The Sunday Post #132

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

What a busy week it's been! Between work and special events it feels like it's been nonstop. Yesterday in particular was go-go-go.

A couple months ago The Husband was nominated in a contest for a new car (technically, a free two year lease). A local dealership was giving away six cars: one to a police officer, a firefighter, a nurse, a teacher, corrections officer, and a veteran. Robert was nominated in the veteran category. He made it to the final three and yesterday was the big event at the dealership - music, bbq, presentations and the announcement of the winners. He did not win the car but it was great to see so many local heroes and public servants recognized. And he's always a winner in my eyes.

We also had a holiday party to attend last night (my company party). It was a formal event so we glammed it up and I even hired a makeup artist to come to the house and do my makeup. Total treat! I gotta say, social events like that usually send me into a tailspin of anxiety but it was actually an okay night. Had a decent dinner (typical party buffet fare), won a prize, socialized until I hit my peopling limit, and then headed home. I give myself a gold star for effort. LOL

And now it's Sunday, supposed to rain virtually all day, and I'm looking forward to running a quick errand this morning and then hibernating the rest of the day. Perfect balance to yesterday. How was your weekend?

Unfortunately with the busyness of the week, I only managed to get one blog post up. And other than some audiobook here and there, I have not read at all this week. I've been meaning to start my reread of Maybe Someday but I just haven't found the time. Maybe today... *fingers crossed*

WWW Wednesday #33

WHAT I READ IN THE LAST WEEK:

Not quite what I expected but still entertaining. Definitely more domestic drama than mystery.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

Not a thing right now! No physical book, no ebook, no audiobook. Hopefully today I'll dive into something new.

I'd requested this one back in September and never heard anything. I just assumed I'd been declined. But three months after requesting... the approval comes. Surprise! :)

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. It has been so busy this month. I haven't got much reading done either. What can you do?

Getting glammed up is fun! Sounds like you and the hubby had a great time. I feel your random! I can relate so many times. :)

    1. My reading always takes a nosedive in December. There’s just so much going on.

It was fun getting dressed up and seeing everyone at the party, but it was also wonderful to get back home at the end of the night. LOL

  2. We went to see family last week, so that was six hours there and six hours back. We were going nonstop while we were there, and felt like we needed a vacation once we were home. We're also in the middle of a move, so I feel like my life is constantly in turmoil! When I can't find a kid, I start looking in empty or half-filled boxes. It's insanity. I haven't had any time to read really, and I'm starting to get behind!

I love that you had someone come over and do your makeup! It's fun to get really glamorous every once in awhile. Congrats on your husband's nomination, too. That's awesome! I hope you were able to stay home and hibernate after your errand! Everyone needs a break every once in awhile.

    1. I'm really loving the font you used for Currently Reading! Is it a Google font, or did you have to make your Currently Reading an image so you could use it? I've done that a few times! Fell in love with a font and couldn't get it to show up on my blog unless I made it a picture. :)

    2. Wow, that’s a lot of travel time and a lot of activity. You definitely needed some recovery time! And the move on top of that... I’d be pulling my hair out, Lindsi! When is the move, by the way?

Thankfully Sunday was much less hectic than Saturday. I ran out (in the torrential rain) to do the grocery shopping and then I was home for the rest of the day. Heaven!

Well thanks! I do that Currently Reading graphic using Fotor. I don’t know if the font is one of theirs or if it’s available online but I believe it’s called Shellahera Script. Isn’t it pretty? :)

  3. That's kind of an honor to be nominated. Sorry you didn't win the car, but at least there was BBQ, right? I love that you go all out for an event. That's kind of fun getting your make up done by a pro. Pictures?

    1. Definitely an honor to be nominated. But it’s not like we needed the car so I hope the person that did win it truly ended it and will enjoy it. There were photographers at the party and Robert and I had a photo taken but to be honest I didn’t really like it. They were kind of rushing people through because the line was long and it shows. Boo.

  4. Hah, that random quote is very good! Yep, I feel like that regularly.
Reading has been all over the place for me this week. I've quit 3 books which is very unusual for me. Weird mood maybe.

  5. Sounds like a busy weekend!!! I've had like no time to read either. It is so crazy this time of year. Hope you have a great week!

  6. Sorry your husband didn’t win the car, but it sounds like a cool event anyway. If there’s BBQ, everybody’s a winner. I’ve always wanted to get my makeup and hair professionally done. I’d look a lot better if I wasn’t in charge of my own self. Enjoy your new book. Have a great week!

    1. “If there’s BBQ, everyone’s a winner.” LOL I had to share that comment with my husband because I knew he’d agree. :) I wish I’d been able to get my hair done as well but there just wasn’t time. The makeup was fun, though. So relaxing. And I feel the same! I’d look great if someone else was doing the hair and makeup every day! Ha!

  7. How fun you got a professional to do your makeup for the party! I had a really busy weekend, so I'm definitely behind on blog hopping, etc.

  8. Ooh sounds like a fun week! Good for your husband, sounds like a great experience! And a nice party too- yay! Ha ha the holidays are such busy times aren't they? And they fly by...

I'm really curious about that Lisa Jewell book, since I've read a few of hers now and plan on getting the new one.

Hope you have an awesome week. :)

    1. The holidays are definitely busy... too much sometimes!

The Lisa Jewell book was good just not quite what I was expecting. It’s really more about the family dynamics and relationships that a full-on mystery. I’d still recommend it, though.

  10. I am happy to hear that your husband was nominated. What a nice thing. Hopefully you did get to curl up and enjoy some quiet time. I did over the weekend and it was nice.

    1. Yes, it was really kind of his friend to nominate him like that. I did find some quiet time on Sunday... and it was fabulous. :)

  11. "socialized until I hit my peopling limit" 😂 This will be me this week! I have 3 back to back social events and I'm almost at my limit of people before I even get to the first!

The car competition is a lovely thing to do and well done to your husband for getting so far!

    1. Oh my, three events back to back? Ugh, that’s more than I could handle. Good luck! Hope it’s actually fun and not too overwhelming.

  12. Aww! I love that you treated yourself and had your makeup done! I have my work holiday party on Friday... I'm planning to go until I hit my people limit as well :)

  13. That's so cool that you hired a makeup artist for your event. I've always wanted to do that. Our holiday work party is always scheduled right after work so we all just go in what we wore to work. I'd much rather glam it up though.

    1. Definitely a once in a blue moon kind of thing, but it’s fun to sit back and be pampered. :) My husband’s office party is like that - right after work, no spouses invited, and everyone just wears what they wore to work. Not quite as festive!

  14. That competition sounds like fun. Sad your husband didn't win but you made me smile with the "hero" part :) I hope you're well. I'm finally settled in the new place and hopefully can relax now.

    1. Oh, he's definitely my hero. :) Not just for his service to our country, but just for the kind of man he is. ♥

  15. We are having a pretty relaxed month in December. It sounds like you are having some fun events. I am enjoying being at home a lot, reading, working on things I haven't managed for awhile. I hope you find some great books this week. Anne - Books of My Heart
