Y'all know that I don't typically reach for fantasy - I'm all about contemporary - but there are a few exceptions. A couple fantasy series have totally hooked me. And there are a couple upcoming releases that have me pretty excited because of the synopsis or the author. So here are the Top 5 fantasy books I'm most excited for!

Sarah J. Maas
This is a given, right? It almost feels like cheating because it's probably on everybody's list. But, yes, A Court of Wings and Ruin is the one that has me with full-on grabby hands. I mean, with the way ACOMAF ended... I need to know what happens next.
And because Rhysand.

Evelyn Skye
The Crown's Game was one of my surprise favorites last year. The Russian setting pulled me right in and the ending left me desperate for the next book. I must know what becomes of Nikolai, Vika and Pasha!

Mindy McGinnis
A world threatened by an impending tidal wave that can only be held back by the ritualistic death of a young woman born to make that sacrifice. Throw in some magic and a pair of star-crossed lovers... I'm there!

A. Jae-Jones
As soon as I read the synopsis and saw mention of the Goblin King I was sold. And I'm sure it had nothing to do with my flashbacks of the movie Labyrinth with a fierce David Bowie as the Goblin King. Nothing at all.

Cora Carmack
I adore Cora's contemporary novels. Her Rusk University series is among my favorites. I can't wait to see what she does with fantasy.
What fantasy book are you anticipating most?

  1. ACOWAR has already destroyed me and it's not even out. ): Given to the Sea is an interesting read. It wasn't not what I expected (in a good way)!

    1. Five days to go! I'm not sure yet if I'll be hitting up my library for Given to the Sea or if I'll buy it. That's too bad about Roar. :( Fingers crossed that I like it more!

    1. I actually read Throne of Glass by Maas a couple years ago and was just kind of... meh. And never continued the series. But something about ACOTAR hooked me and I *love* the series!

  5. I am right there with you for ACOWAR and Roar. I LOOOOOOVE the ACOTAR series, and I am interested to see what Cormack does in a fantasy realm. I liked her paranormal book, and I adore her contemporaries.

    1. I never got into Maas's Throne of Glass series... tried the first book but it just didn't hook me... but the A Court of Thorns of Roses series is another story. Love it! I love Carmack's contemporary series so I'm hoping I enjoy her foray into fantasy just as much.

    1. What surprises me is that most times when I dip my toes into fantasy I enjoy so I should probably try more of it. And I definitely *love* Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses series!

  9. I absolutely adore Mindy McGinnis's writing, so I'm going to be all over Given to the Sea when it comes out. I'm a biiiit worried because of the negative reviews, but I hope for the best. Wintersong was GREAT - I kinda expected more, because I hyped it up FOR MYSELF (I do that a lot, tbh), but it was still a decent 4 star read. Hope you'll love all these books! :)

    1. Oh wow, have you seen bad reviews of Given to the Sea? I must be looking in different place because the couple reviews I've seen have been pretty positive. I hope we'll both love it! LOL at how you hyped Wintersong *for yourself.* You are too funny. :D I have it on hold at the library and should have it in my hands soon!

    1. LOL You are wise, Olivia, because the wait between the SJM books is long, isn't it?! At least there's not long to wait until ACOWAR. Only a couple weeks to go. Eeek! :)

  11. I wish I could gobble up all the fantasy reads. My go to is primarily Historical Romance, but I love to dabble in all genres. Fantasy is an oft neglected genre for me and I don't know why, because I love it! ~Aleen
