The Sunday Post #193

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • It's been a pretty uneventful week... thank goodness. Things at the office are back to normal after all the end-of-year and holiday craziness and I'm settling into a routine with the new CEO. (My longtime boss/CEO retired in December and our former CFO took on the CEO role and moved into the executive suite with the other Board members.) We're all still adjusting, I think.
  • Yesterday we made a run to Trader Joe's and I once again bemoaned the fact that we don't have one closer. In a city this size (large, with almost a million residents) there are only two locations and neither one is particularly close to me. But I love it so it's worth the trip. Any other Trader Joe's lovers? :)
  • The January Of Books giveaway ended on Friday so congratulations to Sandra for winning the giveaway. She's already chosen her book and should have it soon. Thanks to all who entered!
  • I'm finally remembering to share photos of the sofa table The Husband made us. He saw a similar one online and thought it would be perfect for us to use for charging all our devices (two iPhones, two iPads, one Kindle), thereby getting everything off the dresser in the bedroom or the bar in the kitchen. I'm so proud of him for making it himself and it looks great! My only contribution was choosing the trim on the ends. LOL (Btw, pic was taken before sofa was moved back into place. This isn't how we left it. Haha.)

  • Since it's Super Bowl Sunday, here's a list of Book Bub's all-time best football romances. I love seeing Fumbled and All Played Out included!
  • This week's 80's music fix is Wishing Well from Terence Trent D'Arby. Nothing much to add about this one... it was just a good song with a great groove. :)

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:

This week was all about The Queen of Nothing. I was reading and listening every chance I got. Even though I'm not sure this one had quite the same level of tension and intrigue as the previous books, I was still 100% invested. There were still twists I didn't see coming, a couple OMG moments, and scenes between Jude and Cardan that I've been waiting two years for. Perfectly happy with the conclusion.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

In the midst of all my visits to the world of the Fae, I also dove into Birthday Girl, a book that's been on my TBR for well over a year. I'm at about the 90% mark so I'm sure I'll finish it today.

PHYSICAL BOOKS:

I received a gorgeous hardcover copy of Malice by Pintip Dunn from Entangled this week. I have no idea why because I do not receive PR packages. I can only guess they have me confused with someone else. LOL Either way, it was exciting to receive it and the book sounds super interesting.

KINDLE BOOKS:

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Settling into a new boss when you've worked with "the old boss" for so long is quite the adjustment. It doesn't matter if the new person is a known quantity, teams naturally fall back into that "storming" phase where everyone is trying to adapt before it all becomes the new normal... It's a weird transition, isn't it?

The sofa table is cool! What a handy husband! :)
I'm curious as to what Trader Joes is... A supermarket? A restaurant? A hardware store? I'll need to google.

    1. Yep, you explained it exactly, Nicci. The new CEO has been here for about 2 years as CFO but he worked upstairs and it's not like I saw him often. Working within the same spaces side by side is very different. But he seems like a good guy so I'm sure we'll all settle in.

Trader Joe's is a kind of specialty grocery store. It's not a full supermarket (it's smaller than that) and most of what they sell is under their own house brand. They have organic produce, gourmet items, fresh salads/sandwiches, great cheeses, frozen appetizers and entrees. I love it. :)

  2. Well, the trim is the best part of the table ! Your contribution was very valuable. We have two Trader Joe's not too far away, but I don't go to them. I stick to Wegman's (though I was always a Publix lover).

    1. Ah, Publix is the BEST. :) We typically grocery shop at the Commissary on base but if we don't go there we go to Publix. And there's one within a mile of my house so that's even better. I'm not familiar with Wegman's.

  3. That table came out amazing! What a great idea. We just had a new Trader Joe's open near us. I've only been there once - it seemed good for little gift, snack-y items, but I wasn't crazy about the lack of choices.

    1. Thanks Angela. I'm so happy with it. :)

I love the convenience options at Trader Joe's. I stock up on heat-and-eat entrees that are perfect for me and the husband during the week when I have less time to cook.

  4. That table looks great! I love it when DIY projects turn out well. I don't have a Trader Joe's close to me either, which is a bummer because I've always wanted to go to one. I think the closest one is over an hour away and not in a direction we typically go for anything else.

    1. Before Trader Joe's came to town we used to occasionally (every few months) drive down to the one in Gainesville. It was more an excuse for a day trip than a real "need" to go to Trader Joe's. :) We would take the scenic route, have lunch, shop at TJ's and head home. Those were fun outings.

