WWW Wednesday #66 | October 23, 2019

WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
Just answer three questions and share what you're reading.

How is it we're entering the last week of October?! This month is flying by. On the plus side, we're getting exactly one day of fall weather here. It dropped into the 50's last night (barely, but it counts) and today's high is a chilly 75 degrees. LOL Go ahead and laugh but I'm just thrilled that it's not 90. :)

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
All We Ever Wanted - Emily Giffin
I knew Cilka's Journey wouldn't be an easy read but oh my goodness... this is a tough one. Cilka survived almost three years at Auschwitz only to be send to a prison/work camp in Siberia. Knowing that there was a real Cilka and that this is based on a true story only makes it more heart wrenching.

It's still fairly early on in All We Ever Wanted (I'm about 20% in) but I'm already invested in this story of privilege and entitlement, right and wrong, responsibility and blame.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
Twisted was a lot of fun and surprisingly angsty and emotional. Chase even managed to use my least favorite trope (miscommunication) and make it work. Twice in a Blue Moon was... *look around at a loss for words* It wasn't my favorite by CLo but it wasn't my least favorite, either. I was semi-slumpy so some of it was me, but it was partly the book. Overall I felt like not a lot happened. On the flipside, Well Met was an absolute delight. I loved Emily and Simon (along with Emma and Captain Blackthorne) and the audio version was perfection.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

I have a feeling I'm going to need something on the lighter side after I finish Cilka's Journey and hopefully The Bromance Book Club will be just what I need to lighten my mood. Can't wait to dive into this one!

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

  2. I think you could probably say it was all Twice in a Blue Moon. It actually was my least favorite CL book. Good thing you had Twisted and Well Met to read, too. You're going to love The Bromance Book Club! Happy reading!

    1. It seems a lot of people were disappointed in TIABM because it wasn't a rom-com. I knew going in it wasn't a rom-com so that wasn't it. It just felt rather lackluster to me. Sorry it wasn't a hit for you, either. But I'm excited for The Bromance Book Club!

  3. You remind me that I need to read the Tattooist of Auschwitz Tanya!

    1. There was an early reference to who I think was the tattooist from the first book so I might eventually go back and read that one, too.

  4. I had the same thoughts on Twice in a Blue Moon. It wasn't my favorite but it wasn't my least favorite either. I enjoyed The Bromance Book Club so I hope it works for you too.

Right now, I'm reading Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally because I couldn't wait until closer to the release date to dig into my eARC. I love Kenneally's writing.

  7. I've heard really good things about All We Ever Wanted! I hope you love it. I'm currently reading Twice in a Blue Moon, but still in the BEFORE part of the book. I'm enjoying it so far, but I can see how it might feel slumpy. I'm definitely not devouring it like I usually do with a CLO book.

I've heard amazing things about Well Met and cannot wait to read it for myself!

  9. I just got Twice in a Blue Moon but I'm surprisingly not in the mood to read it yet even though I was anticipating this the moment it was announced. But I'd still like to get into it some time this year, also The Bromance Book Club!

    1. I get it. I'm a 100% mood reader and never know what I'm going to feel like reading next. No point in starting a book if you're not really ready for it! :)

  10. It is supposed to get in the 40's tonight. I enjoy cooler temps but I am not quite ready to break out coats. Cilka's Journey really sounds like a heart wrenching story. I am really considering grabbing The Bromance Book Club. I have so many books to read and I seem to be reading very slowly lately. I am hoping I can speed things up a bit.

    1. 40's... wow! It'll be quite a while before we see that here. But I'm ready! :) Cilka's Journey is a tough read. It's slow-going - not because it isn't good, but because I can only read so much at one time before needing to set it aside. Hopefully we will both love The Bromance Book Club!

  11. I'm glad you enjoyed Well Met! That's one I've seen a lot of great things about. I do want to read Twice in a Blue Moon too!

    1. Twice in a Blue Moon fell into the good-not-great category for me. I liked it but I didn't love it. Well Met was a gem, though. I smiled almost all the way through. :)

  12. I was so happy we dipped into the 70s last week, and then not so happy that we were back at 97 degrees this week, so I hear you! It's been unseasonably warm here, which felt really strange when it was 90 and almost dark. We're cooling down, though, thank goodness.

I really enjoyed Well Met, so I'm happy you did too! Brandie wasn't thrilled with Twice in a Blue Moon either, and to be honest when I read the description I was hesitant so I'm happy I didn't push that button and request. I'm super excited for The Bromance Book Club! I hope we both love it, Tanya. :)

    1. Back up to 97... ugh. I am so over the summer weather this year! We both need a blast of cooler temps. :)

Well Met was absolutely charming and I really loved it. Fingers crossed that we both love The Bromance Book Club!

  13. I'm so glad for fall weather too. It finally does not feel like a furnace when I step outside, so that's a plus! LOL.

I've heard good things about Bromance Book Club, hope you enjoy it. It's on my maybe pile right now. :)

    1. It was a long, hot summer, wasn't it? And an unseasonably warm start to fall. Yuck. I'm really excited for The Bromance Book Club. I keep seeing great reviews! I hope you'll love it if you decide to try it. :)

  14. Cilka's Journey sounds so moving. We've had a long run of WWII novels in my book group, though, and it has exhausted some of us. I think you do need something light.

    1. As much as I enjoy WW II-era fiction, there comes a point where I really need to step away from it for a while and read something lighter. The stories can definitely weigh on you.
