treat when he's over two days a week anyway, lol. Still, I'm grateful that we can see him. It'll be a year come Christmas since I've seen my mum and it's over a year since we've seen the professor's mum and siblings. :(

That meme made me laugh! The number of times that happens and the rage it gives me... lol

    1. I'm sorry it's been so long since you've been able to see your mom, Nicci. :( It's so hard. I'm glad that you can see your FIL, at least. And I'm sure he appreciates the company since he lives alone.

  4. My mom and I just chatted about the holidays and I think, while we usually get together with the entire family It will just be my family, my mom and sister and nephew at my house (I love to cook) That way it's no pressure. I figure one year of just staying home with no crazy will be nice and we can resume as usual, hopefully, next year.

I just grabbed the 3rd book in the CloverLeigh Farm Series. I didn't know it was book three but they said it's a standalone. I'm not confused so I figured I would just keep reading it and go back if I like it enough. :)

I hope you have a great week, Tanya! Happy Reading!

    1. I feel the same, Michelle. These aren't normal times. If we have to sacrifice some together time this year, so be it. Hopefully next year we can all be together again.

I'm excited to continue on with the Cloverleigh Farms series!

  5. A tailgate Christmas party is a brilliant idea Tanya! And I am happy you got to see your sister, even from afar.

  6. We're trying to figure out the holidays, as well. We've already invited my mom over for Thanksgiving, but Christmas is still up in the air! Unfortunately, I think it's too cold where we live to do a tailgate Christmas!

    1. I think there will be just three of us for Thanksgiving - me, the husband, and my mom. We'll see if we're able to carry out the Christmas plan. And yeah, I don't imagine an outdoor Christmas gathering would work for you! :)

  7. It is hard but I'm glad you are making such safe plans for your holidays. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths are up. With people being more inside as the weather gets colder I have a bad feeling. I hope I'm wrong. We just stay home and we are used to it now. You read some books I have and want to read last week!

    1. Thanks Anne. Yes, it's truly not worth it to be taking chances. Especially when some family members don't take it as seriously. If we can't gather safely I'll just stay at home with just the two of us. :)

  8. I think that password random has actually happened to me and more than once, lol!

I think an outdoor Christmas sounds like a great, safe idea. I bet you don't get super cold either in Florida just like here in Southern California. We could probably do outdoors with a few blankets, a space heater or fire pit to help keep warm as well.

    1. Decembers are still pretty mild here so doing something outdoor for Christmas isn't beyond the realm of possibility. Hopefully we can work something out.

  9. In person is good. :) It's so hard as this pandemic drags on to not see loved ones. Glad you were able to connect! And yes, the holidays. We're trying to figure out what they're going to look like for us this year as well. Thanksgiving's not looking good... :(

    Great song!

    1. Nope, Thanksgiving is definitely a wash here. Just not going to happen. My other sister is being pretty vocal about it but I just can't justify taking the chance.

  10. Yay for getting to see your sister. I also love the idea of a Christmas tailgate. Our weather tends to be all over the place in December but if it's warm enough, I may have to keep that in mind.

    1. December's are still pretty mild here so it's likely that something outdoors will be totally do-able. I imagine your weather is a lot less predictable. I hope we all manage to find some creative work-arounds this year.

  11. The holidays are going to be so hard this year. We normally go to my sister's and that's not happening this year. Not sure how we will do Christmas. I also got to see my sister, her family and my parents this weekend at their condo. We all met her in the parking lot, social distances and wore masks. Crazy times.

    1. The separation has been hard and knowing the holidays will be so different this year is really tough. I'm glad you were able to manage a visit over the weekend, though!

  12. That sounds like an excellent plan for Christmas, I hope the weather cooperates. I don’t think our plans will be any different than usual since we have Christmas lunch at the beach

Wishing you a great reading week

  14. Omg, that totally random is so true! I hate it! LOL

I don't think we're doing anything for Thanksgiving really - not that we have big plans ever. Christmas? I know my mom would like to see the grandkids but if the weather is awful, that won't work well because we try to stay outside if/when we see them. I hope your picnic Christmas works out though! That sounds fun.

    1. I think the holidays will look different for a lot of people this year. (At least, I hope so!) It's hard to think about staying separate from family at Christmas, but desperate times and all that. :(

  15. So glad that y'all were able to come up with a holiday solution that worked for everyone. I know I am so looking forward to things getting under control, so I can visit my grandmother. I hope you enjoyed The Roommate. I had hoped to read it last week, but it just didn't happen. Now I'm waiting on another hold to come through on it.

  16. Yay for getting to see your older sister! And a tailgate Christmas party sounds like it'll be a blast! We still get to see my side of the family every weekend for family dinner since everyone lives a few miles from us, works from home, does grocery pickup or wears a N95 if they have to go to a doctor appointment. :) But my husband's family is the polar opposite for safety, lives in CA, and this will be the first year we don't see them even once. I'm counting down until life can get back to normal, I desperately want to meet my new nephew in SoCal who was born in July.

    1. That's great that you're still able to see your family. Seems like circumstances all aligned to make that possible. Hopefully you'll be able to see the CA contingent next year.

  17. One thing about living in FL is that you can still do outdoor things so it will be nice for you to have that option.

We don't have family out here and it's always been just the two of us so not much will change for our holidays.

  18. I'm trying to figure out what to do for the holidays. I'd like to have family over for Christmas Brunch but they're going to have to stay at home leading up to it and I don't think anyone will. Ugh.

I hope you enjoyed The Roommate!

    1. Same here, Amber. I have one sister who is totally on board with the lack of Thanksgiving but the other one is angry and upset and says she refuses to let the virus rule her life. *rolling my eyes* I don't let it rule my life but I also try to make smart decisions!
