The Sunday Post #195

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Another three-day weekend. Hallelujah! *does a happy dance*
  • It was a fairly uneventful week which was good. Things at the office were on an even keel, on Thursday I had a dermatology appointment, and Friday was particularly quiet with one of the Board members out all day so it was a nice way to end the week.
  • Yesterday I was in a mood most of the day and didn't even know why. Thankfully The Husband is The Most Patient Man Alive (really, he is, you can Google it) and he finally cajoled me into getting out of the house in the afternoon and it was just what I needed. Broodiness was forgotten and the rest of the day was spent watching the Tampa Lightning win against the Flyers, and catching the last half hour of Mamma Mia - a movie that never fails to make me happy.
  • Can we talk about Robert Pattinson in the new(ish) Dior Homme ad? I guess it's been quite a while since I've seen him because oh my... the last few years have been good to him. He looks better than ever. *swoon*

  • I'm taking part in the Favorite Things Giveaway Hop and have a couple signed books up for grabs. Be sure to enter if you're interested.
  • This week's 80's music fix is Let's Go by Wang Chung. This is one of those songs that takes me back to a very specific time and place. Spring of 1987, Vilano Beach with friends, having the time of our lives. Good times. The video is pretty lame but the song is fun. :)

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:

I think I had prepared myself for total emotional devastation when starting Great and Precious Things so it actually ended up being less heart wrenching than I had anticipated. Great story, though. The Music of What Happens was sweet and funny and bittersweet. And Epic was (yes, I'm going there)... epic. More #Wesmie after almost four years had me positively giddy. My only complaint: it was too short and I wanted more. Of course, I would have said that even if it was an 800 page tome.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

Malice is sooo outside my wheelhouse but 1) Entangled was kind enough to send me a PR box with the hardcover version, and 2) I've seen several rave reviews that piqued my curiosity enough to give it a try. I'm only 60 pages in or so but so far so good.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Yay for a three-day weekend! My company doesn't give us this holiday so I'm low-key envious of everyone who does, lol. Oh my, that Wang Chung song takes me all the way back to freshman year of high school. I was a member of the color guard and we actually did a routine to that song. Just listening to it takes me back to those flag twirling days, haha.

    1. Boo for not having Monday off. Who do I need to talk to? :)
So funny the very specific memories a song can trigger!

  2. You crack me up. RP's dancing in that ad was weird, but he has aged well. I love that you want an 800 page contemporary (things you will never hear me request), but it is cool that they keep updating the fans with more Wesmie. I have seen a lot of great reviews for Dunn's books in general. I have not read them, because they are not really my thing, but how special it is to receive a PR box. I got one, once. It was amazing.

    1. Well, it would depend on the contemporary LOL but oh yeah, there are certain characters or authors I would totally want an 800 page book from. :)

I'm thinking Dunn probably isn't for me, either. I hate that I feel semi-obligated to read this one (Malice) since Entangled sent it (although unsolicited). Last night I actually started skimming instead of reading. *sigh*

  3. Hahaha I'm glad your husband convinced you to get out of the house for a bit and that it helped! And yeah, Mamma Mia is an instant smile for me.

Okay Robert Pattinson is looking good, but what was that... Dancing? Surely he can do better lol! It's been a long while since I saw him too.

Have a great week and enjoy your day off!

    1. LOL I love how so many people are commenting on R-Patz's dancing. Yeah, I don't know what that was supposed to be, either, but I still like looking at him. Ha!

  4. I'm NOT an R-Patz fan, I've never understood his appeal, but the Dior series of adverts almost have me believin'. Have you seen the elevator one? *fans oneself*

I'm glad your husband was able to coax you out the house. All hail lovely husbands who have patience! (My does too.)

I envy the three day weekend! It'll be April before we get any long weekends... But it'll be a four day weekend for Easter. :) Hope you enjoy this one.

    1. Okay, you had me looking up the elevator one. Oh yeah... *wipes up drool*
Thank goodness for patient husbands - who aren't left flummoxed by broody wives.
Nice that you have a 4 day weekend to look forward to!

  5. Yay for long weekends! They're the best, really. And the hockey game sounds fun. Go Lightning haha! Mamma Mia is such a fun movie too.

    I love wang Chung! :)

    1. Meh... I'm struggling with Malice, Samantha. I'm not totally sure why I even got the PR box because I review YA like 3X a year. Anyway, I'm trying hard not to DNF but I've started skimming. Bad sign.

    1. I'm struggling with Malice, Nicole. I really don't think it's the book at all just more the fact that it's not something I ever would have picked up on my own. I'm definitely not the best judge.

  9. Yay for the 3 day weekend and getting out and having fun. I'm so happy to just be home this weekend, and it's cold here. It's warming up the next few days, though and then rain, then freezing again. It's a cycle right now.

Have an awesome short week and enjoy your books!

  13. That sign cracked me up 😂 Also I REALLY hope you are liking Malice!! I thought it started off well, but really picked up too, and I couldn't put it down! Glad that the books you read were good, too! And YAY for three day weekends. I think that is the only reason I make it through, tbh hah.

    1. I just knew you were going to ask me about Malice. *cringe* I've gotta be honest... I've started skimming. I know, I know... *ducks from whatever you're now throwing at me* I totally think it's not the book, it's just that I'm not best reader for the book. It's not a good fit and I probably knew that going in. The genre in general is so not my thing and the MC feels sooo young. I don't know... *sigh*

  14. I feel like I've been in A MOOD for a few days now. Every little thing is driving me crazy, and I can tell I'm being grumpy about unimportant things. I think I'm finally crashing after all of the moving craziness. Now that we're mostly settled in, my brain and body are mush. It's great your husband is patient! I think mine is equally spent, so. ;)

I'm thrilled about the three-day weekend, because I cannot get used to my son's half-day schedule. It's maddening! I have to drop him off a little before lunch, and pick him up just a few hours later. It's impossible to get naps in! :(

    1. If anyone deserves a bout of moody it's you! After the moving/car accident fiasco you're due for a few days of grumpy/broody.

Those are some seriously inconvenient school hours. Chops your day in half right in the middle so you can't really get into anything before you have to stop!

  15. Hello Robert Pattinson. He looks like he's barely aged since making Twilight, just a little more scruff now and a little less hair. I'm always in a mood lately, I think it's early menopause because nothing seems to drag me out of that moody funk. I hope this week has picked you up and been kind Tanya.

  16. I imagine Pattinson has been buffing up with the Batman role. I see you picked up The Kiss Thief. Funny - I just finished commenting on my blog to one of your comments that that's my favorite Shen book that I've read. It's quite different from the other books I've read from her. I hope Malice turns out to be much better than you expect. I've seen good reviews.

I can't wait to get to the Wesmie book. I'll be interested to see how Great and Precious Things plays out. I'm reading The Last Letter right now, and it's kind of a miss for me.

  20. Oh, the new Pattinson ad, yum! I hope he does well in Batman.

I sometimes get in a funk and I have no reason for it, and getting out of the house can really help. My guy is pretty patient and loving with me too. Glad to hear we both have keepers!

Glad to hear you've been enjoying your "epic" reads, lol! :)

  22. My husband was off on Monday but I had to go to work. Not fair! Pattinson has definitely matured or something. I agree that the years have been kind to him. I almost bought Epic but know I couldn't listen to it right away so I put it off for just a bit. I hope you have a great week!
