THE WEEK IN REVIEW
The word of the day is: exhausted. I hosted a dinner last night for my sister's birthday and I am seriously dragging this morning. The entire day yesterday was devoted to party preparations: cleaning, organizing, shopping, decorating, cooking. And that was before anyone arrived for the actual dinner. Ha! By the time everyone left I was ready to drop. I definitely see a nap in my future later today.
On the plus side, the dinner was a big success. Everyone was able to attend, the food was a big hit, and my sister had a great time. So it was worth it. 😊
Round 1 of hockey playoffs continue... the Tampa Lightning won their first game but lost games two and three. Hopefully they can turn things around this coming week.
In honor of my sister's birthday, this week's throwback song is Happy Birthday (1981) by Altered Images. Enjoy!

NEW ADDITIONS
Not a thing.
That's the 16 Candles Song, no? Love it! You're a good sister. I, myself, am not surprised your party was a success.
ReplyDeleteSam - Yep, the Altered Images song was used in 16 Candles! Good catch. I was glad the dinner party went well, but man did it take it out of me. lol
DeleteLove HOCKEY!!! But is it bad that it cracks me up that the southern states tend to be more into hockey than us up north where we get all the snow and ice?? haha When I lived in Texas, it really surprised me how big it was down there, I SO wasn't expecting it. Have you read that Liz Tomforde yet? It really focuses on the sport really well. I think you would enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED Play of Passion, and I hope you end up loving that one. I can't wait for your review. I know many fans of the Ali Hazelwood love that one, so I hope it turns out to be a win for you darling.
Have a great Sunday and reading week.
Renee - I do think it's funny how Southerners have taken to hockey. :) I haven't read Tomforde yet but it's definitely on the TBR!
DeleteIt's always fun to return to the Psy-Changeling world. And I really like Drew. :) The Hazelwood book isn't something I would normally go for, but a blogger friend was kind enough to send it to me. I'm doing a combination read/listen and while it won't go down as a favorite, it's been pretty entertaining.
Aww, how sweet of you! Sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration for your sister.
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela! My sister seemed to love it. :)
DeleteHappy birthday to your sister! It's been years since I hosted to be honest. It seems that after my dad died I lost my mojo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sophie! I don't entertain often - and every time I do I remember how draining it is (mentally and physically).
DeleteI’m sure your sister appreciated all your hard work. You definitely deserve that nap.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great week
Thanks Shelleyrae! I definitely got that nap yesterday. :)
DeleteOoh I don't know that song! You got me with this one. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck Lightning...
Greg - We're even because sometimes you stump me with your song choices, too. lol
DeleteI'm glad the party went well! Hopefully you get some down time!
ReplyDeleteThanks Samantha!
DeleteThat quote about sisters is spot on! ;D And I'd be exhausted, too, after a Saturday like that. Hope you can just rest and relax today.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark! I did absolutely nothing the day after the party. LOL
DeleteI've never hosted anything in my life so my hat is off to you! What all did you have to eat?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jinjer! I don't host a lot, but I don't really mind doing it. For food, I made lasagna, chicken tetrazzini, salad, and a veggie/dip tray. My mom and older sister brought desserts. Good eating!
DeleteThat's such a nice thing doing a party for your sister - I'm glad it went well. I loved both the books you are currently reading. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thanks Anne. My sister sent such a nice thank you card after the party. She really loved it.
DeleteSo glad the party went well! It sounds fun though a bit exhausting! I have really enjoyed the one book by Ali Hazelwood that I've read and am looking forward to reading more from her. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine! That really sums it up: fun but exhausting!
DeleteNice of you to throw your sister a birthday party. Exhausted is definitely the word of the week. Though thankfully no hosting was involved.
ReplyDeleteHena - Sorry your week was so exhausting... hopefully this week is much better!
DeleteI'm glad to hear your sister's birthday party went so well and hope that you're all rested up from it now. Best of luck to your hockey team on the rest of the playoffs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne - Sadly, my hockey team did not make it past round 1. Now I just have to hope that the team that bested us gets beat. LOL
DeleteI relate to that sister quote so much!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the party went well. I know what you mean about the stuff leading up to a party exhausting you. And then you have to clean everything up after. It can be a lot.
I watched my first Seattle Kraken NHL game this past week. They have the same record in the playoffs as your team. Won the first, lost the next two.
Deanna - Right? If it was just the party, I could deal with it. But add in all the before and after stuff... ugh. I see that the Kraken have advanced to Round 2 in the playoffs! Go Kraken!
DeleteHappy Birthday to your sister! I'm glad the dinner was a success, and I hope you got all the rest you needed afterwards.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison! The party was great and I was a total slug the next day. LOL
DeleteGlad to hear all the hard work paid of and you had a nice birthday dinner for your sister! It's nice to go the extra mile for someone you love. Hope you get some rest and recuperate! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel! I was exhausted but my sister was practically in tears when she told me how much she appreciated the party... so it was well worth it. :)
DeleteI hope you got that nap in ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm curious what you think of the Ali Hazelwood book. I loved that one.
Maureen - I didn't love Love on the Brain, but I liked it. It was fun to listen to it on audio. :)
DeleteI'm exhausted just reading all you had to do lol I'm glad it was a big success (& I love the timely meme at the end).
ReplyDeleteI started that Hazelwood months ago btu it just wasn't clicking with me. I LOVED her first book and was sure it would be a slam dunk but nope.
Karen @For What It's Worth
Karen - Yeah, the meme fit in perfectly with my sister's birthday. :) I thought Love on the Brain was okay, but nothing more. The female MC was so obtuse that I wanted to thump her on the head. LOL
DeleteOh, party planning is so exhausting. Especially for an introvert like me. I stress about the planning and then stress during the party. 😂 I'm glad it was a success! I hope you enjoy(ed) Love on the Brain. I thought it was very good!
ReplyDeleteDedra - Yes it is! And I get the introvert. But in this case it was all family so not *quite* as stressful. :)
