May Wrap Up

WHAT HAPPENED IN MAY
  • On the 1st of May The Husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. He's better than any book boyfriend.
  • Watched the Game of Thrones finale (like a zillion other people) and thought it was... meh. I wished for better/different/more.
  • Celebrated Mother's Day with my mom. Tried to go someplace special for dinner but everyplace I called had 2 hour waits. Ended up at Longhorn.
  • Had some awesome shopping excursions at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. If you do not have these stores, I am sad for you.
  • Had a hefty Book Outlet haul and now I want to read All The Books.
  • Obsessively watched the Stanley Cup play-offs. I'm not a St. Louis Blues fan, particularly. I just want someone to beat the Bruins. *insert evil laughter*
WHAT I READ IN MAY

I read/listened to eight books in May and had TWO 5-star reads! Y'all know I give out 5 stars so sparingly that it's like they're made of rainbow-sprinkled unicorn dust. So having two within one month is kind of epic.

Intercepted* by Alexa Martin | 4.25/5 stars
Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye | 3.5/5 stars
Long Shot (Hoops #1)* by Kennedy Ryan | 5/5 stars
Block Shot (Hoops #2)* by Kennedy Ryan | 4.25/5 stars
Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner | 5/5 stars
* denotes audiobook

FORMATS
Total Read: 8
1 physical book
4 e-books
3 audio books
4 ARCs

TOP OF THE HEAP
Long Shot, Mrs. Everything

THE BOTTOM OF THE HEAP
Hard As It Gets
Not a bad book by any means, but I'm also not rushing to continue the series.

THE ONE THAT TOOK ME BY SURPRISE
Intercepted
I figured this one would be a good time but I had no idea how much I would enjoy it.

THE ONE THAT WAS LIKE VISITING OLD FRIENDS
Storm and Fury
Every scene with Roth or Cayman or Bambi had me practically cheering.

WHAT HAPPENED ON THE BLOG
I had 15 blog posts in April which included 6 reviews. Fewer posts that I would like but I'm giving myself a gold star for the review posts. Go me. I shared my favorite book-to-movie adaptations as well as my favorite books from each of the last 10 years

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING

I'm not very far into Red, White & Royal Blue yet (maybe 60 pages) but I'm already enjoying it so much. Alex is a riot with his snarky comebacks and I'm wanting to find out what's behind Henry's cool exterior. I'm at about the 80% mark in Hook Shot and, just like with the previous books in the series, am completely invested. I had to stop listening this morning because I got so worried about something that was happening. Ha!

  2. Happy anniversary! I felt the same way about the GoT finale. So far, I’ve missed every Blues/Bruins game because I’ve been working nights, and I forget to record them. I hope you’re having a good June!

  3. Congratz on the 20 years together! Nowadays it's actually something, with all the divorces going on... I see a lot of that as a teacher.

I think I'm the only person on earth that liked the Game of Thrones finale, LOL.

    Have a great June!

    1. Thanks Esther! It's been a wonderful 20 years... actually closer to 28 since we were together for so long before we married. :)

That's awesome that you were happy with the GoT finale!!

  4. You had a great reading month!! I have grazed over Mrs. Everything, because I read that author when I was in high school and her older books were okay. But not I really need to check this book out! And as you know I'm working my way through the Hoops series! <3 I also just bought Intercepted from Book Outlet this week! I couldn't believe it was on there. I wasn't planning on buying anything but when I saw that book on there I had to buy it ASAP!

    1. Yeah, I remember reading a few by Weiner way back (early 2000's probably) and enjoyed them but nothing that blew me away. Then I read Who Do You Love a year or two ago and loved it. Enjoying that one so recently made me take notice of Mrs. Everything and I'm so glad I did! I hope Kennedy Ryan isn't done with the Hoops series because I want more! :) I loved all three books. And Intercepted was so, so good! I listened on audio and the narration was perfection.

  5. Longhorn is great, but I'm sorry you couldn't get in anywhere else for Mother's Day. I'm almost finished with Red, White, and Royal Blue and it's amazing. I hope you love it.

    1. You have my sympathies, Karen. LOL Maybe you just haven't *found* the stores yet... ?

I haven't been reading much at all the past week so I'm at about the halfway point in RW&RB. Loving these two guys! :)

  7. Happy 20th, Tanya! I do hate going out for Mother's Day because of all the crowds! Better to try and celebrate on another day. I agree, Marshall's & TJ Maxx are awesome! Just got a cute pair of wedges at TJ Maxx last week.

I've heard great things about Red, White & Royal Blue. Enjoy! I want to check out Mrs. Everything. Sounds like you had a wonderful May! :)

  8. What a milestone, Tanya- happy anniversary! <3 I haven't watched a single GoT episode in my life, but I've seen enough online to know that what they did to Dany's character wasn't particularly loved by most. Pity to hear it didn't work out for you too! I'm looking forward to what you think about Red, White and Royal Blue. So many I know seem to have loved it but I'm so skeptical somehow :D

    1. It's how I am totally NOT a TV watcher (like, I can go a week without ever turning on the TV and don't even care) but I really got into GoT. I started watching it with my husband several years ago and got hooked! :) I'm still reading Red, White & Royal Blue... just haven't made much time for reading this past week. But I'm very much enjoying it!

  9. You're adorable! I loved the line about your hubs *heart-eyes* I enjoyed RW&RB. My chief complaint was that I wanted more of the romance, but still greatly enjoyed the book. You have now become part of the Kennedy Ryan emotional roller coaster team. Glad you enjoyed Long Shot. I am liking the series a lot and it seems as though Decker may be getting a book, unless I am reading those hints in Hook Shot wrong.

    1. LOL Well, thanks. :) He’s my sweetie.💕 I’m loving RW&RB. I’ve seen some people complain that there was “too much politics” but considering who Alex is and the role he plays in his mother’s campaign, I’d be surprised if politics *weren’t* discussed! I’d love to see a book for Decker. And now I have to read the bonus epilogues!

  12. Aw! Better than a book boyfriend? Very high praise indeed! 😍

I've only read one Kennedy Ryan but I definitely need to read more and I also need to check out Mrs Everything (I meant to do that after your last weekly post...)

  13. Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! I'm glad to see Mrs. Everything was a winner for you too. Can't wait to read your review for it, and of course for Red, White and Royal Blue. That one still just makes me smile every time I think about it.

    1. I recommended Mrs. Everything to my husband and he’s reading it now. :) Doubtful that he’ll love it as much as I did but I appreciate that he was willing to give it a try. I just finished my review and plan on posting it tomorrow. Just in time for release day. Whew! I’m about 40% through RW&RB and loving it so much. :)
