The Sunday Post #185

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • This whole week I've been feeling like I was coming down with something. Run down, zero energy, sometimes running a low-grade fever... but nothing has materialized. If this is as bad as it gets then I can just soldier on. But I'm constantly on alert for new/worse symptoms: Oh no, did my fever just spike? Ack, does my throat feel a little sore? LOL With this being my busiest time of the year at the office, plus the holidays, there is no time to be sick!
  • Did anyone score any big Cyber Monday deals? I hibernated at home on Black Friday (the norm) but I did do a little shopping on Monday. Online Christmas shopping saves my sanity. :)
  • I know a lot of you, like me, read and loved Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale. Have you seen the latest casting news? Real-life sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning will play sisters Isabelle and Vianne. My first thought is that they seem too young but I bet if I went back and checked the book they're not that far off from the characters. What do you think?
  • For all you Hallmark movie fans, did you know there is a Hallmark Channel Monopoly? If you know someone who is hooked on those movies, wouldn't that be a fun Christmas gift? :)
  • And now for this week's 80's music fix: I decided to stick with the holiday/Christmas theme all month because why not? Here's an oldie from Sir Elton.

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:

Him (Him #1) - Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy
Cowboy Christmas Redemption - Maisey Yates *DNF*

I finished my audio re-read of Him (I've lost count of how many times I've read it) and it's still just as perfect. I immediately launched right into the follow-up, Us.

Last night I decided to give up on Cowboy Christmas Redemption. After a solid week I was only 50 pages in and realized that I just didn't care about the characters. I also think maybe Yates isn't for me. The sentence structure often seemed clunky and I'd find myself re-reading sentences to make sure I was understanding. And then wondering why it had been worded in such an awkward, confusing way.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

Us (Him #2) - Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Right now the only thing I have going is my audio re-read of Us. I might browse my shelves this afternoon to see if anything appeals to me.

KINDLE BOOKS:

The Candle Palace - Devney Perry
Tinsel - Devney Perry

I'm excited for Deck and Avery's story in Hoops Holiday, but what really has me jazzed are the bonus stories for Iris + August and Banner + Jared. And two more titles from Devney Perry. I'm determined to (finally) read something by her!

AUDIO BOOKS:

The Christmas Pact - Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Oh gosh, I hope you don't come down with anything. Being sick is bad enough but it's definitely no good at this time of year. I'm also seriously eyeing that Hallmark Monopoly, lol! I love Elton John's Christmas song too, but then again, I think I love every song he's ever done. What a legend!

  2. That Hallmark Monopoly looks awesome! Monopoly always reminds me of Christmas days, when we had the time to play games like that.

I hope you're feeling better soon and can celebrate the holidays while feeling fit!

  3. I hope you are feeling better quickly. It can be hard to get through the week when you are feeling great. I did some black Friday shopping AND picked up more deals on Monday. Sorry you had a dnf this week but at least you had Jamie and Wes :) Have a great week!

  4. I've been having a low grade sore throat most days but then it clears up. The flu is going around where my husband works so I'm paranoid that this is the real one! lol

I've been text watching the Hallmark movies with a friend and that's been fun.

  5. oh no! I hope you don't get really sick - this is not the time of year for it! The hallmark monopoly looks fun - I love the hallmark channel and enjoy the xmas movies every year!

  6. I go in cycles of tired and high energy. When I have high energy I do too much and stay up too late and then that puts me into a tired period. I need to exercise more self-discipline, so I sleep regular hours. I barely notice the time when I'm reading a great book though. (or even if I'm finishing up with dishes or laundry or something at the end of the day) I never get sick but I do get a headache now and then. Or if I get the start of a sore throat I take a Zicam and that seems to stop it.

I did NO physical shopping, only online over Black Friday/Cyber Monday. It worked well for me.

I hope you get some extra rest, drink lots of fluids and feel much better soon! Happy reading!

  7. Tanya I think what you felt was your body fighting against a virus and o far having the upper hand! That's also how I feel from time to time! And I used Cyber Monday deals to buy a noise cancelling headset by Sony!!! Have a better week!

