The Sunday Post #175

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Was it just me or was this the longest, slowest work week in history?
  • I've said it before but it's worth saying again: I am so over summer! The calendar may say it's Fall, but Florida never seems to get that message until November. It should be another 90-degree day today. {insert long-suffering sigh}
  • Does anyone have fun plans for today? It's likely just going to be the usual Sunday fare here: grocery shopping and laundry (and maybe a nap... ).
  • And now for this week's 80's music fix: Whether it was the German version or the English version, I was a fan of Nena's 99 Luftballoons. In 1983 I had no idea what the lyrics meant, I just knew that it was super-catchy, had an awesome bass line, and the keyboard player was cute. LOL

Why I'm Weird Tag

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:

The Burning Shadow was a big hit. I loved being back in the Lux world and this second book in the Origin spin-off series was even better than the first. So much happened! Listening to Vision In Silver was a reminder of why it's one of my favorites in the series. That last scene... gets me every time. On the flipside, Misbehaving was not my favorite in the Sea Breeze series. Ugh. I always liked Jason as a secondary character in the previous books but as the main character in this one? Nope! OMG, I couldn't stand him. He acted like an ass and did/said so many things that got me all ragey. Fingers crossed that he doesn't appear much in future books.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

I just started Fireworks yesterday but I'm already loving being back in the True North world. Fix Her Up is a lot of fun. Georgie is so likable! The jury is still out on Travis (can't decide about him yet) but I'm enjoying it.

KINDLE BOOKS:
I'm still bummed that I can no longer get Team Player 1, but happy that I snagged this one. I'm super excited for Kennedy Ryan's story that takes place in the Hoops world.

One of the many reasons The Husband and I are such a perfect match.
He is the extrovert to my introvert. :)

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. 99 Red Balloons was the jam, but the lyrics are not the same for the English and German versions. Still, very catchy. Goldfinger did an excellent cover of that song back in the day. Travis gets better. Give him time to lick his wounds.

    1. Well now I have to look up lyrics for both versions and compare. And look up that cover version.

And Travis has grown on me but I still don't totally love him like I wanted to. Can't figure out what it is. But I sure love Georgie! :)

I was supposed to go to the rainforest today but the day woke up with so much rain that it's not safe to go 😭

  3. The heat is sticking around here in Texas too :/ It was better this week, for sure - some overcast days that made the heat less brutal - but we're still in the 90s despite the supposed start of fall. LOL I love the introvert cartoon, could not be more accurate! Have a great week :)

  4. I had a short week and it still felt long! I think we're going to have one more 90-degree day this week and then hopefully it should start cooling down after that.

    1. It's still hovering right around 90 all week here. And it's snowing in the northwest. Wish they could send a clod blast down my way! :)

  5. This week felt very long for me as well! I thought it was Thursday and turned out it was only Tuesday. And oh my goodness, I am SO with you on this stupid weather. I just want fall-like weather or something cooler than these 90 degree temps! -_-
You reading the Others series makes me want to re-read it! I love those books so much! I hope you enjoy your new books and have a good week ahead! :)

    1. Thinking it's Thursday on Tuesday... ugh, that's a bad feeling.
You should reread The Others series! This is my 3rd (4th?) reread of the series and I enjoy revisiting those characters so much!

  6. I hope you get a cooldown soon! I'd be over those hot temps too! By this time of year I'm usually ready for cooler weather.

99 Luftballons is the bomb! Oh my gosh thanks for sharing it!

That introvert/ extrovert thing made me laugh too- so true!

  7. We don't get cold weather here either for quite some time, but I can feel it coming. I'd love to keep October weather forever. Just when the edge has been taken off... :)

  8. I'm over summer too. It's finally starting to feel a little like fall here and I'm all for it. Oh wow, 99 Luftballons is a stroll down memory lane. I didn't really know what it meant when it first came out but was still fascinated by it.

  10. I'm with you. It's 90s here again in NC and why can't we just stay in the 80s or even upper 70s. UGH. I'm hoping we both get a cool down soon. You got some GREAT books. I enjoyed Fix Her Up, and I love the Others series. I don't know about having a faster week but I hope things go well and are more interesting. I love hanging around the house and doing laundry, cooking, reading etc. Enjoy your day! Happy reading!

  12. You are not alone in thinking this was a ridiculously long work week, it took forever! And our temperatures have already turned cold, not just cooler, so I wouldn't mind some of your heat right now!
I'm excited for Burning Shadow! I enjoyed the first book, but hearing this one is even better makes me want to check it out right now {But I have a bunch of other books already checked out I need to finish first}.

    1. Can we switch temps for a few days, pretty please?:) So crazy to think it's actually cold there when I'm still sweltering!

The Burning Shadow was so good and I really did love it even more that The Darkest Star.

  13. I'm really interested to hear what your final verdict will be on Fix Her Up. I heard okay things about the book, but no one seems to be that impressed by the hero, and apparently neither are you so far. :( I'm obviously excited for The Burning Shadow, and I really need to start The Others series. Hope your next week is great! :)

    1. Funny you mention the hero in Fix Her Up, Veronika. I have warmed to him but I'm still not loving him like I wanted to. I can't figure out what it is. Too alpha, maybe? I can't pinpoint it. But I really am enjoying it overall! I hope to finish it tonight.

  14. Your Sunday plans sound like mine... Laundry and shopping. I also did a load of batch cooking and went to a garden centre to buy rhubarb plants and berry bushes for the husband to plant in the garden. Starting next years crops already, lol.

  15. I don't think I ever knew the lyrics to 99 Red Balloons (I really only remember the German version). I just went and looked them up and was so surprised! (And since Sam mentioned that the lyrics aren't the same in English and German, I searched for translated German lyrics too.)

  17. I love the Others series on Audio. We are feeling fall temps, and summer temps and both in one day temps. Ugh. I miss Florida. Wanna trade? Keep in mind in February we sometimes close school because the temps are below -22. I liked Nena's 99 Luftballoons too and agree it was catchy.

    1. Um, yes actually I do want to trade. LOL Well, at least I did until I saw that -22. That's kind of... inconceivable. I might better stay in Florida. :)

  20. I loved (& still do!) that song.

I still have my Floridian blood in me and I'm freezing right now. I was getting the hang of fall and the 60's then it dropped about 20 degrees over night lol I was not prepared.

FL is staying hotter longer lately and that sucks. Even last winter was too warm.

  21. Ohhhhh I haven't heard that song in YEARS! I was a toddler when it was first released but have older sisters who would bop along to it. We're heading into summer soon and I'm so not prepared. I don't think I can survive another of 113 degree plus days for three months with hardly any rain, if any. I wish it was winter all year round. I hope the weather starts cooling down there soon Tanya.

    1. Yikes, that's some crazy heat, Kelly! I guess I should be thankful that it doesn't get *that* hot where I am. And we do tend to have occasional rain. I'll vote for year-round winter! :)

  23. Awwww, I lvoe Nena. And you should send that summer my way, I had to pop the heating on about a month ago. Not many times, but it did occasionally dip below 65F inside, and I prefer it to be above...I hope you're well!