  5. Wow I love the table. I'm a DIY fan too. I love Trader Joes and we count on it for some gluten-free products. We used to live just a mile or so but now it's about 12 miles away. There are only 3 stores in this metro area, I think. I've been to them all. Luckily, it's across the street from my daughter's Monday afternoon medical appointment so I can go then. A new Aldi is next to it, so I hit those as needed every Monday.

Book mail is so exciting! I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new reads!

    1. How awesome that you have a location that's so convenient for you. Aldi just opened here last year and there's one that's practically within walking distance of the house. I've only gone in once and didn't even buy anything.

  6. I love Trader Joe's too, and it's not close to me either. It's like a 10-15 minute drive from my house so I don't get out there as much as I'd like to.

I wanted to read Birthday Girl, I might've even bought it and then just never got to it, lol. I'd have to check. Hope it's good. Happy to hear the Holly Black series ended nicely. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Tanya! :)

    1. Same here, Rachel. If they were closer I'd be there a lot more often. I love the convenience options. So many heat and eat entrees that are perfect for me and the husband during the week.

  8. Such a great week!! I've started birthday girl before but wasn't in the mood for it so I put it back down. I really want to read it soon though! Hope you love it!

  9. OOh I love the sofa table. Such a great idea, and that's so awesome your husband made it. I hope that the work change adjustments go well. It's never fun when someone you really know and like leaves and is replaced by someone new. Hopefully they'll be a great CEO though!

  10. I wish we had a Trader Joe's, I'd probably be there all the time looking for excuses to buy things. :) Cool sofa table, BTW. Looks nice!

Terence Trent D'arby! Wow good one!!

  11. I love Trader Joe's! I'm spoiled and have a few around me to choose from, too! lol And yay for finishing Queen of Nothing - I really enjoyed it, even though is was kinda of anticlimactic. Have a great week!

    1. How nice to have TJ's so close to you! Consider me jealous. :)
TQoN was a tad anticlimactic after the previous two books, but I still loved it.

  12. How was Birthday Girl? It's on my TBR. And I love getting unexpected books in the mail! They don't come often, but when they do I'm always questioning how the people even found me. LOL!

    1. I really liked Birthday Girl. Solid 4 star read. I think I had built it up because I'd been looking forward to it for so long and I was convinced it would be 5 stars. It wasn't quite there but still really good. I'll definitely read more from Penelope Douglas.

  13. Glad to hear everything is settling back into normal at work. I love that table. We have one we bought from Ikea behind our couch but it holds our record player and records. Trader Joes is awesome but we don't have one close to us either! Which sucks. I'll totally take your copy of Malice if you don't want it! Kidding! I'm sooo excited for that one and I love the cover. I haven't read any of these though.
    Have a good week!

Wow a whole lot of info! Fajitas are amazing. I love your new dresser. I didn't know you could get new lids when they broke, I just throw them away. Audio books save my life I swear. I read 31 books in January (My goal is one a day!) So that's awesome. The Good Neighbor looks awesome.

    Have a good day!

    2. Oh, IKEA... so many awesome finds there. I had a light fixture from there in the foyer of our old house and loved it. But it was a pain putting it together, like with anything from IKEA. LOL

  14. We had finally gotten a Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Gainesville when I lived in Fl but now I'm back to a long drive to find one lol

At this point, I would take a regular grocery store! we have a tiny local market downtown with the basics and that's it.

    1. I know there are loads of benefits of small town living, but the lack of shopping options would sure take me a lot of getting used to! LOL

  15. Malice is SO good, I am so glad you got the package because A) It's cute and you deserve such things and B) the book is REALLY awesome I loved it! Glad things are calmer at work, too. Also I am so impressed that you not only picked your winner but heard back from them so quickly! I think I picked my December one yesterday so that's where I'm at 😂

    1. You have me all excited for Malice - and it's nowhere near what I typically read! :)

LOL Don't be too impressed. It's not like I'm all uber-organized or anything but my Type A(ish) self won't let me lag on it.

  17. Wow, that table is incredible Tanya, the hubby did an incredible job. Did he construct that from scratch or was it an old table you both restored? I love furniture restoration, the hubby and I often buy old pieces and give them a new life after a little hard work and TLC.

    1. Thanks Kelly! The table is completely handmade - not a restoration. I'm so proud of him for making it! :) That's awesome that you and your husband restore pieces. I'm impressed with the work and attention to detail that goes into that.

  18. I can see how a change like that could take some adjustment. I love that table your husband made! I haven't been to Trader Joe's for a long time. I have a couple of stores that I like that are quite the drive and it is frustrating! I hope you have a great week!
