Top Ten Tuesday: Hurry Up and Wait | Books I was Excited For, But Still Haven't Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This Week's Top Ten Tuesday Topic:
Books I Was Excited For... But Still Haven't Read

When it comes to attributes from the Bookworm Hall of Shame, this is probably my #1 offense. I have a long history of eagerly awaiting a new release, getting excited for the day it goes live and then... nothing. Maybe I pre-ordered it, maybe I ran out on release day and bought a copy, or maybe I just got hyped up by the author's social media posts counting down the days, but chances are if you checked with me weeks (or months *cringe*) later, that book is still unread.

As for the why: Partly it's the 'too many books too little time' thing. It's cliché but it's true. And partly it's my own personal quirk of waiting to read books I am truly excited to read. The ones that I am sure I will love. Call it delayed gratification, or prolonging the anticipation, but I do it all the time.

So here are some of the books that I eagerly anticipated, but still have not read.😏

Have you read any of these books?

  1. My friend just gave me her copy of The Great Alone. She is getting ready to move to Italy, and she can't take anything but two suitcases with her. The book is unread. I've added it to my unread stack, no, pile, no, mountain.

  4. Haha, I often put off books I'm excited about, but for a different reason - I'm worried that it won't be as good as I've built up in my head! Or I'm saving it for a special occasion, LOL. The Great Alone was not one that called to me, but I do want to read The Women at some point!

    1. Angela - I'm laughing at "saving it for a special occasion." What would that special occasion be, I wonder? LOL

  5. I remember enjoying the first ACOTAR book way back when it first came out, but I never got around to continue the series, and I've just completely lost any interest I previously had with SJM before. 😅

    1. Aimee - I really loved the first three books in the ACOTAR series, but I haven't been jazzed for ACOSF. A whole book of Nesta as the main character does not entice me. lol

  6. You're definitely not alone with this being your #1 offence cos same. Welp 😂 I still have ACOSAF on my TBR too and I have no idea how much longer it'll languish on there but it might be a while, haha. I hope you enjoy these whenever you get to them!

    1. Dini - So I'm not alone with ACOSF! We'll get to it eventually, right? :)

  7. Ooh The Right Move is one of my favorite reads! I'd definitely recommend that one :) I also loved A Court of Silver Flames and Ten Things That Never Happened. Hope you'll enjoy all of these whenever you get the chance to read them!

    1. Lindsey - I tried the audio for The Right Move and didn't love it so I'm going to nab that one for my Kindle.

  9. This happens to all of us. I don't know what it is about purchasing a book that suddenly makes me not want to read it as much as I did before I got it.

  12. Hurry Up and Wait <-- perfectly describes me as well when it comes to books I purchase. I have only seen raves for the Great Alone. I tried the audio and it was too slow. I think I would need to read that one.

    1. Sam - Some books just don't work on audio for me. I definitely want to read The Great Alone rather than listen.

  13. I don't know if it's my #1 offense, but I'm definitely bad about this. It's like as soon as I acquire a book and the pressure to read it quickly is off, I completely forget the book even exists! Ha ha.

I've read two of these, both of which I loved: THE GREAT ALONE and A GIRL CALLED SAMSON. I hope you love them and all the others on your list when you get to them.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  14. We have a few of these in common! I think I have an ARC of The Great Alone, bought Samson almost as soon as it came out, and ditto In the Likely Event. Whoops? I feel you with the too little time- it is just too TRUE!

    1. Shannon - Why will no one just pay us to stay and home and read books?? :)

  15. So many books, so little time is a true thing. I have In the Likely Event, too. I think I got it as a Prime First Reads and then never got around to reading it. It's partly because I think it's really angsty and I have to gear up for those.

    1. Rachel - It really is! Yarros can definitely bring on the angst but since that's what I usually go for, I'm all in. lol

  18. I'm trying a new system where I have to read a certain number of books off my shelves before I can go bookshopping - we will see how that works! I hope you get to some of these soon and they live up to expectations!

    1. Katherine - What a great system you have going there. Definitely an incentive to read what you have.