  8. HANG ON, WAIT, WHAT?? A HALLMARK CHANNEL MONOPOLOY GAME? I'm freaking out in the best way possible and definitely making grabby hands at it. Like, do I need it? No. YES??? MAYBE??? Honestly, side note, I still think Dakota Fanning is a little nugget and is forever a kid in my eyes so it always trips me out when I remember that she, and her baby-sister, aren't kids anymore? It's so weird. I can never wrap my head around it, even though I like them both and know better! That being said, I hope you get to feeling better! It sounds like your body is doing what mine did in October--it caught a hold of some illness/flu and it's trying to fight it so you're in this half-sick limbo. Fingers crossed this week sees you well!

  9. I am not a Monopoly fan, but a Hallmark version - that's fantastic! You know, as soon as I feel anything working on me, I start doing my Flonase and popping Zicam. I swear it has kept the yucks away from me. Hope you feel better quickly.

  10. Hah, love the tired meme. That's definitely me...especially lately. I hope you don't get any more sick than you are! My sister's had that kind of sickness in the last week too - we're just hoping it doesn't get worse!!

  11. Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling all that well! I hope it doesn't get worse! ;)
I read Cowboy Christmas Redemption too, and although I love Maisey Yates, this also wasn't my favorite book. The characters just didn't work as much as I'd hope.
Have a great week and happy reading!

    1. Thanks Maureen! Hopefully my body is fighting off whatever it is and this is as bad as it's going to get. That's what I'm hoping for anyway. :) Interesting that Cowboy Christmas Redemption wasn't a favorite for you, either.

  12. Oh no! I hope you're not getting sick! I've developed a bit of a cough and random sore throats, but I've been chalking it up to the foggy weather and talking so much at work. I hope you can keep whatever it is at bay until you have time to rest!

And I love your random! It sums up my life so accurately right now!

    1. Me too, Michelle! The fact that nothing has really progressed and I don't really *feel* sick is encouraging. Maybe I'm fighting off whatever this is. Fingers crossed!

  13. I just heard this song on the radio today. So fun. I am always in awe of anyone who can play an instrument and do something else at the same time--piano and sing, guitar and dance, whatever.

    1. Same here, Wendy! Actually, I'm in awe of anyone who can play an instrument, period. But two things at a time... genius! :)

  14. I don't really watch Hallmark movies but I have to say- a Hallmark movie Monopoly IS kinda cool. I've seen some fun Monopoly theme versions over the years. :)

I didn't do a lot for Cyber Monday but I am a new convert to online shopping, and now I love it haha! Forget the stores!!!!

  15. Oh no! I hope you feel better! I don't remember if I got any Cyber Monday deals. Haha! I know I did a lot of shopping... Enjoy your new reads! I can't wait to see what you think of The Queen of Nothing.

Wishing you a great reading week

  17. I also feel like I've had a low-grade cold for the last couple weeks! Now it's a sore throat which I hope doesn't get any worse!

I saw The Nightingale casting and immediately had the same thoughts as you - they seem too young, especially Elle! But they're both great actors, I'm sure they'll do the parts justice.

    1. I hope you kicked that cold before Christmas, Angela!
It'll be really interesting to see how The Nightingale movie develops.

  20. I was sick two weeks ago, and I hope that was it! I hope you are feeling better. I, also, have lost track of how many times I've read HIM. I wasn't the biggest fan of US, but man. HIM always hits me in the feels.

    Thanks for sharing! :)

  21. I do nearly all my Christmas shopping (heck, nearly all my shopping) online these days. I can't handle going out into the craziness!!

Sorry you've been dragging---I know that feeling you're talking about where you think you MIGHT be getting sick and you're constantly waiting. Ugh!

  22. I'm a total online shopper this time of year! If I can't be in the store super early I won't go. I try not to set foot in any physical store until well after New Years.

I just came down with another cold virus and I feel like crap! My grandson now attends preschool and I feel like it's a repeat of when my kids first went to school and we caught every virus out there. I hope your sickness doesn't turn into anything full blown.

Oh, sorry to hear about Maisey Yates! It happens, and not every author is for every reader. Hope you love your next book, Tanya!

  23. oh boo I hope you are not getting sick! I'm sure nows not really the best time for it either.
I prefer my shopping done as well and I generally avoid black fridays. I still have a bit to do, but I like how it saves sanity (:

  26. I do enjoy Stepping into Christmas! Nice festive jingle...
I know I'm behind on the visits again but I hope you managed to fight off the lurgy attack without it properly materialising! It's the worst time of year to fall ill.
