The Sunday Post #24

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

Happy weekend! The big news here this past week was Hurricane Hermine. Thankfully by the time it reached my area it was downgraded to Tropical Storm Hermine and it didn't pack the same punch as it did on the west coast of the state. As usual, people over-reacted, businesses closed, schools closed - crazy. I actually appreciated it because the roads were practically deserted on my commute to the office on Friday. Ha! We've actually had thunderstorms that produced more wind and rain so, in my area at least, it was much ado about nothing.

I started a Freebie Friday feature this week and I've been so pleased with the response. I'm excited to pass some books along to others who want them while also making some more room on my bookshelves. :)

Lastly, I have to share my favorite new pretty - my Betsey Johnson backpack. I adore Betsey Johnson bags and have been carrying the same one for a couple months now (so unlike me because I switch bags constantly). My friend Hope (the same Hope that created Best In Books) and I were just texting about the backpacks a few weeks back and she bought herself a gorgeous black and white polka dot one. I've had my eye on them since then and yesterday I hit the jackpot. Behold the fabulousness (that's a word, right? LOL) of this pink and black beauty. It's official: I'm in love.

Tuesday, August 30: Top Ten Tuesday was all about the books I wish had been around when I was in school. YA definitely was NOT the genre back then that it is now. There are so many books that I would have loved to have had access to then. Thank goodness YA has exploded and now the options are almost limitless.

Thursday, September 1: There was no doubt that the week's That's What He Said Thursday post had to focus on one of the Addicted series guys. In this case it was Connor Cobalt, showing a side rarely shown. I'm still feeling kind of swoony over the graphic and might have to print it so I can look at it all the time. :)

Friday, September 2: I debuted a Freebie Friday feature this week and I'm super excited about it! I have quite a selection of books that I'm giving away and the winner gets their pick of whichever book they want. There's still a few days left to enter so if there's anything that catches your eye - it could be yours!

Saturday, September 3: Best In Books is back this month (it took a little hiatus last month when I was feeling poorly) and it's no surprise that Some Kind of Perfect pretty much dominates almost every category. What can I say? It was *that* good.

Finished
Some Kind of Perfect - Krista & Becca Ritchie
I put it off as long as I could but I finally did it. I've had Some Kind of Perfect since it released in May but I wasn't ready for it to end. But I finished it this past week and oh my heart. I'll miss these characters desperately. *sobs*

Current
Tell the Wolves I'm Home - Carol Rifka Brunt
I'm listening to this one on audio and at halfway through I'm still not really sure how I feel about it. I heard of this one from Margot Wood in an Epic Reads video and she raved about it... but for me the jury is still out.

Blurred Lines - Lauren Layne
I needed something light and fun after Some Kind of Perfect (not that it was dark but I was saying goodbye to friends *more sobbing*) and this is totally doing the trick. There is so much laugh out loud dialogue and I'm loving it.

KINDLE BOOKS:

Titles link to GoodReads

My Time in the Affair - Stylo Fantome
Rae of Sunshine - Micalea Smeltzer
When Stars Collide - Micalea Smeltzer
Never Let You Go - Katy Regnery

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
You know I want to hear about it! :)

  1. We have the winds from the hurricane this weekend. It hasn't been too bad. I love that bag!! Tell the Wolves I'm Home is one of my favorite books but I can see it not being for everyone. Hope you wind up enjoying it. Have a great week!

    1. Glad Hermine wasn't too bad for you, either. I'm sure it's wrong to love a material item as much as I'm loving my new bag but I can't help it. LOL I'm still at just 60% of Tell the Wolves I'm Home since I only listen to it in the car. I'm loving Toby but really hating Greta (what a wretched sister).

  2. I'm so glad the storm wasn't bad for you, I haven't followed it a lot but I kept hearing about it and wondering how bad it was going to be. Up here it's tornadoes mostly but whenever I see these hurricane or tropical storms I'm like yikes, it's not like you can get out of their way (unless you leave, and who wants t do that?). Anyway hope your reads are good and you enjoy your weekend. Freebie Fridays sounds fun!

    1. I figure at least with hurricanes or tropical storms you have plenty of times to prepare - or even leave if you want to. Tornadoes... nope! It sounds like maybe we are both living in the right places for us. LOL

  3. Glad the hurricane wasn't too bad for you! I think "over reacting" is the motto of the south. When i lived in NC, if they even said the word hurricane or snow you would think it was code for nuclear apocalypse! Have a wonderful week!

    1. LOL You are so right about the over reacting thing. Where in NC did you live? That's where my husband is from and we're up there a couple times a year visiting family in the Fayetteville area.

  4. I am glad that the hurricane/TS wasn't too rough on you. I am a Michigander, tornadoes are the threat around here, and I can't imagine what a hurricane would be like.

    That bag is amazing!

    1. For some reason I don't usually bat an eye at hurricanes (there's so much advance notice) but tornadoes scare me silly! And I am still drooling over the backpack. LOL

I'm at about 60% in Tell the Wolves I'm Home. Jury is still out. I'm wondering if the narration is tainting my feelings. Might have been better off reading it instead of listening.

  6. Glad the storm didn't get too rough. It wasn't rough for me either. But I have to admit, the whole town was scared.

The bag is adorable. I spotted one by her before and when I went back to purchase it, it was gone.

    1. I know!! Swooon! I hadn't been able to stop thinking about them ever since you posted that pic from Belk (I think it was Belk?) and when I saw this one at Ross for a ridiculous price... there was no way I was leaving without it. LOL

    1. And we further bond over Betsey Johnson bags. Hee hee! I actually only have two of them - a white and coral purse with black trim and now this pink backpack. I don't even carry backpacks but I had to have this one. :) The inner lining on the purse is so gorgeous I wish I could turn it inside out. LOL

  10. I don't really think YA existed when I was a teen - the majority of titles were realistic fiction, and usually existed to teach us wayward teens some sort of moral - not exactly riveting stuff!

    1. Exactly, Jane. It seems most of the books available when I was a teen hit you over the head with some heavy-handed moral message. Not so enjoyable!

  11. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Some Kind of Perfect! I cried, too. But i can't wait until the kid's spin-off series. :)

    1. Same here, Jess! Confession time: When the kid's spin-off was first announced (ages ago) I was unsure about it. But now after reading SKoP and seeing all their personalities as they're growing up... now I can't wait!
